If it sparks when you plug it in, use a surge protector. Turn it off, plug them in, then turn it on. Safer in all ways.

One should always put the plug into the device first then plug it to the wall socket, no spark and much safer this way. The other way around when you unplug, you'll never have problems this way.

@@overthetarget9401 You will have a spark either way. It's the caps inside the charger that get charged from empty to full in an instant mini explosion. It will either spark on the wheel side plug, or the wall. Plugging into the wall first is usually safer imo.
@overthetarget9401
@overthetarget9401 4 года назад
@@4nlimited3dition_4n3d Your opinion to your own but plugging it first into the device and then into the power source is by all accounts safer and better practice. A charger without load puts strain on the capacitors and dependent on the circuit of the charger it could ramp up to a higher than nominal voltage and then ramp it down as the charger is plugged it - nice power surge to the device. If the charger is already plugged into the device the voltage will ramp up gradually to the required voltage and there won't be the same type of power surge.
@4nlimited3dition_4n3d

@@overthetarget9401 Your opinion, my opinion. Sure. But with those cheap charging circuits, the spark will happen on the plug of the vehicle as well and consume it overtime, that's not good either. My V10f seems to have a properly designed charging interface, which doesn't spark no matter which way you connect it.

The Bars are pointless. Only voltage matters. Computation is quite straight forward: 8A x 100.8V ~= 800W. Give the wheel has 3200Wh capacity, 3200/800 = 4h. Now there is the slow down at about 90% so the most efficient ratio time/capacity charged is 3200*0.9/800 = 3.6 hours being roughly 3h36 minutes. The time spent charging after that is highly-inefficient.
@ElectricUnicycles
@ElectricUnicycles 4 года назад
Considering that the voltage is not available to the user by default (only in a "secret" advanced mode), bars are not truly pointless. But I get your point. That's why I provided voltage values.
@themystx2
@themystx2 4 года назад
One of my annoyances with the Sherman are with that LCD. They build the most incredible EUC to date and go lazy on the LCD. board temp and voltage should be accessible by default; those battery bars need to be more evenly spread out (each bar = 3v).
@juanjoportable
@juanjoportable 4 года назад
Yes, and also Real capacity I believe is 3108wh. Really you want to look more at something like 10% to 90%. It depends on how early the speed decrease, beeps and tiltback start at. Then for long trips you could say 2h charging at 10A will charge from 20 to 90%
@Gebeleizis.
@Gebeleizis. 2 года назад
@Philippe Chiu you're wrong in your straight forward calculations. Simply because the capacity of a li-ion battery is calculated based on the nominal voltage. So those 3200Wh (3108 precisely, as said above) is not the right number to use. The correct straightforward calculation is: 35Ah/8A=4.375h. I am sure you will understand what I mean. Cheers

Hey Marty I was just reviewing your video looking for something I didn't find... I have an 84v fast-charger leftover from my Nikola. Is this 84v charger useable on the 100v wheel? Thanks!
@ElectricUnicycles
@ElectricUnicycles 3 года назад
No. The 84-volt charger puts out "84-volts" which isn't very useful when you need 100-volts for a 100-volt wheel. Technically, you could use the 84-volt fast charger on the 100-volt wheel but you'd only charge the wheel up to ~25%. But even before you could do this you'd have to replace the 4-pin connector on the 84-volt fast charger with a 5-pin connector that's compatible with 100-volt wheels. Keep it in case you buy a KingSong or Inmotion wheel, or another Gotway

Is the act of unplugging it or stopping the charger that causes the wheel to self balance? If you use a timer to charge and the timer shuts the power off to the wheel will it begin to self balance? Or is it just the act of unplugging the cables from the wheel that starts self balancing?

Nope. I confirmed that if I just unplug the charger from the wall (but leave the charger connected to the wheel), the wheel turns on and starts balancing. So a timer would not help.

Whenever I complete a ride (unless it's only a few miles) I charge the wheel. For 5-years I've never been concerned about battery life. It's not worth spending time worrying about the batteries. The vast majority of people will not be riding the same wheel after 2-3 years and our batteries last much longer than that. In the 25+ wheels that I've owned I never experienced battery issues of any kind.

I have a question concerning the charging ports...The Veteran comes with a 5 amp charger and it has 2 ports...you recommend using two 5 amp chargers for faster charging time... When I called the distributor they offered me an 8 amp faster charger.....am I supposed to use only the 8 amp charger in one of the veterans ports? or am I supposed to use one port for 5 amps and the other 8 amps? Should I just order a 2nd 5amp charger and use both 5 amp chargers on both ports? Im confused and really do not want to burn the board or electronics in it... Thomas
@ElectricUnicycles
@ElectricUnicycles 3 года назад
Absolutely do not plug an 8-amp charger into one port. If you must use us one you'll have to get a splitter so that you can plug it into both charge ports. The max input in either charge port is 5-amps. 5-amps works for me but sometimes I'll use a 3-amp Gotway charger in addition to the stock charger so that I'm charging at 8-amps total. But that's rare for me. Per the manual, you can use two of the stock 5-amp chargers, MAX. Do not exceed 10-amps total.

Hi, did a google search about how to prolong the life of lithium ion batteries. Some of the advice include: Avoid charging to 100% capacity. Avoid high charge and discharge currents. Fast-charging affects the lifespan of lithium-ion batteries adversely because of the increase in the internal resistance of the batteries, which in turn results in heat generation. Limit the battery temperature. In the long run the longevity of a lithium battery will be better if it's slow charged. The above advice is from a brief google search. Could be opinions and so may or may not be factual. Science of batteries is quite complex and needs in depth reading and understanding. Maybe others with more technical knowledge will be able to comment. Thanks.

Lots of theories out there. I live in the real world. For the years that I've been riding, and owning over 20-wheels, I've never had a problem with batteries in my wheels by charging to a 100-percent "every time", and sometimes letting them sit at 100-percent for months. Two wheels were over 3-years old and had the same capacity as when they were new. My philosophy for EUC's is to just enjoy riding them and not waste any time trying to baby the batteries. YMMV
