"You could be calmly minding your own business in a everyday mass shooting and suddenly realise it's a terror attack!" Oh Barry Shitpeas how I love thee.
+BSEmadcow You know they just get us to come on the show and speak our minds, its a wonder really that i'm all that philosofical and stuff, thanks mate.
it was a pretty profound thought, the nightmare realization that a situation could go from every day mass shooting to a full terror attack in an instant. it would certainly make bullets more frightening if i knew the man firing them had a complex, well thought out but ultimately misguided set of beliefs behind his actions
Just wanted to share an amusing story here. About 18 months ago, I was taking my cat on the train to the Blue Cross Animal Hospital in Victoria (London's West End). As I sat down, I looked across at the seat on the other side of the carriage - and to my surprise, Charlie Brooker was sitting there. It was a couple of minutes before I decided to chat to him and, having established that it was indeed Mr Brooker, and not just some random bloke that looked like him, I told him how much I liked all his shows, and wished him all the best. Towards the end of our brief journey, I asked him if he would do me a small favour, and give me a personal performance as we parted at the ticket barrier. And he did... He turned to face me, and said 'NOW GO AWAY!!' in his typically acerbic manner. I felt very honoured to be told to GO AWAY by the great Charlie Brooker! Oh, and by the way... Philomena Cunk - I think I love you!! More than gold pants!!
+CommissionerSleer I assumed the cat had died, as we didn't hear anything else about it and didn't want to cause any undue pain to terry by enquiring. How dare you, heartless monster indeed! Actually how dare you!
Your view of the future was but a snapshot of what wasn't to come. Time is a treadmill without traction, a landslip in the distant ocean, and expands just like a can of Irn Bru in the freezer. Not sure about other drinks.
@Qwfwq66 While it's true that Irn Bru is not so popular here on the continent, that does not mean that European fridges are not more effective than British-made ones. In fact, there aren't any British ones. Even back in the 60s, Hoover fridges were made in Italy, so just chill.
@Qwfwq66 Why should the Brits freeze to death if, when cut off, they open up their old chimneys and keep the home fires burning? True, this would mean re-starting the collieries, but that might, in turn, lead to a revival in tobacco smoking in pubs and fewer wives getting slapped by impoverished ex-miners, since they would have enough money to get blitzed and fall asleep as soon as they got back from the pub and had their dinner.
@@Ndlanding I had to watch it on a little black and white CRT monitor that my son powers by means of an exercise bike connected to an enormous dynamo, the noise from which drowns out all the audio.
@@Ndlanding Oh, well, before that, we had to listen to it as a direct digital signal, as we didn't have any means of decoding the transmission. My wife had to use her own leg tendons to provide the connections from the phone line to the 28.8k dial up modem. All powered by my son's huge "dynabike" as we began calling it to amuse ourselves over the din of whirling cogs and pain.
staminapromos That's why I call it fundamentalist capitalism. Because just like every other fundamentalist ideology its beliefs are frequently shown to be nothing more than a fantasy when they are tested against real world data.
FearOgre Cronyism is what you get when capitalism meets human psychology. To the economists' despair people are not purely logical unbiased thinkers.....
"It depends on how your brain works, if your brain works you couldn't give a shit what colour it (the dress) is" - best statement about 'the dress' ever
+Kenazzle Yeah, but she answered the question "they quite often like all of us look for what the want to see and they look for what they hope to see". You've highlighted that quote because it supports your own views. I didn't think the "femininism" part of the show was taking a pro or anti feminist stance.
+okie dokie It's not being pro or anti anything, but taking the piss of feministic extremism and stupidity that's happening. Many of the feminists have been acting like massive cunty morons in media and different outlets, hence the mention in this show.
***** I have a feeling thats less up to Charlie Brooker and more up to the network, BBC are super left leaning I mean I am a right wing conservative man. If anyone was gonna call something biased, it would be me
***** He's a libertarian, which is more right-wing than left-wing. I mean most liberals aren't on the left anymore, because of how illiberal and regressive the progressives are.
10:22 Richard III "got the respectful burial he'd been denied in life." In life? To be fair, that's the wrong time to bury someone. Even if it's a respectful burial.
It means the originator of the comment totally missed the joke and irony of the "burial" comment. That was the whole point of the comedic line that you can't be buried in life but the guy they were "R/whoosh" ing did not realise that....
I don't know about epic, just mental. Endless celebrities deaths, Brexit, Theresa May, Corbyn elected Labour leader again, Donald Trump elected President AND Great British Bake Off isn't even on the BBC anymore. If you travelled back to 2013 and told me this was all going to happen I'd think you were mad..
I scrolled through a lot of decade-old comments and thought that nobody had watched this recently. I support your plea not to have this removed from YT, and I empathise with the need for Charlie Brooker's incisive wit to lift the spirits (but you used "down" to mean two different things in your short comment. Such is language 🙃.)
I cannot wait until the 2016 wipe. It's going to be the best thing to come out of this shit year, aside from maybe Pokèmon go or season two of the flash.
The ending bit with the desperate laughter seems like it could have been helped a lot by splicing in bits of the desperate laughter in the last scenes of In The Mouth of Madness
+DukeOnkled Probably because the only thing the news cares about is the depressing stuff. You simply haven't been informed about all of the amazing things that happened in 2015.
+jf8346 * Boko Haram beaten back in northern Nigeria * ISIL beaten back by the ISF and the Peshmergas in Iraq, and by the SDF in northern Syria * Ebola crisis peaks and dies down * New Horizons takes closeups of Pluto and Charon * Mother-to-child HIV and syphilis eradicated in Cuba * Cuba and the US reestablished diplomatic ties * New species of early human, homo naledi, discovered * Minsk II ceasefire in eastern Ukraine holds despite minor flareups Some of these are from Wikipedia alone, although given the condensed nature of its list, this is by no means an exhaustive list given how hard it is to recall anything worthwhile when the mainstream media is keen on hammering the fear-fueled negatives into everyone's skull. And no, I'm not listing 10, but I'll also provide a list of the bad and the neutral that has also been in the news for perspective. * Relating to the Middle East alone: ** Civil wars in Syria, Libya and Iraq continue ** ISIL still has presence in these territories, does things ISIL does best ** Russia intervenes in Syria, at odds with NATO ** Erdogan's Turkey being more dickish than usual. ** Houthis start rebellion in Yemen ** Taliban-reignited insurgency in Afghanistan ** By-products of said wars (refugees, "cultural enrichment", terror cells, and security) becomes major focus in Europe and Mideast * Earthquake in Nepal * Greece * More rampage shootings in the US * Chinese sabre rattling at the South China Sea * Chinese stock flight hit smaller economies hard * Iran-US nuclear deal reached * TPPA finalized
+jf8346 It might be difficult to only write ten things, forgive me if I write too many. 1. Same sex marriage legalised across many countries including the US and Ireland. 2. The United Nations Climate Change Conference was held in Paris with the members all agreeing to reduce climate change as soon as possible through the Paris Agreement. 3. New Horizons probe takes stunning photos of Pluto to study. 4. Africa had an entire year without polio for the first time. 5. Women were allowed to vote in Saudi Arabia. 6. Hunger became far less severe. 7. Crime rates continue to decrease across most countries. 8. The ice bucket challenge sped up research for ALS. 9. Overwhelming support for those affected by wars in countries such as Syria, as many European countries agree to take in refugees. 10. Stem cell research provides a possible solution by creating rhino horns to discourage poachers. 11. More than three million people rallied in Paris to show unity after attacks. 12. India's endangered tiger population increased by 30% 13. Judges are reconsidering long prison sentences. I've missed a few things out, but that's as close as I could get to ten :d
'Pointless Star' and 'Pointless Star' always takes a few seconds to sink in and then I just laugh in awe of how addicting listening to Brooker can be. Shame we didn't get a 2017 wipe. Let's hope there is a 2018 version because as much as I love BM, I need more cynical word bile from one of the funniest people alive in my pathetic life.
+Doom2Guy Ha! Escaping a doomed world into a virtual one that's just named "Doom". Clever. So, you're the guy, calmly sitting there with his VR googles on, in the middle of your daily mass shooting, when you peak and suddenly realise that it's a terror attack. Thanks for clarifying. It makes so much more sense now :D
I remember Charlie Brooker describing 2012 as a kind of like an end of season finale for all of mankind. After this year I'm more convinced that 2016 actually is. America has elected Trump in a last ditch effort to be renewed for another season but the reapers have had enough and the cycle must start again Commander Sheppard and a hastily edited ending isn't going to save us now
@@mrunseen3797 Cover yer geggy! Oh, and I didn't understand the post from Spider5600, re 22016: "America has elected Trump in a last ditch effort to be renewed for another season". Eh?
Dan Christmas That'd be problematic, as A: it'd be hard to fill an hour with material about that B: that's a very niche thing, I doubt too many people would watch it other than MGS fans C: we don't exactly know what caused the fall out between developer and publisher and D: is Charlie really that bothered by it? I'd much rather see a wipe for whenever the referendum happens.
Watching this the day after America elected a fascist egotist as president. It's amazing to see how revolting Trump is to people outside the US. Here, people love him for his prolific racism, sexism, and general vileness. Excited to see the 2016 wipe.
Ian Doherty thanks a bundle for uploading this. I am sitting here giggling like a Japanese schoolgirl. Again. Charlie Brooker is the boss. Barry and Philomena also rock.
I remember thinking 2015 wasn't great and 2016 needed to be eventful and uplifting. I want 2015, Obama; a fucking dress; the original five nights at Freddy's; 50 shades of unbelievable; Trump as no more than a joke and Jeremy "bash-bosh" clarkson back.
Cha4k Well there is a large amount of evidence to suggest that news reporting on mass shootings promotes more mass shootings, and reporting on terrorism is only beneficial to the terrorists. Instead, mass shootings should be local news, rather than news on a global scale with accurate depictions of how and when the events occurred. Also I fail to understand why your idea of a good news story is pictures of kittens. Are you that brainwashed that you don't think anything good has happened to the human race?
John Scally Hackers stealing the details of people from the adultery website sounds like an episode of Black Mirror, kind of a cross between 'Shut Up and Dance' and 'Hated in the Nation'. I'd love to see the premise used in a future episode.
I'm probably going to sound like a bit of an idiot for this but, despite the pure un-restained darkness of this entire show, the fact that they sampled RTJ made me slightly happier.
"People" have "lapped them up" because they are only mediocre in your opinion and some people legitimately enjoy them without it being anything to do with their cult following.
LOVE this!!!! The 2016 offering is going to be a hoot! Can't wait to hear his take on the Clinton/Trump debate-that is going to be hilarious!!!! And Cunk and Shitpeas are always so funny.
What I love about this show is its ability to first talk about the child abuse scandal with our ex PM and then move on quickly to a aimless TV show about sheep herding where Tony Blackburn loves the cuddles. Brilliant!
***** Is feminism synonymous of left wing? Feminism is laughable at best, some of the shit they come out with is on par with the biffers. I can't tell the difference between any of our news channels, to be honest.
+ShitPosting.exe The crucial thing to remember is that it's only pandering when you don't like it. The next time you see 'The BBC' disagreeing with you, it might be, just might be, because one of the largest publicly-mandated news broadcasting services on the planet is well-informed on the issue and you're not. And it is strange how the comment chain started on Muslims and you managed to bring feminism into it.
+ShitPosting.exe I agree. Most of the BBCs staff are metropolitan progressives. Sure some of the high up staff may be conservative but most of its staff will be left leaning. However hard they try to be balanced they will always naturally veer toward the "progressive" stance. There is very little of their output that can be considered right leaning. The comedy is incredibly political and left leaning, but then comedy in the UK seems to be left leaning by default.
The whole bit about the Syrian refugees turning out to be real people all along reminded A LOT of that Black Mirror ep...spoiler alert: "Men Against Fire". Wonder if Charlie got the idea from that.
Do you know what this program teaches us? It is to ignore all the bullshit in the news, create your own opinion about things and to make up your own mind. Maybe then people would be less scared of everything because they would have a sense of perspective and no prejudice. (I realise that I've just offered my own opinion so you don't have to take my advice either).
+staminapromos I never thought of it that way, but you're right. People are sucked into the fear-mongering, facetious crap that we read or hear about, and they ruin their days feeling miserable, angry and demotivated.
