Would love to see a facial reconstruction of this guy. I think it will bring him further into reality and portray him in a more human, lifelike way. Terrible story though, how you could stalk someone to their grave and then dismember their corpse. It is a shame because people definitely wouldn't have had a full understanding of this condition.

If that 8 foot tall girl had been in my high school I would have been the first in line to ask her to go to the prom. I hate it when people get picked on for what they look like or the clothes they're wearing. Like my wife says we might have old clothes but they're all clean and sewed if they need it.

What an incredibly moving documentary. Thank You for sharing! It was so hard to watch the oblivious “Tsk Tsk & For Shame” platitudes about how he came to be put on display, wherein I choke on an affronting offense that it is still just as shameful today, considering his explicit wishes for obscure burial rather than commodity carrion. I invest no personhood in the body vehicle once transcended. Was only briefly puzzled filling out legal documents of last medical wishes when coming across the question: “How would you like your body treated after you die?” - to which I formally dictated; “with kindness, but no great importance “.

@DaithiDublin thanks a million for your comments. I made the original documentary. I thought I might as well put it up online while there is a lot of media interest in Byrne. As it is over half in Irish it is more or less impossible to sell it on to other broadcasters. Best wishes Daithi...

PBS does a lot of Irish broadcasting all March and much fundraising too. Many Irish American's tune in religiously for years with great nostalgia. The irish enunciation was beautiful for a non irish speaking ear and that is an appealing point as well because the sounds could be heard between words rather than all melding together. This absolutely would appeal to an American audience. Irish and non Irish. I don't speak Irish my family does and this was the first time I actually was interested in hearing it spoke because of the clarity. Sometimes , I did not read subtitles at points because the listening of language was as enjoyable as the moving story . Their stories should be told and shared and the irish is a bonus.

Charles Byrne should be buried with great dignity. It is wholly disrespectful to still have his remains on display, if they are. Today we have modern methods that replicate the human skeletal frame. We, supposedly, advanced human beings of the modern age MUST respect this man's dying wish, else we continue to be in support of this gross heinous act of John Hunter.

There are certain rural areas called Gaeltacht where Irish is spoken on a daily basis by most people. They are mainly in remote areas in the west of Ireland. However there are Irish speakers across all of Ireland and it can commonly be heard in all the major cities. I did hear someone on tv say recently that there is no necessary connection between speaking Irish and being Irish. The language isn't defeated yet, there is a big resurgence of interest, but it has had a tough couple of centuries.

Hilary mantel wrote a book about him. She changed the name to O Brien. Pituitary tumours are a dis ease. Causing many problems. He could have died from pituitary apoplexy for example. The Irish language is spoken in those areas known as Gaeltachts ; in the west , southwest ; northwest . A concerted effort is being made to encourage it in schools. Sin Fein are campaigning to have it reestablished as an official language in Northern Ireland , however they are having trouble dealing with those primitive bigots called the DUP . The surname I have is Gaelic. Ie “Fatchach” pronounced = fawhuk , can be translated as Giant.

The language will be preserved by scholars but it is not commonly spoken in Ireland today, and the younger generations don't speak it at all and have no interest in it. The Welsh language is far more commonly heard in Wales.

I am the current Irish giant. I'm same stats as Hulk Hogan. Great grams was full cherokee and I got the sasquatch gene . Been to both sides of the family reunions. My dad is 5'10" and the second largest male. I just saw a sea of heads... no one except me ... hold it theres a big guy... none married in to the family.and that was it. If course I was dating Senator McCains 6'3" blond to the waist nordic goddess personal aide. Her 3 brothers played with the Cardinals and I towered over these guys and they all gave her the food work thumbs up.. I met them at Dennys and almost immediately word was out the team was in the building... and whondidntheybrun up to first... I had to point them to the real heros and I just looked down at them all and everyone wanted to know the giant was happy about all this I put my hands on my hips and laughed a giant laugh and the party went on. So all my life I've done highly unusual things... I cleared a forest of sasquatch for president Carter. I was the diplomatic gunman guarding Kissinger and Chase as they flew into our little million acre preserve.. I'm 8 feet tall... with my hoss cartwright hat ... I was with a nasa group and we had anti grav as our spacelab experiment flew overhead... 1974... my neighbor Ralph George ....invented television with RCA... next up JPL-SETI Goldstone Labs inventor. Complete nasa earth station in my back yard. Mom was editor then nurse .. I have pictures standing next to her. I'm really big. So mom really liked this sheriff.. so I invited him to the big ORO.. he missed both barrels and with his snubnose I aced the quails eye downrange at 40 mph ..maybe 90 yards... he was the rangemaster and 1968 olympic shooter.. now i had a real reputation in a real cowboy town where half my class ate a bullet at the palace playing john wayne. But I had a good partner. Dutch made sure i rode with him on patrol.after that every chance.. I rode with Ringo on double O and the big green cattle company.. All these men were fully blooded professional killers... to a man. 52 employees and I wouldn't cross any of that crew. I rode with the best. I ride with Ringo. Gramps adopted that cowboy family and ip to the mansion for a chance to meet a real cowboy. After that I was star struck. Pretty much like Curley on the City Slicker movie. He held the record for most kills of anyone in history ww2 korea. The box clip Winchester 1905 would take out anything moving for a mile or two. If you think Tom Selleck was a good shot in Quigley.... well he had a few to lob out there and you would go down with one of em. He showed me where we bury the rustlers as I turned a teenager... this was a mighty serious business.. not a tv show... and mountain lions hunting you the minute you come into their area. Then there was the forest service and USGS ...outing the marines I surveyed Faine Cattle Co. It's now called Prescott Valley. Checking hunting licenses pulling out stuck cars chasing murderers through the Bradshaw's and i brought in a lost hiker at midnight while all were warming at Lynx Lake stores would stove.. I was going for the BAR and my first year law school I picked up a supreme court case... Hugh Hefner on the phone with a blank check happy days... all over 3 seeds in a college trailer. So my lawyer and I bought new cadillacs. I got a blue one and he the red 2 door 1974.... 512 cubic inch.. wow !. Moved up to walker... ghost town in the hills. My new neighbor... Anton Levay.. So my deep state crat family and the lodge blackballed me. Anti grav led to murder and men in black.. and they actually suspected me .. the leaker.. damage done when they learned our comrade cooked his own goose.. his father and my mother autopsied the boy. Murdered day off from U of A reactor.. His father... Col. Dr. Whitman Chief of Staff ft. Whipple. So my family has a dead presidential candidate. And my first 33 I am nephew to Senate Finance Chair Russel Long. Gramps is 32° lawyer for the Pennsylvania .. Ssets and liabilities. Golf's with Ike. His wife is Virginia Long.. She has given me the Holy 33° oil since birth. Fermented skatefish oil and a 10 minute beating with a switch.. to get circulation going and pop open that pineal gland. Masons have very unusual habits. You will probably never hear another story of what it takes to be a secret society presidential candidate. I was just big and everyone wanted me around .. I finally yogi'd up and self realized and learned who I was... Not the mold I was being poured into. The veil went up and I met the man behind the curtain and have no need of any more earthly initiations into blackmail groups of dynastic tyrannical controllers whom you cannot change.. having no effect on the president governor or even mayor I have sought to do something for the one and only person I can do anything for... me. I stuck to.my guns near half century now and pots legal. So I learned the secret of marijuana... bake it 300° six minutes and medicine. Good bye cancer. Good bye dialysis and infection... bud in the smoothie a month or two...good luck...

Back in 2010 I talked to Brendan Holland over the phone about Charles Byrne, and apparently the documentary was being done at the time because a representative of Mr. Holland reached out to me wanting to hear what I knew about Charles Byrne because a few years prior to this I did a write up about Byrne and how it was likely he was related to the Knipe brothers (7'2") and Patrick Cotter O'Brien (8'1"). Mr. Holland was a very pleasant man, though I don't think he was quite sold on my theory that the old legends (ie, Fomorians) follows the old axiom where there's smoke there's fire. It was/is my opinion that there was a race of people in ancient times who were larger than the norm, and they were dying out due to warfare and survival (ie, higher calorie needs) and this reality trickle down into the fairy tales of giants kidnapping women, pillaging villages, and cannibalism. Ultimately the race of people were absorbed by persons of average height, and this hereditary gene passed on over the centuries occasionally popping up seemingly at random when in truth it was waiting to be released. It's no coincidence that cases of gigantism occurs more often in the British Isles than anywhere else in the world. I suspect, retrospectively, when Ireland was a part of Doggerland this ancient race frequented the area only to come back after it was partially submerged. The fact that the DNA evidence suggested this gene goes back thousands of years, and that Mr Holland was indeed related to Charles Byrne, from my point of view validated my own theory. Anyways, despite my input I was never listed in the credits for the documentary, but that's okay 😊 I still have my memories with Mr Holland and that was pleasant enough. Furthermore, it's well beyond time for Mr Byrne to either be buried at sea as he requested or to be returned to Ireland to be buried in County Tyrone where he originated. It must also be noted that the American Giant Charles Freeman for many years stood right beside Charles Byrne in the glass case exhibit. Where Mr Freeman's body has gone is another mystery as he hasn't been on display for quite some time. Although I must say as a curiosity seeker it would be interesting to see if a facial reconstruction of Mr Byrne's face couldn't be done as well as a possible voice reconstruction. Jesus Christ Almighty God bless you all 😊

They weren't sad or unhappy about being tall, but the condition is painful. The wrestler Andre The Giant suffered a lot of pain years before he died. You cant easily find clothes that fit, all furniture is too small. Everything has to be custom made for you and that always costs more. It's not too fun being a giant.

@@macbhloscaidh Based on his bones, Byrne was still growing taller at the time of his death. The acromegaly hadn’t set in at that point. How much maybe a few more inches.

So now that the DNA, science has shown that he does indeed have living relatives, can't they demand their families remains be turned over to his surviving family? This is already been established in the courts with native American.

That surprises me. Can you not overdub it, or is that too expensive to do? You see it done a lot on Fíorscéal with all those Australian and German documentaries. It's a pity, because it was very well made. I especially loved the music too. Beautiful. Looking forward to the rap documentary. Any news on that, release-wise?

Sad that this poor mans body was treated with no dignity. Of course the same thing has been going on in the US for fifty years to aborted babies, no respect whatsoever, and even worse, their body parts are sold for profit. Now in the US there is a bill in some states, a bill sponsored by these killers for profit that if passed (Infanticide bill) that would allow for the killing of a baby up to 28 days after birth. These butchers aren't satisfied with the money they get for abortions, they now are after babies that are born so there are complete body parts to sell. Yes people, this is going on today, and the true horror is that the majority of the people vote for the party that not only accepts what is going on, but promote it and make the taxpayers pay for it. Charles Byrne was one body that was abused and disrespected, while 60 million unborn have been murdered, disrespected, dismembered, and sold for profit, and we dare call ourselves human.
