Actually when I watch Steve Harvey on Family Feud he is actually excellent. Match Game was the best. Richard Dawson was, I would say third best, Second best is Steve on the Feud is second. But out of ALL the episodes, THIS particular fill in with Charles is MINT!!!
Reilly has to be one of the funniest men ever on TV. Even when he makes a reference I don't get, his delivery and smile make it impossible not to laugh.
Richard Zowie I watch the old the ghost and Mrs muir show. He made that show. It would have lasted longer had they developed his character more into it
I try my hardest to keep things flowing when I host MATCH GAME at conventions, but I always try to have fun with it as well. It IS a tough balance, but it’s usually worth it.
I went looking for some CNR clips after I heard he had passed away. THANK YOU for finding and posting this clip! It's a classic that I'd never seen and it shows a rare glimpse of both he and Gene Rayburn. RIP Funnyman.
Match Game was so bloody fantastic. I love how political incorrect it was. People smoking, tipsy celebrities, suggestive jokes, all that fabulous 1970s fashion. Every show I feel crushed thinking most of them are now gone. But at least those who are fans can relive it and appreciate the great time that it was. Thanks for the memories.
Yes, I am very sad looking at these episodes, since as you say, most of them have passed. One of the simplest concepts for a show, yet NO game show will EVER, EVER match the Match Game.
Perri Pierre So much fun. If he would have made the shirt comment here in 2018 the woman would sue and people would call for his resignition. These were so much fun.
Brett: You are the slowest man in America when you're up here but down there you're like Speedy Gonzalez down there Charles: I've got a show to run LADY!!! Brett: What have you been DOING UP HERE for SEVEN YEARS?!??!?!
Charles was brilliant. Extremely quick witted, Not at all easy to get up and MC so quickly even though he was a panelist, BUT wow he almost did stand up. Very funny.
Can you imagine such unscripted one-take brilliant comedy happening today on a game show circa 2007? Thanks for posting, and R.I.P Charles and Gene. Thanks you forever for the fun.
I loved Charles on the Match Game. He's one of those guys that was funniest when he was being Charles Nelson Reilly! I am gonna miss him. Rest In Peace Funny Man
talking about pure fun.they should have given him more movies and tv shows he is natural . he was awesome in unfortunate short lived but excellent "The Ghost & Mrs Muir"
Charles is just awesome! A game show where people are just having a blast! It just makes you feel like your at a big party when you're watching these old clips. I think everyone forgot how to just have plain old fun. Everyone now looks like there wound so tight they're going to explode.
This show is so iconic because you never knew what would happen next. And the people on this show and others of the 1970s actually had talent in their main jobs!
It's so neat to see Marcia Wallace sitting there. She does the voice of Edna Krabappel on the Simpsons. I'm sure most people know that, but she also used to be a receptionist on the Bob Newhart show. :)
that guy is hilarious and all this was from the 70s?Steve Harvey is ok but these people whom I assume were celebrities in their time are so relaxed and really seem to be enjoying each other's company wow what a magical time. This doesn't exist today in any game show
Eva Gabor was a celebrity. Marcia Wallace and Charles Nelson Reilly were very recognizable, but perhaps not celebrities. Brett Sommers claim to fame was that she was married to Jack Klugman. McLean Stevens was on M.A.S.H. for a few seasons before deciding he was too talented to be over shadowed by Alan Alda. He left the show and basically immediately fell off the face of the earth. The regulars on this show, with the exception of Betty White and Vicki Lawrence, were famous for being on this show.
He's wearing sandals, for crying out loud. They say that C.N.R. was quite insecure and never felt he accomplished much. I wish that I could tell him how much joy he brought me- and everyone I know- for so many years. To garner such genuine affection from total strangers is no small achievement.
I grew up on this brilliantly goofy & funny show but don't recall ever seeing this segment. Gene IS tired and gets right on top of Charles to DO THIS! Our beloved Mr. Reilly does a great job here; his friendly teasing of the panel is terrific. I LOVE Gene's coaching of Charles when he says "Don't indicate...". .....and hard-core Marcia seems truly pissed about the situation; she is in NO mood to play and is VERY aggressive! LOVE THIS CLIP!! Thanks so much for posting!!
YO 🗣️ "CHUCK" ! ..... YOUR KNOWLEDGE & SENSE OF HUMOR WAZ JUST [BEAUTIFUL] BACK WHEN TO WATCH 👏🏼 .... & NOW, WELL IT'S JUST [PRICELESS] 💰 ..... ( KNUCKLE👊🏽BUMP ) CharlesNelsonReilly
I remember Mclean Stevens Hosting the show , but this is the first time I have seen Charles Hosting . I hope to see this on future Episode , because is from one of the Syndicated Match Game Episode . Gene must enjoyed taking a break now & then . I guess he got tired being on his feet .
HIGH-larious!!! Match Game was always so much fun! Only on Match Game could you get away with as much as they got away with. "The Hawaiian lady with the big .... sweater." LOL It really was like being at a party and just cutting loose.
When Gene got mad at Charles in the previous episode, Gene fell to the ground and MacLean took over. There didn't look like there was anything wrong with Gene. I think they just did this to give Gene a chance to be a panelist. I know if I were in his place, I would want to try being a panelist and get one of them to host it.
McLean was a Hell of a funny guy too. And a genuinely nice person from what I heard. He will be missed. He deserved a better career than what leaving MASH got him
in reply to talladegajunkie1439 Bart Braverman was the 1st panelist on this episode of Match Game. Bart has played many characters on TV. At this time, he was on the show Vegas with the late Robert Urich. He also voiced Pugsy on Fangface. He is the only panelist still alive from this episode. The other 5 are all deceased and of course Rayburn and Johnny.
Gosh, check out all the people in that clip that are dead now. Charles Nelson Reilly, Gene Rayburn, Eva Gabor, MacLean Stevenson...and yet it feels so familiar, since I used to watch that show all the time. Hard to believe so much time has passed...
I loved this show. Gene Rayburn was as funny as any panel member and Charles Nelson Reilly was always incredibly funny and out of the closet before it was "in" to be. A great show!
Yes, same here but, i was watching another clip about the match game reunion. It happen the same way, i was watching it few days before his death. Yes, R.I.P. Charles Nelson Reilley
Charles did a pretty good job for a first timer. I'm sure Gene Rayburn practiced a lot before this show got on the air. It just takes time, like anything else.
I believe this game show was done live in front of an audience. So being live whatever happened we saw it as it was it happened. And Gene Rayburn was a brilliant host. He handled things very well.
