My dad was such a bad (athlete and business) man growing up that my mother made me and my sister believe he used to beat her and she had to leave him. The reality was she was disobedient (spoiled, used to getting her way) and still is and took us while he was on a business trip. My dad had five brothers and and my mom has four brothers and they never fought. They actually idolized my dad and his brothers, it took years to realize the lies she told to destroy her own household.
