Yes, in my opinion, Charlie should've been invited to the Opry a long time ago. But don't bash Martina. It was as much of an honor for her to give Charlie the invite as it was for him to receive it.
$20 bucks and the clutch out on his car... When he came to Nashville, prime example of gumption determination ,will power and a little bit of skill will get you a good life. RIP Charlie
July 6 2020 The Man passed away a true friend I country music legend and a musical icon we love you and we sure do miss you South Carolina always love you we were there the nachi was inducted into the Grand Ole and I wish I'd have been there when you were inducted in the country music Hall of Fame I will see you again I love you Kenny Spartanburg
Can't believe it's taken this long. Carrie Underwood, and BTW, I love her, was inducted in short order. Charlie is a legend. Would love to know what the criteria is for receiving the invitation?!! Anyway, Congratulations, Charlie!! You certainly deserve it!! Love your pro-America songs. We sure do need them nowadays!!
The reason Charlie had not become a member sooner was that he had to perform a certain amount of performances at the grand all Opry but Charlie toured almost year-round so that his fans could hear his music. He would have received do you invitation again earlier but he would have rather played for all of us to hear his music Christian peace Charlie.
over due! i dont know if i would have takin it if i was him. he has alway been there for america... sorry im kinda mad it took them this long. keep rocking Charlie true fans will aways honor you in our harts
@BitterWaterTunnel, don't worry they will have their day also look at how long it took Charlie Daniels and that was long over due. Their are alot of good country singers.

I love country music (all eras) old and new. The strange thing about country music, really all music is that at 1point n time there was always something older than what is being played at that present time. 2 say 1 era is better than the other is a major njustice 2 all musicians (n this case country musicians). Charlie, Hank, Roy love the new members as much as the old ones because they were there at one time 2. Country music knows no age diff.Old or New its all country and they are all family.
Don't understand the bashing about Carrie Underwood's induction to the Opry. Carrie has sold about 12 MILLION albums, has 12 #1 hits, has won 10 ACM Awards including back-to-back Entertainer-of-the-Year. Do you know how FEW country artists have match or exceeded those achievements? Carrie is a wonderful spokesperson for country music and she will be the next queen of Country Music!
We should celebrate all people's accomplishments not just the ones that you like - I have a story about Charlie Daniels - my friends were playing a gig at a festival and Charlie was intown playing somewhere heard about the festival and came down to play with my friends band who are quite good - Myfriend said to Charlie when he wanted to borrow his fiddle "I only have a $80 bow, Charlie says that's OK I have a $20 bow.
@TheWBarry - Most major awards have been around for a long time, 30+ yrs. So, Carrie's wins are comparable to past artists. Someone winning many in a short time could be in part due to lack of competition. As for today's country, some of Carrie's songs are like Shania's, so this 'style' has been around for awhile. Agree that some recent Opry inductees were too soon (e.g. C. Morgan, J. Turner); not saying that aren't very good artists. Inductions should be based on accomplishments, not years.
People seem to forget that Charlie and the CDB only played Music with the fans not the awards people need to be more respect full of the Grandel Opry or what they did know how long it took to get him in there he was asked mini years ago yeah he would join but he couldn’t Play all the performances at the Ryman that were required at that time he wanted to play on the road because after all on the road his were all of his fans could hear their music he’s gone to heaven now to play with those there in life performances, Rest In peace old friend
sunshare, there is no room for haters in country music. Charlie & Hank would cringe at your hate towards the "new inductees". Country music is inclusive of everyone, and requires a commitment by the artist (read previous comments).
Induction into the Grand Ole Opry is not just about country music but dedication to the Opry itself. It's an agreement between an artist and the institution that you be there to support the Opry for the rest of your life. Brad Paisley, Carrie Underwood, Josh Turner deserve it because they will be big stars for years to come and will support the Opry always. Maybe Faith Hill and Tim McGraw are not members of the Opry because they won't commit to it. It's much more than being a country star.
The video should of continued on through the song he played after he receives the invitation...I bet he jammed out! time to search you tube for it....lol
wow I love always going to the Opry .. it breaks my heart when I am so far away from Nashville .. beautiful great people on and off the "Circle" ... so many great memories ..
Agreed. They need ALOT less Carrie and ALOT more of the other talented arists. Charlie, Martina, Reba just to name a few. I thought this was called the Grand Ole Opry youtube Channel not he Carrie Underwood at the Opry channel. So sick of it.
JohnMagillM One requirement of being an Opry member is that you have to play the Opry stage a certain number of times each year, which wouldn't be possible for Hank Williams because he passed away in 1953.
I thnk its the fact, that others like mark chesnutt and tracy lawerence got shoved aside for the carrie underwoods and taylor swifts, Its more about being popular then it is the music anymore, soon as taylor comes out with a song it automatically gets nomiated.I just think taylor shows shes more in it for the fame, then the music, Untill she shows some respect for others in country, ill never like her
He was a member and they could'nt keep him out of Tootsies long enough to play on the nights that he was supposed to. They used to have to go get him out of the bar for him to perform. The Opry finally got tired of it. I guess that he would have continued to be a member if he hadn't been such a drunk!
