You might not think this gentleman appealed to pre-teens during this time, but he had quite the effect on me. His calm rationalization of everything was so settling to a young boy with a crazy home life. He taught me that you could say something profound and smart without yelling. He brought me peace, may he find it now. Thanks Charles.

You said that so beautifully and so well, and there have to be many others who feel much the same, and I’m one. Whether he was being serious-serious or funny-serious, he took his time and was so calm and direct, firmly in his reality. He was a great example of how to “be” in the world.

Dick Cavett just seems so pleasant to talk to. Like, here you see him mock a few things, be self effacing, and vent a little sarcastically, but he does it all so gently and nicely.

I love he way Charles is interested in what Dick has to say and asks simple, direct questions. He would make a wonderful interviewer. It seems like this came out with Dick as it hasn’t with other interviews of his I’ve seen. Dick had a way of drawing a person out. I miss him. He, along with Johnny Cason are, in my estimation, the best interviewers who ever lived.

You throw Carson and Cavett into the same boat -- but Cavett was the consensus better interviewer. Carson with his emphasis on humor was a better interviewer than many give him credit for. But Cavett was basically the "Alt Interview Show." Cavett stayed on the air for years by basically saying, "Here's how a 'talk' show should be done..."

There is some lady at given moments of Charles' typical humour here when we hear her way in the back laughing her head off.('Are we on?") Even Charles hears her laughing and half remarks her appreciation. ("Going over big back there"). These are magic moments.

"The Incredible Shrinking Woman" with Lily Tomlin was actually a very funny film with amazing practical effects and set design. I still remember watching it as a kid. Another great is "Seems Like Old Times" by Neil Simon with Goldie Hawn and Chevy Chase. His role in "Dave" is perfect. Charles' dry wit was always priceless. He was a very, very funny actor that I will always remember. He may not have realized it but we did. Thank you Charles for making us laugh. ❤️

I had not heard of Charles Grodin, and was sad to see he passed away only a couple weeks ago. I imagine that is why this was uploaded today? I say "sad" because the conversations in these interviews sometimes feel so modern to me, and it is hard for me to imagine it was 40 years ago.

The Curious Case of Charles Grodin. An accomplished actor who didn't like the acting gig. Later, a talk show guy who gabbed for years on TV. Two pretty strong careers.

5:15 // Charles speaks to the "opportunity Cost". there is only movie to do at a time, choose the one worthy of that time spent upon it, or be paid well enough that your time was well paid for then pray u can make up the time lost over a project that later does not FEEL nor bring a reaffirmation (i have not used that word in months). thanks

I always thought the hazard of being an actor is they dilute their own personal character by playing too many others, fictional or factual. They spend so much time on those characters they stick to their own. The actor ends up having an heterogeneous personality.
