Doran and Arcades, as well as that white enchantment that makes creatures hit with their toughness. Alternatively, that one creature I don't know the name of because Godzilla alternates that makes power matter for lethal damage.

Dan Riehl the problem with Arcades is it only works with Defenders, but High Alert is in close colors and works

and there are so, so, many of those across green, white and blue. Not to mention cheap synergies like Sheltering Word, or maybe Kin-Tree Invocation.

Or put it in a High Alert deck, and it's basically a 17/17 for 4... Just add in Tetsuko Umezawa to make it unblockable, have three islands out to buff it, and you can easily swing for lethal on turn 6

@@brendaneichler5244 Assault Formation and High Alert are in the deck and allow my creatures to attack with toughness. Good catch though, Arcades by himself doesn't work for this card, but the deck lends itself to it.

All I can think of is how many times this is going to get bolted, when I swap p/t. Then again, swinging for 16 damage is almost too spicy to refuse. Also I can't wait to slap crab umbra on this, just for the memes.

wow. I see only 7 viewers when it loads. that is a first! this crab looks fun. Tetsuko will be dumb with it, or any deck helping creatures deal damage with toughness instead of power. It will be exciting.

Yes, you're correct. 17 is the highest base toughness printed on a black bordered (theres the 99/99 B. F. M. in one of the Un-Sets) creature card. Marit Lage token at 20/20 only surpasses it if you count those as well.

A great addition to Arcades. No extra needed and doesn't lose toughness to swing big and knock out opponents. Running cards like Huatli, the Sun's Heart and High Alert make it relatively easy to use such a powerful Leviathan

*Noisestorm intensifies* Also, Marit Lage (the token) has 20/20, so Charix doesn't have the highest toughness overall. In terms of legal castable creatures in Commander, Charix dethrones Impervious Greatwurm back in Guilds of Ravnica, which had 16/16.

Would work well in an Arcades Deck, specifically with Assault Formation, effectively a 17/17 for 4 mana,other cards with the same effect are Belligerent Brontodon, Doran the Siege Tower, Gauntlets of Light, High Alert, Huatli the sun's heart (can also -3 her to gain 17 life with Charix out) and Treefolk Umbra

WOTC made a very smart subtle inclusion to this card... Its clear they specifically needed to make it a Crab LEVIATHAN because there is a whole suite of cards in blue that say things like "All krakens, serpents, and leviathans cant be blocked", or cards like Quest for Ula's Temple. There is this whole sub-tribe combination of kraken-serpent-leviathan and tons of cards for this "tribe"

this looks like a super fun deck to play, just swing with the crab and your opponent doesn't know if you consider them a high enough threat to use abilities to make damage with toughness and just 1shot them so suddenly you have the table just kinda doing the politics with the player your crab is going at desperately trying to not die instantly, seems like a fun and interactive time to me

Hm, a Crab Tribal/landfall/mill deck with Phenax as the commander would be pretty interesting. There's also Hedron Crab from a previous Zendikar set, which mills an opponent for 3 whenever you play a land, and Ruins Crab from this upcoming set, which is the same as Hedron Crab but mills all of your opponents instead of just one. Whelp, I guess I know what deck I'm building next!

Prowler's Helm over Hot Soup, you don't die from any damage, it costs the same to cast/equip and the downside is only walls can block it. And I don't know of many walls that also deal significant damage.

Meekstone works well with this guy. You get a huge creature when you need it, but nobody else is allowed to attack with creatures big enough to threaten it without leaving themselves wide open to a giant enemy crab thumping them.

Everyone here looking at the crab part but much more important is the other type "leviathan." That means it goes in my Arixmethes sea monster deck, along with all the other leviathans, octopi, serpents, and krakens.

I like your inclusion of Merfolk Thaumaturgist and Twisted Image. I think they're more useful than you indicated because even if you don't have +x/+x from an equipment or an effect, you simply need to activate Charix's ability once to move a few points of toughness to his power before you switched the power and toughness. Its a 2 card effect, not a 3 card effect.

One could also put 'serpent of yawning depths' in the 99 of a charix deck. or just build a yawning depths deck. ive been trying to make it a viable thing to even sit down at a table with let alone actually win and charix may help.

As much as I want to play crab rave with Charix as my commander I think it belongs way better in an arcades or “assign damage by toughness” deck, and the two main enchantments I can think of that do that are WB or G for colors. So as much as I love him I see him as a 99 for toughness matters/defender decks

Marit Lage is still the largest toughness creature, though it is a token and created by two different cards. I guess anything with an X cost is also technically able to be larger than 17 as well, but whatever).
