Reporter: Monique what did you eat for breakfast? Monique: You ask what did I have for breakfast, but what you need to be asking is what did Dave Chapelle, Chris Rock and Amy Schumer have for breakfast!!
Mal.... Monique did interviews about this Netflix issue at various stations, but there is only ONE station that received 2 million views in 3 days, and that's The Breakfast Club.... but The Breakfast Club isn't hot anymore? You didn't really think this one through, did you?
I don’t understand how Mal reached the conclusion that Monique got Charlamagne outta here. She used the cliche response women give when you disagree with their narrative, “he doesn’t like black women, he’s trying to put down black women” angle. He constantly praises miko grimes, Angela rye, cari champion, jemele Hill, jada pinkett, Tiffany haddish, and other black women. Almost everything she said was based off emotion (from the way she kept referring to him by his govt name to the “he’s against black women” angle). What’s so amusing about her using his govt name? Many public figures use stage names; Jamie Foxx, Bernie Mac, and many others. He asked her why feels like she should get x amount of money and she didn’t answer it, she kept bringing up other ppl.
Mr. Nobody Yeah mal bugging. I’m not a fan Charlamagne, but I’m not going to let that cloud my view of his position in the game. He and TBC are still relevant, he has tv shows, his podcast, and he has a successful book he wrote not too long ago.
Yepac Shakur That’s why I included Jamie Foxx as an example of someone using a stage name, DUMB ASS. Next time take your time reading something before you reply
Carlos Sistrunk It's not a race problem. If it were, Chris Rock would not have gotten a good deal. If it's a gender bias then Amy Schumer wouldn't haven't gotten a good deal. It all just makes sense from a business standpoint because she hasn't been touring recently.
In this case it’s the combination of the two, race and gender...black women are paid less in every field compared to every one else with the same or lessor credentials...people may not like Monique but this is a real issue.
Carlos Sistrunk Nobody said racism wasn't a real issue. It's just that racism has no place in this argument. She's trying to use her resume as justification for a larger deal
I gotta vibe that they pre planned this debate cause I don’t believe mal really believes that, he didn’t give any good reasons like he usually would when he’s against somethin
Mal really be reachin sometimes, tryin to make it seem like he on to something. Bruh, the breakfast Club isn't going anywhere. Atleast not because of Mo'Nique and her interview. CThaGod stuck to his point and explained it thoroughly.
Irena Deacon Henriquez since you commenting on every comment defending Monique you must’ve went to 1 of her shows and supported her right? 😳 if not it’s fans like you why she was offered so low
I agree with CtG, her resume is good, but she CURRENTLY isn't popping or "relevant". I like her, she's funnier to me than Tiffany Haddish. Her argument and reasoning is flawed. She's trying to attach her situation to the very real issues of sexism and racism. CtG never once said sexism isn't a problem or that racism isn't a problem, his point, and most logically thinking people's point, is that her problem is current popularity and demand in 2017-2018. Amy was popping for a few years before her deal, she had her Inside Amy Schumer show and that huge hit in Trainwreck. I think Amy's pretty funny, more in her movies and show, but not really her standup. Dave was still in demand after he left Comedy Central and at some point started doing shows and big venues that most people weren't aware of, but if you RU-vid'd Dave Chappelle back in 2014 and 2015 (like I did) you'd see a bunch of snippets here and there of him doing shows all around the world. Chris Rock just has that "It Factor" and still keeps himself relatively relevant and was also doing tours and things of that nature. So you can't argue racism, when Dave and Chris are getting big deals, and you can't argue sexism towards black women when Shonda Rhimes received a bigger deal than both Dave and Chris combined. Also, why would you want to boycott Netflix, because 1 black woman is supposedly being underpaid, when there are hundreds of black creators on Netflix? Just to name a few of the black content on Netflix: Chewing Gum, Mudbound, The Getdown, Dope, Roxanne Shante has a show or movie coming, Shonda Rhimes got a huge deal with them. I mean I just don't get it. Again, I like Monique, but she refuses to stop shooting herself in the foot. You got Tyler Perry, Oprah, Lee Daniels, Will Packer and now Netflix all on your bad side? It has to come a point where she takes a look in the mirror and realizes that maybe, just maybe, she's the problem.
Excellent points and agreed with them all outside of Mo'Nique being funnier than Haddish. I think they're both pretty damn funny in different ways but I haven't heard anything funny from Mo'Nique in a while.
Tiffany is more goofy and I think it's cute. Mo is definetly top tier funny to me. I believe she's seen herself in the mirror but her ego won't let her smh.
What Mo'nique doesn't understand is that is that disparity doesn't always equate to racism. The market is the least racist mechanism on earth. The market doesn't give AF about your what your skin color is, your background, or your past. If you have a good product that is in high demand, it will sell. Has she ever stopped to consider the fact maybe she isn't in high demand? Why should netflix offer a high price to an act that isn't as in demand as other acts? Instead of going back to the drawing board, and restructuring her routine, she lashes out because he doesn't want to except the fact that perhaps her comedic skills are not what's in demand. This is the dumbest argument I've ever heard. Monique doesn't want equality. Monique wants special privilege. It's about who can bring the company the most return on investment. That's not racism
So she said it was a black and gender issue. But Chappelle got a huge deal and Schumer got a huge deal. Mo'Nique's deal was bad, but Netflix calculated the risk involved and they didn't think she could bring in millions to the table. I HATE Schumer's comedy, but she still sells shows and stars in big movies. Mo'Nique did this to get attention. Netflix did nothing wrong.
Yes, but they had no reason to think it would suck because she sold out shows and even though I hate her, doesn't mean other don't like her. Also, bad reviews doesn't mean she didn't make them money. I doubt they made money, but they could have. Mo'Nique is trying to say Netflix has an agenda against blacks and women and that just isn't true. So even if others didn't deserve that much money, she didn't deserve millions either. So she pretty much grabbed Netflix by the balls to give her more money than she's worth.
Regald Denko Exactly! Comedians can say some dumb shit, I think Louis CK is going to come back after he was exposed as well. But what she did is just bad for Netflix. That's like if I went to work, said I deserve more, they said nope, you don't bring that much money to the company, and then going on TV and saying they discriminate. Nobody will hire me after that, especially if I'm wrong. She fucked up, and I don't feel sorry for her. She isn't likeable to me.
Regald Denko - that's exactly what I've been saying! If you're funny, prove it. She had a golden opportunity here, the whole world stopped to hear what she had to say after that boycott fiasco. What I've seen from many of the greats is how when they face adversity, they flip it into an opportunity that benefits them. That is how you garner praise and respect. I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt, but if you can't even peel off supporters from a movement happening right now that's supposed to shine a light on inequality, then I don't know what to say.
It’s old comedy specials of Monique so who is watching that , Joe Buddens u r a stupid ass...I can’t wait til Fifty Cent catch up wit u for dissing Eminem
I’m with Joe.. I felt like she was doing a lot of dancing around. Obviously the offer was extremely low but I had questions that she just simply didn’t answer.
I think Charlemagne gave her more respect than she deserved. I would'nt have kept my composure like he did. She obviously came up there strictly to insult and disrepect him on every level and prove her donkeyhood. And didn't answer anything she was asked.
The fact that he kept his composure was the best part. She was getting angrier as the interview went on. Only the people who hate Charlamagne would believe he got sonned. Monique looked like a major ass in the end.
No, because he also disrespected her. I do lean towards his side, I think she doesn't have to involve everybody to her personal issue. I'm not gonna boycott Netflix just cause they gave her a bad deal. But I think she was perfectly justified with her slight jabs cosidering the stuff he said to her. Her story about how she first met Charlamange, and how he was back then to her, versus how he is now made him look a bit like a hoe ass nigga too. I'm sick of Charlamange fans being okay with whatever Charlamange says to people, but then all of the sudden have an issue when someone says something back.
I'm not sure there will never be closure. She will ride this train for as long as she can. Its like Barbara Streisand last last last last last concert.
ll we Shiiiit, Mo'Nique Ass Kept Going Against His Word And Everything He Has No Control Thats Why They Wasnt On The Same Page. They're Husband, Wife, And business Partners. He Has To Take Control Somewhat
Thank you Joe. Monique was wrong. Charlemagne proved his point and that's why she couldn't answer the questions. Here is the thing. Monique herself said that Amy Schumer sold out Madison Square Garden twice. Netflix wasn't going by a resume. That isn't Amy Schumer's resume . That's her draw. Sydney said that Monique received a standing ovation in two sold out shows in a club. Madison Square Garden holds 20,789 people. I'm going to go a step futher and put Monique in a theater that is bigger than a club. She has played the Apollo Theater and let's say she sold it out twice. The Apollo holds 1,506. Now if she sells it out twice that's only 3,012. Compare that to Amy Schumer's Madison Square Garden twice. That's 41,578 seats and she sold it out. Monique wants to go by resumes and those numbers aren't on hers. She has never sold out an Arena in her career. So I understand how she gets that low offer. I agree with Joe. Monique never answered anything She deflected. Has Monique been this out spoken on black lives matter or Colin Kaepernick? Did she speak at the woman's march which addressed issues like what she is claiming? All she did was ask to be paid what the legends are getting and they are getting 20 million, without pulling in the draw of the legends. Then she took her beef with Hollywood, which is a separate issue and claimed that's why Netflix made her that offer. Let's be real. Netflix only cares about the draw. Monique's argument for me only proved that she is difficult to work with. If black women don't agree with her then she says they are misinformed but if black men don't agree with her then she says you don't love your mother or your sister. Am I the only one noticing that. Charlemagne simply tried to stay respectful because he likes Monique. He just didn't see her case. I don't either. Is there inequality in Hollywood? Yes there is but does it apply to Monique and the Netflix deal. She is playing clubs. She mentioned Sammore in a interview and she is coming to the twin cities to perform with an ensemble cast in a theater. Kevin Hart was here and sold out a stadium by himself. He was the headliner. So why if I'm Netflix would I pay anyone who has always been at clubs and theaters the same money I would pay for a headliner in a arena? Even Monique's movies she acts like she was the star. She wasn't and has never been. She needs to look more carefully at her resume when she wants to compare herself to headliners.
Everyone that's thinking like Mal just found it funny she called Charlamaqne by his government name. Everyone actually listening realized she wasn't saying shit and is full of shit.
Monique had no answers. Just taking her personal issues and trying to "Me Too" twist it. It failed and she through folks who helped her under the bus. She had an L and tried to finesse it, but nobody's stupid. We see the fake mission she on. 😂 This hype should help her live audience attendance though.
Dandre Wansley Everybody is reading that deal wrong. It's being misinterpreted. She couldn't perform any of the material that she used on the special for 2 years. Not a request that's that difficult to uphold.
Water Gates that is pretty difficult an hour of material is a lot of material unless you have a team of writers. Shit Mike Epps is still touring using the same jokes from a special he dropped damn near 10 years ago.
Jerome Beck that’s not the argument though I’m not faulting mike Epps for that bc the stuff is still funny but people will not pay to come hear the same jokes they saw on dvd this isn’t music you can’t just crank out jokes bc most jokes are based off of real life experience and current events so some serious time would have to pass and some serious life would have to be lived in order to come up with good jokes For example lil Rell just came out with his special last year and he’s been performing a lot of that material since 07 ish. Kevin Hart used a lot of jokes from his routine in the 90’s on his first special.
I lit up when Joe made the point about entertainers being in the sunken place once they have their significant others managing them. It's a sad truth but its true. Parents are ok (Beyonce, Brandy, Ashanti etc) but careers always seem to fall off when significant others come into the picture for management. As much as I love all these ladies, we can look at Monique, Kelly Rowland, and Amerie as perfect examples...
Monique is a master of deflecting difficult questions. She answers you with another question because things have got be her way. Is Mal Monique’s nephew 😆
Davis Music i know he got fired if u listen to the other podcast when he addressed that he said ppl were calling the new camera guy “New New Chris Brown”
Monique did make valid points in that interview though, but you choose to look past it.the fact that Lenard couldn't name ANY black female comedian that was paid close to those "legends" or hot white female comedians in the past decade or so proves her point.there were plenty of women of color who were brilliant comedians, how come none of them are known?? truth is the comedy business is harsh on women,ESPECIALLY black and women of color in general. and am pretty sure TIffany didn't get anywhere close to what Amy was paid, even though she is "hot" right now. but the way Monique went about that Netflix deal was wrong and did her more harm than good.
Mal didn't execute this well at all. Head was in the right place but he shouldve said Charlagmagne has a history of jumping to negative conclusions too fast, especially with black women. Monique gets painted as someone with bad character mainly because she stands up for herself and others while being a black woman, which in turn black balls her from work. Shit aint fair at all
The interview was tense but jokes. Monique is a legend from the parkers days but CURRENTLY she ain't popping to get dave chapelle money so maybe not cling to the gender/race issue. #mylovelys #daddy her famous lines lol
CTG forsure made Mo'Nique look foolish...In my opinion, the interview showed that she didn't even have a real case to stand on with the whole "netflix boycott"...She better ask professor Oglevee for a deal!
There is a point these guys are missing. Netflix should expose and discuss the “metrics.” If I look at these guys and say cap dude is worth $100, bald guy is worth $80 and Joe is worth $5. Then Joe should be able to ask me how did I come up with $5? If you don’t expose and discuss metrics then it’s personally based and susceptible to criticism.
Carlos Medrano let me correct that. Metrics is a part of their overall business strategy, but the metrics themselves are trade secrets. It's a part of their deal making strategy. They don't want their competitors to be able to use it to their advantage.
Notthefather ok now I understand. I think we’re on the same page. But if I don’t reveal how I came to my offer then it’s going to be open to criticism and will eventually offend someone. We all agree they proposed a bullish!t offer to Monique but she has the right to know how they came to that number which they didn’t.
Businesses make deals all the time and they shouldn't care about "offending" someone. This isn't a government building you're trying to get into. This isn't a right to a state-sanctioned program. This is a private business. If you feel offended, take your business elsewhere. They can basically say "your comedy sucks and you won't bring in viewers" and turn their backs on you. At the same time, they can want you and you can tell them to go fuck themselves. Or you can say nothing. There is no "have" to in any of this.
Mal getting ahead of himself saying CTG is out of here.Breakfast club been winning for 7 years & cruising, syndicated in many markets and you are on a podcast that is called "Joe Budden Podcast" that is cool but cannot be compared to BC so my brother Mal, humble himself and realize what you are saying is "crazy"
i definitely agree with budden saying monique just kept proving charlamagne was right with her actions AND the weird relationship she had with "daddy" that budden called mind control lolol
I think everyone forgot that Netflix said they offered her $500K initially but wanted an audition for what would have been a total of 3 million. And even if people refuse to believe that, then why not counter offer? How can you determine that a company is sexist AND racist because they didn’t offer just you what you felt you deserved? For those that are going to ride with Monique regardless, just cancel your Netflix membership and keep it moving...
Mal is crazy The Breakfast club is still relevant. He must live under a rock. All three (Angela, Envy, Leonard) has branded themselves far beyond TBC and have crossed over into international brands. But no one discussed how he has given himself "Donkey of the Day". So glad Joe was the voice of reason and truth in this discussion. Great Job Joe!
Mo said that they made a counter offer, her husband said they didn't...yet she calls Charlemagne out for not having all the facts? Monique did not prove her point, she answered no questions directly.
love how this has aged. Many black women have now come out about pay disparity. Most recently Viola Davis, also the lawsuit Monique filed against Netflix is going well in her Favor. So if you ask me, she stood her ground and it is working out for her
I like Mo'Nique but she was using her acting resume to justify why she deserve just as much or more as the rest. From a comedic stand point she hasn't being doing shows like the rest. Was the deal shitty...hell yea but you have to put in the work first and let that shit speak for itself. Mo'Nique next show isn't until May!!!
Cedric Page I hear you but she did make a valuable point with her resume'Dave Chappelle went away for like nearly what 18 years comes back and get paid millions monique has not gone away and if she did she mentioned it in the interview what went away for 4 months and still being paid 500000 there taking the mick. I just believe Lee Daniels f***** her over and she's been blackballed and monique will always will be paid long until she opens up her own business or her own production company and support up and coming movies use her production make them work under her label like vivica fox, Will Smith Tyler Perry, Brad Pitt, they have their own production company where people film under their label that's what monique needs to do the same as Oprah she has her own company where people film reality programmes under her label so monique won't need to work on anybody if she had followed Oprah ideas owe your own company she should have done with Lee Daniels as she did him favour to be paid that low doing precious she should have open up production company and he does his movie under her label get a good percentage you done lee a favour he used her to get into the game and made her be blackballed and she's been in a game for some many years.
Nah, first off Dave Chappelle didn't go away for 18 damn years. And when he came back, he didn't go directly to Netflix. He's been selling out clubs all over the place. He's been sharpening his craft in even little places... the Laugh Factory, the IceHouse, the Comedy Store, he's been popping up everywhere and been killing it. And he has non-stop constant material. He also has a COMEDY resume, like "Killin Em Softly" and "For What It's Worth" (not to mention Chappelle Show) in addition to his recent momentum. People want to come see Dave. Everybody does. When's the last time you heard someone wanting to see Monique? She hasn't had one single successful stand up special in her entire career. She can't compare herself to Dave. It's an insult to real comedians.
One of the few times I disagree with Mal lol. The Breakfast Club might as well be a Monopoly in the Radio World right now man. Only people coming remotely close to them in the radio world is Sway and Big Boi. Hot 97 been lost in the sauce for years now.
Why are people saying Monique is standing up for black women? Her argument is BS. Black men and women have gotten Multi-Million dollar deals with Netflix. So as cthagod pointed out, it's not Netflix shitting on black women, they just shitting on her. Period. As she herself stated, she's been black-balled in Hollywood. And as Envy pointed out, Netflix knows this and are using it to their advantage or against her. So her argument should be "I DESERVE MORE". Because that's really her ONLY argument.
Karma missed then because she played no one but herself. She dodged his very valid questions and got mad and tried to be passive aggressive embarrassing herself even more. Her and her Daddy took the L.
