As brilliant as this scene is Chaplin was not happy with it and didn’t want to watch the film at all for many years. The reason is that he had worked very long to perfect the scene and the best takes were badly scratched in the film lab. Chaplin was forced to reshoot and these resulting scenes never quite matched the previous damaged scenes. Thank you.
@@chrismiller520 it was the scene on the high wire with the monkeys. I agree the movie is a masterpiece. It was painful to charlie for the footage to be damaged. Today the scratches might be removed digitally. I know Chaplin stored his negatives in a vault. Did he save the damaged film?
I remember laying on the floor with my son - probably 8 years old - watching this Chaplin film and both of us just belly-laughing. It still cracks me up.
He learned how to walk the tightrope especially for this movie, he loved doing his own stunts. The lion cage scene is also 100% real. CGI etc wasn't around In those days.

Чарлі Чаплін сумел удержаться даже з обезьянами на проволоке . Вот так циркач сразу видно висоти не боїться . Я так не смог . Невероятно первий раз такое вижу и задолся вопросом , как Чаплін так может .
