Charley sang a song that he hadn't rehearsed live on stage, he had to have someone print out the lyrics... he did it because I told him it was my wife and I's anniversary and it was her favorite song. That is the kind of guy Charley Pride was. The fact that covid stole this wonderful man away from us breaks my heart. We will ALWAYS love you Charley... thank you for the music my friend.

I had the joy to see him in Branson Mo and I knew almost every song he sang and I sang quietly with him . I started dating my husband in 1971 he put a player in his car I told him I would buy some music. I bought Charles Pride Tammy Wynette and Loretta Lynn. We would ride around and listen to them over and over. We got married had 3 kids and in 1983 he was killed in a car wreck . I was 30 and so scared and heartbroken when my kids went to bed I would listen to music it seem to help but by that time I loved Conway Twitty so I have several of his CDS. Rest In Peace Mr Charly Pride , Conway Twitty and of course the big Elvis. There are so many more but I can’t put all of them on here but I still listen to all of you and it makes my heart feel good because it brings back memories of me dating my first. husband the father of my children and it’s a good memory. Thank all of you so much you will never be forgotten

Charlie's mother-in-law lived across Highway 6 from me in Oxford, MS in 1979. She was a great story teller and wonderful personality. She (Mama) lived in a 3 room sharecropper house where she and her husband raised several children while farming 300 acres of cotton. The house is still there and has doubled in size. Although I am white ... she welcomed me into her home where we had several visits.

Well I guess right now I'm older than any of you 77 closer to 78. My grandparents sugarcane and they themselves picked it. They raised everything they ate nearly the cotton sail went for modern mattresses back then coffee sugar and flour the rest of it as far as I know they raised if they didn't raise it they didn't eat it. My mother picked cotton there was no one in the parish that was poor and my daddy and his family. They nearly starved to death. They had no shoes in the winter and on occasion and they wanted to they went to school the dead of winter breaking eyes with their bear feet .
@fayee8986
@fayee8986 6 месяцев назад
Their daddy living but deserted them their mother had a nervous breakdown and was unable to care for the children today defended themselves best they could. How they make bandage to live I don't know. Here I come during the last years of World War II daddy made managed to miss the war because he was needed, still poor you have to live without. His talent was on the end of a shovel LOL my mother pick cotton also and it was just as hot on the whites as it was on the blacks just about everybody in the South was poor and at the verge of starvation most of them never got out of property but did work and worked hard!!!.. yes you got very serious trouble if you weren't able to work.
@fayee8986
@fayee8986 6 месяцев назад
I remember my grandmother washing clothes by hand across the road near their house and a ditch with homemade soap. In the death of hot sun and the hot summers of the South they worked and the brutal winners yes the winners were extremely cold cuz it's wet. They worked getting up before daylight milking feeding chickens taken care of the other animals and getting ready for the field. My grandmother work right besides my grandfather all day learn to cook on the wood stove without burning the house down. Came in for dinner rested about an hour and went back to the field till dark eating leftovers are cornbread and milk for supper nearly every day and was very thankful for it!
@fayee8986
@fayee8986 6 месяцев назад
I will stop here to keep from boring new to death. My sad mistreating story is. We were all poor to the Bone and the South even in the 50s a few years after the war. White people knew how to do without I still be thankful they had what little they had work very hard eating dirt all day. And pick cotton.!!! Oh by the way they were too poor to have a radio!!... I never heard any one of them complain R belly ache not one time!!! Did not have a car horse and buggy went to town on the back roads in the early fifties. The point of my story is white people also done without in hard times , you worked all you didn't eat!! I remember going to school barefooted myself and I wasn't the only white kid that didn't have any shoes. I remember being hungry woke up hungry and went to bed hungry. You don't have to be black to be hungry you don't have to be black to pick cotton or do any kind of Labor you don't even have to be black you have to work to eat. Just so you know!

Chester Pierce brought a record into the control room where I was on the air, and told me to play it and tell him what I thought of it. I believe that was 1964. It was one of those tunes you knew was going to be a hit as soon as you heard it. That song was the Snakes Crawl at Night, and the singer was a Black Man. It blew me away. I had never heard a Black man sing country music in the true country fashion. What a great Country star He was. RIP Mr Pride. I'm sure your singing for the Angels now.

Linda Martell was the first Black Female country singer on The Grand Ole Opry. Her 1970 lp, Color Me Country was re-released this summer, 2022 on orange vinyl. Linda was on the same record company as Jeannie C.Riley. After "Harper Valley PTA" huge success Linda wasn't receiving much attention and left Nashville!!! Her lp is on ebay.

I remember going to school in the 60's and someone said that song the local radio station is playing, is a black man. I can say no one didn't say anything negative. We just loved his voice and songs he sang.

Love to hear Charlie sing. As a teenager the first song I played on a jukebox was Charlie's Does My Ring Hurt Your Finger. That was in a little diner in Webb City Mo. Loved his voice. Dan

I grew up listening to this legend along with Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, Lynn Anderson and Tammy Wynette. In 2011 we went on a 3600 mile road trip down to the South from our home here in Alberta. One of the highlights was a stop in Nashville where we visited the Ryman Theater. It was so thrilling to stand on the stage where all of these wonderful musicians stood 🌟

My parents went to see him early in his career. They didn’t know he was even black. But they said he told the audience that without them, he would still be picking cotton. They said he received a standing ovations during his performance. I wish i had seen Him perform. He’s one of the best Country Musicians of all time. I just love to hear him sing, it puts a big smile on my face.

My husband and I have always enjoyed listing to Charlie pride and have his albums. He had such a wonderful tone voice. We never knew that he was black until I saw him which did not make any difference to me. He had a very gifted voice, that we all love them and still now. Charlie, thank you for being a role model in baseball and country music. You were the greatest. Betty Gordon, Iowa fan forever.
