Hoping to lose a few subscribers. Original recording was done on a cheap tape recorder so I thickened the audio with reverb & EQ. Why was this flagged for copyright claiming Leonard Cohen is the writer? The owner of ESP Disk can felate me severely

Damn, I wrote a paper about Mr. Manson in one of my Criminal Justice classes and played this song after my presentation, I found it funny that people were asking me where they could purchase this song. Once they found out who it was they changed their minds.... I LOVE THIS SONG

Charlie's biggest problem was Charlie. If he'd stayed cool with Terry instead of trying to bully him, he may have had a record deal with at least an acquaintance of Terry. @Linkolite

Manson was an incredibly complex character. I agree with more of what he says than disagree. Like Ted Kaczynski, you see these incredibly powerful intellectual minds driven over the brink towards violence because they simply can’t be understood. In Manson’s case I think this was compounded by being surrounded with supportive groupies who probably treated him and introduced into him that he was Jesus.

Charles had an awesome opportunity to become a star. Back then, believe it or not, it was much easier to make it, and, even though Roman Polanski and a few others rejected him, he could have still done it. Many of the stars were rejected, but, hung in there and kept going around doing live shows gaining a following. Indeed, Charles had no trouble getting people to follow him. He proved that. Had he used it to his advantage, he could've still made it. So what if the road is a little longer. He was very young. He could've done it. But, he let his own selfish pride destroy him and many others around him too.

One of my favorite songs from the sixties. Such a shame. Charles Manson should have been an iconic, eccentric, awesome songwriter. In a weird way he still ended up becoming one. Hell, the songs have already survived the test of time. In 100 years, some jackoff is going to be listening to this song long and have no idea who Charles Manson is, but know the song is great.

No, but mediocre folk music. He could have made a meager but honest living if he'd had the discipline and worked hard at it in the 60's, like others did. As a master con man, he didn't want to work that hard.

Manson is a true dreamer and wrote some beautiful music before he got too intense to follow. I love this stuff, and all his lyrics. For better or worse, he is a very special person, and these songs are interesting and good listening. I just imagine if he'd been produced by someone other than the "beach" boy's drummer...or if he had found a band with some decent musicians.

The Beach boys put him in touch with Terry Melcher who lived at the same address as Sharon Tate and Roman Polanski, sometime before Sharon and Roman got the house. It did not matter who was living there. Because anybody that could afford that house was a social pig according to Charlie. Sharon and Roman were paying 500.00 per month for that house. Which was a very high rent in 1969. Remember he was on their property and was told to get off the grounds when Sharon was in the pool. Their eyes met. He kept asking for Terry Melcher and was told Melcher did not live there anymore. Apparently Terry Melcher did not think that Charlie had much talent. And wouldn’t see him anymore.. That’s what angered him.

You have read helter skelter which is the biggest load of bullshit made up crap going. Even top lawyers have now admitted bugliosi would never have gotten away with his prosecution of manson today let alone the crap he wrote in that book. Melcher knew manson personally. Manson played exclusively in the hip laurel canyon bars were the likes of Melcher, the doors, mamas and papas, Frank zappa etc frequented and was loved. He was actually nicknamed the wizard for his music. His first band was called the milky way. It should never have been called the manson murders but the Charles tex Watson murders.

Charlies problem was he would never focus on anything, and just expected it to happen because he felt he deserved to be famous. Entitled little kid in his head, and always stayed that way.

Recorded on September 11, 1967 and August 9, 1968 (overdubs), its distribution began during the Manson murder trial by Phil Kaufman who initially pressed a run of 2,000 copies, of which only 300 sold.It appeared on his album Lie: The Love and Terror Cult which was released in 1970 to help pay for his defense during the murder trial. Later Grogan and some family girls made an album called "The Family Jams". There is footage of them singing in a documentary called "Inside the Manson Gang".

My big thing is. He wasted his talents. Being a Singer and songerwriter, I wouldn't have done this but what people don't understand he wasn't domesticated like everyone else. Getting kicked out of Foster homes, being in prison his whole life butbhe found salvation in his music. He was a beatneck before hippies and hippies and beatnecks are the sane thing. But Charlie was with the times man, he knew for a fact he could control those kids minds to believe everything he believed in. He's still alive today. Charlie's not a psycopath. He's just really smart. Street smart. Free MANSON. Let him be with his wife and let him sing man.

Innocent man, framed by Nixon for political purposes. A major talent, very significant artist. The world lost a great man in 2017. Hopefully one day Charles Manson's reputation will be rehabilitated, and schools will be named after him, ships, highways. Maybe his face will appear on a 20 dollar bill. We could have, one day, a Manson stamp. I love you, Charlie! God bless!

While the majority of his output was rough, I still gladly put this and "Cease to Exist" on for friends as I let them guess who it is. Even after the novelty, we can still enjoy them as standalone songs. The man is a monster, but those two gems deserved the Beach Boys (Cease to Exist) and Axl Rose (this) covers they received.
