I would LOVE it if they released the "raw footage" of Christian in the challenge talking to Jeff. That would be interesting to watch, but kudos to the guy for sticking it out for the win. His mastery of the challenges is obvious but his weakness is in making the assumption everyone is friends with him till they are not. Ultimately what I love about him is the fact that he may be a little socially awkward, speaks his mind, but he genuinely means well!
Most people are socially awkward so seeing someone else who is helps. I think Christian's weakness is being too likable. There is no way to downplay his smarts, especially in a season with this theme. No way to hide his mastery of puzzles that help his tribe win challenges. He's insanely personable because he can talk to anyone and seems to find some common ground with everyone. He could easily be the male Cirie Fields if he comes back enough times.
When gabby revealed she was gonna blindside Christian is literally made my jaw drop. And her subsequent failure and removal from the game made it even better. Truly one of the more memorable arcs in survivor.
So dumb and rash. Who did she think was going to bring her to final three - Nick, Kara and Angelina? Or even Mike? Bad Move. She saw Christian's Girlfriend, and her paranoia started to make her question if his previous affection was all an act. Plus she was probably jealous of the both of them. She made is clear in her confessional that seeing his GF was the motivator - not bringing up her own mom/boyfriend, but making her statement about Christian's GF and the affection between them. Of course people are going to read into that. And of Course she was going to deny her motives were emotional.
Yeah players from seasons 35 til present & since it would be a 2nd Chance or All stars type season maybe make it 32 days with 18 people then go back to 26 days 16 survivors for normal seasons
As much as I absolutely adore Christian, he did a poor job of managing his threat level. Im sure everyone knew pretty early on that hes super smart and strategic, so he became the biggest threat for the entire post merge. Its a miracle he survived that long using idols and advantages. Adam Klein in contrast did a great job managing his threat level (partly by making alot of mistakes)
Excellent take. Honestly, with new school Survivor managing your threat level is becoming just as important as jury management. Christian had the jury eating out of his palms, however, it was no secret that the jury was eating out of his palms.
Christian shouldn't have revealed the reason why he did that Marooning puzzle so fast. That shocked everyone and put them all in high alert even before they started to get to know each other. Christian could also have made some calculated "mistakes" to lower his threat level. I think he was too smart and personable which doesn't bode well for any returns.
I don’t think there’s another season with as many memorable characters as DvG. Natalie, Carl, Nick, Mike, Angelina, Davey, Christian, Gabby, Johnny, Alec and Kara are all memorable in their own way. What a season!
Crazy that you missed possibly Christian's biggest blunder of the season: having a girlfriend. If he was a single man, Gabby wouldn't have turned on him and he wouldn't have had to vote out his ally in the second to last tribal he was in.
@@philtess3126 Yeah, but she literally only realized this/ changed her mind cuz she saw Christian had a gf. That's not even an assumption, it's almost a direct quote from her confessional during the loved one's visit.
@@pewpewpandas9203 please get a quote or a time stamp of the episode cause I honestly don't Believe you right now, since I watched the show for the 3rd time yesterday and I never noticed anything. What I can tell you though is that in podcasts, Christian said it multiple times that he spoke about his girlfriend to the other casts. I'm pretty sure you're just getting fooled by the edit.
Honestly, I've always thought that Christian wouldn't have been seen as such a threat if it weren't for Cochran putting "nerds" on the map as threats/mega-players in Survivor. SO he could've made it further and eventually, won.
Possibly, but the game itself has also changed around the time Cochran won. Post merge challenges started to become a lot more endurance or puzzle related. Pre merge would always have some sort of puzzle at the end. Then players just became smarter and more knowledgable of the game.
Did Gabby have feelings for Christian? When she saw him with his gf she flipped a switch and wanted Christian gone like she almost took it personally that he was in a relationship.
No, that was manipulative editing. According to the cast Christian talked about his gf frequently and everyone knew about her, but they didn’t show any of that in the show.
@@MK-ui6gt Someone talking about their gf and actually seeing them together are very different. It's easy to ignore when there's just talk. But actually *seeing* that love and affection stomps any attempted denial into the dirt.
I also enjoyed how the Brochachos weren't too sour after getting out-maneuvered. Good on them for being classy and not leaving on a sour note. Unless I missed something, of course.
Ah Christian Hubicki, the sex symbol of Survivor DvG. Christian is in my Mount Rushmore of favorite castaways but I hate the fact he turned on Carl after Carl saved him. And for Gabby of all people. He did deserve to go down for it but I do hope he comes back, learns from his mistakes and pulls a victory. Cochran lost his cool nerd spot to Christian.
It was a smart play, and a rational one. Carl commanding people was rubbing them the wrong way. He knew Carl would need to go. His mistake was not talking to Nick about it too and attempting to get him on board with the vote. Blindsiding Nick was his mistake, not voting Carl out.
I feel like in all the analysis videos I've seen, including this one, didn't interpret this edit the same way I did. To me the edit felt like Gaby saw Christian with his gf and all of a sudden decided she wanted to turn on him in what appeared to be a crazy early time to do so (especially since the edit didn't make it look like she had another alliance to jump to if her vote out worked). Also, I don't think you brought up the "smart" of how he would go on these crazy long winded answers with Jeff at tribal as a way to completely avoid Jeff's question without him noticing which is probably his smartest and most revolutionary move in the game.
Without actually talking to those who edited the story themselves, all I can do is interpret these stories through my eyes to best understand what they are trying to say about each player. His long winded answers that didn't actually answer Jeff's questions were indeed smart.
I feel like Christian trapped himself in a corner with his threat level + overall jury likability. If (more like WHEN) he'll play again, he'll just have to manage those aspects (have more awareness), but I could definitely see him winning a FvF or Second Chance season because of his nerdy charm, great strategy, and ability to win out challenges or have bonds to keep him in the game when people come tot heir senses and realize he's such a big threat. Also, Angelina is the main character.
Exactly what I thought. I'm showing this to my friend as his first season to watch and he's loving it. I think I'm either going to show him China next, maybe Tocantins or MvGX if the low quality bothers him. I feel like you need to understand the ins and outs of Survivor to appreciate the mayhem of Cagayan
Comparisons to Cochran are inevitable, but Christian was definitely the smartest person to play the game (that is, to apply his academic knowledge to the game itself, i.e. individual challenges, short-term strategy). Cochran had the advantage of playing twice and clearly proved to be a better end-game strategist (in addition to winning a double brace of immunities in the second half of the game)
Not arguing that it didn't paint a target on him, but him saying he created algorithms could be a way to guarantee safety for any challenge with a puzzle.
Christian is one of my all time favorite Survivor characters. I always thought Gabby was more into Christian then he was into her. That seemed evident when Christian's girlfriend showed up and Gabby suddenly realized she had to vote Christian out. Gabby came off to me like someone who thought she had been played so she decided she'd take Christian out. Then her big move against Christian backfires and she ends up being voted out. Hilarious.
This is probably the shining jewel season in the last ten seasons through the 30's. Just a really good cast and Christian became an instant classic. Really fun, awkward yet charismatic in a way, very intelligent. But his social awkwardness and surprising skill and intelligence allowed him to be a big threat and he didn't help himself by not managing that early. Otherwise he might have been able to keep that target off him longer. That being said he was very smart and patient and could see Gabby was definetly soft hearted and anxious and was patient with her keeping her level headed when he could. And that's a show of true compassion which made him very likable. But damn he owes his life to that idol play. And the fact they never considered split voting. Plus the davids getting plenty of crucial advantages to turn it around, brilliant. But Carl and Gabby kinda went stupid. Clearly Gabby is a very frail personalitied person, whatever experiences made her that way, or she was always kinda frail but she cries at things that normally would just get people frustrated, she clearly has anxiety and confrontation issues. And Carl suddenly got an ego once they overtook the Goliaths thinking he was the boss despite all the important items that got there came from others. Apparently he didn't realize Gabby is still needed for atleast one more vote to make their lead a two person lead, so leaving her out couldn't effect anything.... why did all the smart people suddenly forget simple math? Just needed to wait one more tribal and things would have been smoother. And then gabby actually suddenly grows a spine and guns for Christian. Was it because she realized she had no shot as a GF, probably not but it's funny to think that. But Christian did what he could but knew he didn't have enough to save himself without the idol and irronically took out Gabby despite her starting the idea. Christian, is actually a beast player, but it's his big brain, excellent challenges performances, generally likable personality(And some luck) that made him a strong contender for winner had he made it to final three. Sucks he didn't win despite all the moves he had to make, but smart move by the others to see he had a very strong chance of winning(practically guarenteed actually) and took him out with their last chance.
Ive said for years that they dumped Carl way too early... you had the numbers why give it up... I think thats where Christain lost the game... i was dumb.. a major case of big moveits,,, but big flashy moves don't win. Smart moves win.
Christian was such a unique character that actually felt honest, like he wasn’t playing it up for the camera but rather this is who he really is. It’s endearing. I think his biggest flaw was turning on his alliance so early. He had no one to go back to after that. It was a big move but was ill timed.
I remember seeing this season’s trailer and thought to myself, “I should try watching Survivor”. Little did I know i’m up for a crazy season! From the moment I started watching DvG, to the time I finished watching Survivor 41, I realized that DvG was the reason I became addicted to this show. DvG will always have a special place in my heart.
It’s a new meta in the game that when it comes to final seven / final 8 you have everybody looking at the biggest threats and targeting them, to a point where even if your best ally in the game is with you you have to consider getting them out (like Aus survivor Luke/Pia, Shan/Ricard recently, Christian in this season or Alec also in this season, or Elaine from 39). Kelly too during second chance. It’s those giant threats where you go, you’d be insane not to vote them out. There’s a lot to be said about showing that you have a strong strategic mind, that you influence the game, and having a good awareness of the situation, like what the season 41 winner had vs what the runner up lacked, while trying to limit your perceived threat level or manage meat shields in the game and ensuring they go when you need them to.
Just re-watched this season and the entire thing from start to finish puts season 41 in the dirt - and I enjoyed season 41 - but going back and watching David and Goliath made me double think about how “good” 41 really was
Wow Gabby doesn't seem very smart after all. She's overly emotional, she cries about not fitting in with the group at that age, and she gets her closest ally to vote with her against her own team just because she didn't like that someone else brought up the vote target instead of her. To top it all off, she betrays her closest ally out of, presumably, jealousy only to get voted out instead.
I have a theory. Gabby thought she had a romantic advantage or relationship forming with Christian. I think she thought that there was some thing there and then when she saw him with his girlfriend and realized that wasn’t true she was jealous or felt betrayed. I think the “true love” moment seemed a little insincere to me like she didn’t know he was in a relationship and that she thought he had a thing for her and she was special. So the blindside was pure jealousy and emotion instead of anything strategic or had anything to do with “playing her own game”. Maybe? 🤔
Cristian was by far my favorite of the season, by a mile. A few of them that I couldn't even stand to watch them on screen were: Angelina and Natalie. Pure cringe. I fast forwarded through jacket-gate. Most of this cast were horrible from start to finish. Mike, I liked Mike too. He was a cool cat. The cast of this season was 98% forgettable. Not even a single good looking woman on this season. I know that's a kind of faux pas observation, but normally there are at least 1 or 2 pretty women, this season.... None
I'm with you, Dr. Hubicki is the best of the best. I never grow tired of listening to him ramble, it is so entertaining. He is truly one of a kind....they'll never find another one quite like him. Thanks for the video, it was great!
He was absolutely brilliant. He made me want to continue watching. He’s a Legend.❤thank you for the time you put in to making these videos. Each one is a masterpiece. I subbed because everything you put together is 👌🙏🏽.
Christian is so intelligent but he fell for the age old trap of aligning with a snake and not realizing that a snake can’t help but bite. Once gabby started having meltdowns and rants over random ppl every week, he should have made a F2 with Nick, Davie, John, even Alec and targeted Gabby, cut the head off the snake and moved on.
I will simply never understand why Christian blindsided Nick and Davie in the vote against Carl. It seemed like he didn't even talk to either them at all, very strange that he thought they would be ok with no being let in on the move
@@sarahs3429 She also said in her confessional that seeing Christian's GF was THE motivating factor for her. Not making it about her, her mom/boyfriend, but making her statement around Christians GF and the affection between them. A bit weird.
If Probst hadn't gotten bent on leaving late 30s players in the dust, Christian would've been as big an icon as Boston Rob, Coach, and Cirie. And Gabby was clearly a beautiful young woman. I still don't know if it was production trying to make her look nerdy, or if she genuinely didn't know.
We may not have even gotten Davie on this season. Only reason he got on was because 72 hours before the game started Jared, Cirie’s son, dropped out and he was going to be on the Goliath tribe. They moved Alec from being a David to a Goliath, then Davie was brought onto the cast.
Watching this after the end of Survivor 44. If they do not somehow find a theme where Christian Hubicki and Carson Garrett are on the same tribe then the franchise needs new management.
Christian is definately a smart & eloquent player. Unfortunately he has no wisdom who listened to the bullshit of Gabby & voted off one of his alliance. And what happened ? Gabby going to vote him off in the next tribal council. Even though she was not successful , he ended up being voted off by his enemies & more importantly his alliance the next tribal council after Gabby was voted off. . Moral of the story : never listen to the bullshit of a woman who is a crap trouble maker with no substances. And not only I am disappointed but inside my heart I am laughing at him. He does have more balls than brain.
I went to elementary school with Christian, we were in the same class in second grade I think it was? I was always in awe of how smart he was, even back then! Lol
So what happens if you have personal instances in your past that may cause increased stress when prompted with a question? (For example, if there was domestic violence growing up, wouldn’t the polygraph show me as being dishonest on questions about domestic violence?)
Thank the Survivor Gods this season was on Netflix so I could see it for the 1st time. In preparation for season 40 I was watching all the season 40 contestants' winning seasons and DVG was the only one I didn't get to.
I am a complete noobie and I've only seen the generally understood as best seasons and already i need to ask There's no objective reasoning NOT to do another 2nd chances right? Right?
If he and Davie Flipped Alison - which could simply be done by telling her that Christian had an idol, and that meant a stray flyaway vote could land on most likely her, davie, or gabby (Allison was allied with Gabby) - then the 3 (davie, allison, Christian) could have blindsided nick at the perfect moment. Also remind Allison that Angelina hates her, and Angelina would be next. In Alternate Universe, it would have gone this way. Too bad Paranoia from Gabby's betrayal and Starvation broke Christian's spirit
