Charley Boorman Review of the DUCATI DesertX 

OMG Charlie forgetting the term "Adventure Bike" when him and Ewan are probably more responsible for popularizing the category than anyone else!!

I bought one after watching this.. I love Charley Boorman as an influencer.

I saw the post on Instagram exactly as I was thinking, "Charlie Boorman should have a RU-vid channel" and here we are. Very nice. Currently traveling on motorcycles in Mexico, because we were inspired by the Long Way series years ago. Cheers!

After recently riding across Australia through the outback on a DR650, I briefly considered upgrading to a Desert X. After much deliberation I decided to sell my 2012 DR650, and update to a 2021 DR650. I am in love with the Desert X, but I think I will hold off until they revise the bike once or twice. Give them time to iron out any issues so to speak.

The mid-weight adventure segment is on fire. Each of the "contenders" are pushing one another. I am really hoping for side-by-side-by-side comparisons. Many of the bikes seem close enough that the decisions may come down to subjective things like how a bike looks and the type of riding a rider will really be doing.

I was reading your book with all the adventure series on the West Pacific, and noticed your RU-vid channel. I wanted to say these ADVs have no crashbars though they also are not included with training wheels that left me to conclude an advanced skill level. Very Good, Great Channel!

My thoughts; I like Charlies 12 minutes of enthusiasm by way of dozens of adjectives "this is so, sooo, really, really, heavenly, really amazing, wonderful, love it, wawwaw," and yes (of course) there are lots of accessories coming... But as a 'review' (in the title) this is just a really bad sales promotion video.

Great to see you review the Desert X Charlie! I'm a big fan and have seen all your documentary rides with Ewan. Each time you complete one, I'm hoping another will follow. Maybe you and Ewan will take the next on a pair of Desert X's!! I'm a long time Ducati owner and currently own a 2022 Pikes Peak. I'm inspired to do more off road riding so in the process of sacrificing my 2022 Speed Triple 1200RS for a Desert X. Watching your review helped reinforce my decision.

This is a very good and enthusiastic revue thanks Charlie. I had a go on the Dessert X at the NEC, in their tight little dirt arena and must say it handled it very well. By the way, I bought a GS1200 because of you, I soon changed it for a KTM😜🤣

Hello Charlie, if you're intending to spend a lot of time off-road, the bike needs the off-road kit( crash bars, toughened sump plate, Barkbusters). A better set of tyres would also help. The bike should have been fitted with a foam air filter from the factory. It's a chore that riders are getting used to doing. Oh and that rear wheel nut needs a lot of 💪💪💪- 180nm to loosen it with a breaker bar.

Thanks, Charley. I love concept of the bike. But, one dump and that tank and body work will be wasted. This is why the BMW GS Adventures are loaded with engine guards. Touratech is no doubt on the job. I ride a 2014 GSA.

The Desert X is, without a doubt, a very unique and cool looking bike. I really hope I get to see one in person. There aren’t that many Ducati dealers near me, so I’ll probably have to take a trip somewhere to see one. I think it’ll be worth it. Thanks for the video. I’m glad you have a channel now. Subbed.

I have allot of respect for Charlie Boorman and Ewan McGregor, but especially Charlie. I've seen that DVD where he is doing the Dakar, raced while he was hurt pretty badly. Their two epic rides, and one fizzle 🤔😁⚡🔌 trip, very good for entertainment and motorcycles in general. Ride on brothers!

Thanx for the review Charlie the DX is a Great bike. Such a shame the air filter access is a nightmare. I went through that with the triumph XC800. Maybe ok in GB but in Australia no way. The rear tank being incompatible with it seems any panniers looks like a problem as well.

I love this bike but.... at £14000 plus, I would never take it on the dirt. If I ride on the dirt, I will take a nice, light , inexpensive, purpose built motorcycle.

Final shaft drive is perfect for adventure big bike

Not sure the engine is the same as the Multistrada Charlie. I think you will find it’s the same engine that’s in the supersport and V2 .

I'm 99 percent sure I'm getting the desert x just on the way it looks, A 2023 bike in the new colour scheme but It's a toss up between the ducati and the tenere world raid , for looks and performance its the ducati ,for simplicity and reliability it's the world raid , I'll be test riding both soon..

Wind screen on my 2018 Africa Twin was pushed forward a lot like the DesertX and there was way to much wind buffeting. How is it on the DesertX? Have a Multistrada 1260 Enduro now and it is way better on the tarmac!

Lol, no one's taking these things off-road 🤣 like about 90% of GS's it will see tarmac most of it's days. Anyone doing otherwise for any length of time realises the cost in repairs and the trashing of your bike can be realised in a couple of days flat.

You want to hear something funny ? The Desert X is $20700 ride away in Australia and Yamaha just released the pricing of the T7 world raid today. $25 000 plus on road. I guess Ducati will sell a lot Desert X bikes here.
