Jesus christ 16 hours on 8 off.... 8 hours to drive home, get out of your clothes, shower, eat, see your wife and kids, do your chores, get ready for bed, unwind, sleep, wake up, get dressed, eat, drive to work.. .. that's fucked. Then add a late call into the mix....
If you paid attention you’d notice he said “the max”. Meaning what the service will let crew members do. They must not work more than 16 hours and must have atleast 8 hours off in between shifts.
I wouldn’t work for this place if they paid me $100,000!!! They run you into the ground and play favorites. Have to kiss ass to move forward! They don’t care about your paramedic skills. Work here in Austin! Travis County is always looking for good people!
Then you would get paid next to nothing. ATCEMS pay is absolutely awful. Getting paid $68,000 with eight years of service is ridiculous. I live in the Midwest with an even lower cost of living than Austin, and the agency I work for maxes out at $94,000 with seven years of service. Also, it’s funny that you say “they don’t care about your paramedic skills,” when ATCEMS force you to start as a basic even if you have experience as a paramedic. Not sure what experience you have with Charleston EMS, but they seem to be a solid agency with have great pay. Williamson County EMS is a much better agency; as they only hire medics, and starting pay is $56,000. That is where I would probably go if I was going to move to the Austin area.
