Spencer is and will always be my favorite survivor character. Everything from his distifunctional tribe, to his play from the bottom, even till the end, he was always smart and good with all the opportunities given to him
I feel the same way! My first season of Survivor I watched second chance, and when I watched it as a nine year old kid, I naturally loved Spencer as he shares a first name with me (and 9 year olds get so excited whenever someone shares a name lol) I was crushed when he didn't when Cagayan. After watching Cambodia I was an even bigger fan of him. He is amazing
That's like being in love with the Cleveland Browns, the symbol of always losing and never doing anything to remember. America's always loves a winner. Are you from Spain?
True and it shows how great he was socially and strategically because he was such a challenge beast but that is indeed the most underrated part of his game because the other parts were so great.
@@thebigboofer3826 If you’re going to be a challenge beast, don’t look like a challenge beast. It helps you get further and that’s what happened with Spencer. Good on him.
Spencer is so lucky he was on the bottom the whole game because when he’s on the top of an alliance he is a massive villain and would not be as well liked for sure. That being said Spencer is one of my favorite players and I usually root for villains.
Spencer was such a great character he was always on the chopping block and somehow managed to make it to the end both of his seasons. The greatest underdog in survivor history
The funniest part about Spencer's iconic quote "Kass.. zero chance of winning the game" is Tony's hilarious facial expressions making fun of him 😂 I didn't even notice it until my 3rd rewatch and now every time I see that clip it's all I see and I laugh every time lol
Spencer is in my top 5 favorite survivor players. He has the big 3 of being strong mentally, physically and strategically. He can get arrogant, and doesn't put his faith in the right people, but he plays a good game, fights hard, and never gives up it's a shame all the bad luck he would have. I would definitely like to see him play for a third time.
Fun fact that maybe a lot of big survivor fans don’t know. Garrett Adelstein is one of the top poker players in the world and truly a nice and solid person all around. This was probably the worst he’s ever done at anything in his entire life.
Same goes for J'tia, she graduated early out of high school and was the first black woman to get a PhD in her university Also to add on Garrett, he graduated class valedictorian(he does tell this to the audience) and graduated summa cum laude(with highest honors) They're smart but clearly they are not up for survivor
As much as I cheered for Spencer, looking back I realized he behaved pretty immaturely. The way he talked to Woo in his final tribal speech was incredibly condescending and disrespectful. Sure it’s not worst thing ever on survivor, but pretty classless
He mocks him pretty relentlessly in confessionals too, which always rubbed me the wrong way as well. Like you said, far from the worst thing on Survivor, but Woo just seems so easygoing and harmless that it reflects poorly on Spencer. His "zero chance of winning this game" quote is also so whiny, though there I can at least understand being in the heat of the moment and seeing Kass seemingly obliterate both her own and his game for no logical reason.
@@Rodanguirus and he had the gall to ask for Woo to align with him and sherin in episode 2 of game changers. If I’m Woo I’d be like “are you kidding me? After you called me a dog?”
@@Rodanguirus tbf to Kass, the move did put her in a bit of a better position long term. If she wasn't such an asshole to everyone after the fact, she could've parlayed that move into a gikd FTC if she made it.
It is absolutely amazing to me that they didn't even plan the theme. That it just happened to work out that way that they were able to split into them THREE separate groups, and that the teams were even and everything. (Yes, I learned this from the Cagayan secrets video on this channel lmao) but seriously like what are the odds of that working out?
I utterly adore Spencer, he and Tony were my absolute favs from Cagayan and I adore watching them play. Spencer is a perfect mix of smart, challenge beast, and endearingly awkward, such a crush on him when I first watched! Also his speech at the final tribal is one of my all time favorite moments. I kind of like his cockiness 😅 it’s fun to watch
4:30 I can't help but think how differently the entire game may have played out if J'tia just did the puzzle quick enough, or if they put someone else on the puzzle who could do it in time. If memory serves, I believe it would've been the beauty tribe who lost, one of them would've gone, brains would've had a bit of momentum to go with.. the entire season could've gone completely differently.
He wrote a personal blog or something and it had a lot of antivaxx talking points in it. Also you could tell whoever wrote it just has a huge ego and thinks they’re smarter than they actually are. It makes sense now that Kass was so annoyed by him.
After recent things he's said, I don't consider myself a fan of his anymore. However, his runs on Cagayan and Cambodia were both very entertaining, and I do respect aspects of his game.
Honestly I sometimes wonder if J'tia pouring the rice actually SAVED her bc think about it.. they were all annoyed at Garrett for being so dumb about things, but then the rice being poured out was caused directly by him telling J'tia she's going. She wouldn't have done it if he didn't do that. And so even though she did it.. he was kind of at blame, and since they were already pissed at him for trying to control everyone, it pushed them even further toward him.
quick question: if Spencer was in the final two with Tony, who wins? i think Spencer could win because most of the jury were mad at Tony. Tony wins against woo or kass but against Spencer I'm pretty sure Tony loses.
I’d argue Tony only won because of Spencer on the jury, so if he was in the final two with him, it’s possible he would be the more like able option and he could definitely back up his game as a smart player with multiple challenge wins. Plus, he could also paint the Charlie Brown narrative himself.
This final 2 never could've happened. I'm quite sure that despite his spiel at the final 4 tribal council, Spencer had no intention of taking Tony to final 2. He had showed too much respect for Tony lying on the names of his children to then turn around and pretend he'd be selfless and honorable; you'd have to be foolish to believe him. And obviously, Tony knows better than to take Spencer to final 2 when he could just take an easy win against whichever of Woo or Kass makes it there.
@@hauntedhaunter6148 After the season ended, all the jury said they were already voting for Tony beause, what were they gonna do, vote for Woo? Spencer only added fuel to the massive fire.
@@BadLuckBoi after the season people say a lot of things. Usually to prove a point. Usually also orchestrated by the producers. If you watch that tribal council, Tony did horribly, Woo didn’t do much better, but everyone was mad at Tony and not mad at Woo.
Cagayan has to be the best season of survivor. It was the first one I watched and the craziest to say the least. So many memorable players and so many twists. So good.
The title of this video gave me a huge chuckle because I JUST finished watching this season for the first time and I made the same charlie brown comparison the 3rd time Kass betrayed him lmao
Rewatching Cagayan is so fun, but the more I see of it the more I realize that Woo is quite possibly the most clueless person to get to the final tribal in recent survivor history. That man had 1 brain cell and 2 paddles and they were just ping-ponging that shit all game long
Been really enjoying the podcasts you do with Mary and Rebecca, and heard you all refer to Owen and Jake as "Charlie Brown". I couldn't recall the details about Spencer's experience, so I wasn't sure about the title. It blew my mind how much the three of them are iterations of each other!
He could have talked with Woo and Kass about flipping on Tony since they were thinking of doing that at f6, but he Tony had that f4 idol trick so aside from talking to Tony more, I don’t think there was much of a choice for Spencer.
This was my first season and he was instantly my favorite. He is still my favorite survivor player and I really enjoyed this video. I hope they made another Hero Vs. Villains season with Spencer on heros.
currently rewatching this season and I can say that he definitely tried a little too hard to be funny at times. He knew what was going on but he felt it was necessary to say it too often... telling cass she had no chance to win when she flipped, little condescending things here and there... I'm sure he could clean that part of his game up with age. Spencer saying garett was a moron for trying to stifle conversations but the other people should have just backed him up at that point. it served the same purpose as lying to jtia and she never has the chance to pour the rice out as she's never alone... so he kinda retroactively looks smart IMO. Them voting him out was among the dumbest moves in survivor history IMO. Spencer arguing that if there is another immunity challenge if they vote him out they'll certainly lose is irrelevant honestly because it's 3 and they just vote jtia out. Not fully irrelevant if she has an idol or whatever but pretty irrelevant. Bad argument.
i loved spencer and tasha. apparently they weren’t as close as it looked but they’re one of my fav duos they just supported each other and i got brother and sister vibes from them
Spencer has had some of the worst luck in survivor history, but he was always at his best when he was playing from the bottom. That's why he's one of my favorites like Jeff said even though nothing went right for Spencer he never gave up. I believe the best players aren't the one who dominate and have everything go their way (ex-Rob in 22 or Kim in 23), they're the ones who can adapt when things go wrong.
Bro Spencer was one of the most unlucky players I can remember, it felt like he would always make good decisions but he was always dealt a shit hand so it didn’t matter
Tasha made the mistake that cost her game when she didn’t try for the advantage at the auction. Her and Spencer are on the bottom together and making the odds 2 out 3 in their favor against Tony could have saved them. Too bad cause I like John of them.
My favorite character probably as Cagayan was the first season I watched and of the Underdog story which I always love to root for. Unfortunately in Cambodia although making the final 3 his earlier game and social game hindered his way to winning. I believe in Cagayan he could have possibly either A. Convince Woo and Kass to Vote Tony "out" at final 5 flushing his super idol (obviously not knowing about the power but then because he won immunity it would come down to Either Kass, Woo, Or Trish and most likely Trish goes home as its a 3v1 and if he does not win immunity the next challenge (preferably he does) he convinces Kass and Woo to vote out Tony as Tony no longer has the Idol works. And finally, win the Final immunity which I can see him Winning!
Tony showed he had another idol besides the super idol at 5 and he played it even though he got no votes he wasn't going anywhere even if Spencer did try to strike at him which would then let him still do his super idol bluff
I understand that Spencer was pissed off when he was voted out, i mean he NEVER really got a break at all this season, he was always on the bottom throughout the game, he had a to do a lot of scrambling, win a lot of challenges, he was the only one who really was able to play onto Tony's paranoia, and then to come up 48 hours short of making it to the end. Yeah i understand why he's pissed off, and i would've wanted him to win more than Tony. Tony was my 2nd pick just because of his Immunity Idol finding and his Spy Shack! I'm sure that If Spencer made it to the Final Tribal Council, he would've won in any of the following scenarios Won against Tony 8-1 Vote Won Against Woo 8-1 Vote Won Against Kass In a Unanimous Vote 9-0
How is Spencer's statement on Cass a "sexist remark" yet when Cass says "of course he played the idol for himself, who's more arrogant than a 21 year old male", that isn't? C'mon, if you are going to say one is then both are. Not that I agree that either comment was inherently sexist at all
I would LOVE to see the full unedited footage of Tasha, Kass, and Sarah talking when it appears that Tasha is just being a total btch toward Kass.. idk the whole scene felt so weird to watch and it felt out of character the way Tasha was acting. I just wonder if the editing made it seem different, to go along with Kass's confessional afterwards when she was pissed. Idk but either way I'd still like to see how that full conversation went lol
Everyone talks about Wentworth's from the bottom game in Cambodia (and rightfully so), Spencer arguably did it better this season. Had he played his idol correctly for Jeremiah, he probably wins the whole season.
Cagayan was the first season I ever saw, and I LOVED him. The whole rest of my family actually hated him so much and I couldn't figure out way. 2 years later, i finally understand. edit: I also HATED tony, and now he is one of my favorites.
21:20 ummm there actually has been a second advantage at the auction in I think caramoan or south pacific (one of Cochran's seasons I'm pretty sure) they had one idol and one advantage and everyone was shocked that there was a second. And those seasons were fairly recent then so Tasha wasn't being ridiculous for thinking there may be another.
Pretty great competitor and entertaining to watch in his runs on the show. But after hearing some of his personal opinions and conspiracy theories after the show, I'm glad this guy never ended up as sole survivor.
Next, do Tori Mehan, Denise Stapely from Winners at War, and a comparison of Amber Brkich from A.O, All Stars, and Winners at War, and Sue Hawk as well
Kass pissed me off so much this season it's unreal and it's no wonder no one liked her when she got to Ponderosa. How could you betray everyone in the game and somehow expect to win votes on the jury? It's totally unreal. And the 'sexism' angle she leans on to justify her behavior is such a weak cope that I can't believe she actually believes it.
