my Dad absolutely worshipped him & every New Year’s Eve (if I remember correctly 🤔) we’d have to stand up & have a minute silence for him, now my Dad is up there with him singing his heart out with the best country singer ever xx
Colter Wall, Vincent Neil Emerson, Whiskey Meyers, Orville Peck, Shinyribs, Lukas Nelson. The current generation of country music is actually excellent. You just gotta look around a bit.
I’m with Kid Kasady, there’s some good new stuff out there…… Try Sturgill Simpson, Tyler Childers and many many others that are now called “Red dirt, Texas Country, and Americana” but it’s just “ Real Country” and that’s how it should be labeled.
My uncle (my mom's brother) served in WWII in France and was in an Army barracks with a lot of Southern boys, and had never heard country music before. Well those Southerners had before long turned all those other fellas into country fans, and they would listen to the Opry together on Armed Forces Radio. After my uncle got out of the Army he turned my mom on to country as well. Hank hit the scene after WWII, but my uncle quickly became a big fan (not so easy to do because he lived in New England). My mom was a lover of all kinds of music, including rock 'n' roll and R&B, but always had a special place in her heart for country, and she loved Hank Williams' music. She turned me on to country, and when I learned to play guitar I learned on Hank Williams records and those old song folios. To this day I can still remember how to play all those old songs. How many performers can claim to have as many intergenerational fans as Hank? Not even Sinatra or The Beatles can make that claim.
It's astounding the songs he wrote, and the hits he had. All in only 6 years. So profound people still listen to his music all these years later. There are reaction videos on you tube. With people hearing him for the first time in their lives. They are all blown away with his music.
Grew up listening to Hank Williams, Sr. by listening to him on the radio with my dad. I was so young back then. Hank was only 29 yrs.old when he passed away. gone way too darn soon! His pain had to be unbearable! There will NEVER Ever be another singer, song writer like him!
I’m the same hun I grew up listening to him with my Dad playing his records on his old grammar phone, I got so sick of hearing him & my Dad used to say “ya don’t know good music” lol but now my Dad’s gone 😭 he’d be so proud of me cause I listen to HW Sr all the time now & I finally realise what my Dad meant 😁
Hank Williams was a legend in his own time I was 3 years old when I first heard him sing my uncle played his songs over and over. He had a short tragic life but he also had a very good life even though it was short. He was genuine straight from the Heart. And I have a lot of admiration for this country star. There are a few today we could walk a mile in his shoes. And the legend lives on. Rest in peace Hank Williams 🙏🌹❤️
He presented a very new sound not previously heard. He also posed a physical look for the dust bowl disaster and followed by Woodie Guthrie... Hank opened a new avenue for early American music not previously ever heard. Hank happened at the right time for America!
I remember when i was young my father would always sing along with hank. There are things that you never will forget. Memories will live till you expire.
Hank Williams Sr crossed ALL styles of Music Hank Williams Wrote The Greatest Gospel Greatest COUNTRY, Bluegrass, Folk music, And the Rock and Roll Sound! He Pioneered the premier sounds.... Hank Williams is the godfather of all music
Hank was a good person there's no doubt about it and he never thought that he is a star or better than anyone, that's why fans loved him(and still love him)He was and still is one of them.
HANK WILLIAMS is a Great Man! Crossed All styles of Music Hank Williams Wrote the Greatest Gospel music ever the Greatest Blues Greatest Country music Greatest Bluegrass And the Rock and Roll Sound ! HANK WILLIAMS SR IS THE GODFATHER of All Music 🎵🎶🎵🎶
I was 6 years old, saw him live right in in Westerly RI. I’ll never forget at my uncle funeral they played all of Hanks songs. He love Hank Williams. As did my grandfather.
I know Elvis occupies a cultural space that is hard to beat.... But Hank Williams set the paradigm. He had something that you can't describe. This vid is 100 years old, but a thank you to his daughter Lycretia for offering insights into the man, as he was.
Yeah Elvis was one of a kind...boy so was Hank..Elvis NEVER wrote any songs...but he could sing..but as far as a overall mucisions...Hank was better than the King..
That's because there was no TV, half of america was poorly educated & the next best thing to music when it came to entertainment was picking the bed bugs out of your sibling's hair lol.
@@pimslickins8321 You have to be able to have respect, understanding and appreciation for this music, or just music in general. This is the roots of country. This is Americana. You’re right about one thing, just in the wrong way. It was a different time. There was no rock and roll yet. He wrote from the heart and had a look, sound and style that inspires people to this day. Some music is not for everybody. This is country music, in its rarest, purest, most authentic form. His music was relatable to people. You either get it or not I guess. But, if you’re ever in the south talking badly about artists like Hank Williams and Johnny Cash won’t go over well with many people.
I grew up listening to Hank Williams. My Dad would practice his songs on his guitar and sing his songs. Through the years he got better and better. In his late seventies early eighties he would play and sing Hanks songs and get standing ovations. I couldn’t believe that he sang just like Hank.
'I'm so lonesome I could cry' is one of those very few songs that just makes time stop, and makes your breath stop. Another example for me is, 'Knockin' on heaven's door' by Bob Dylan.
I read the book"sing a sad song"Hanks biography. It's the only book i ever read where i broke down and cried.I said too my self"how can a man do that too him self"?Until i heard the rest of the story.
Mama used to play his records. And sit by the player all night after dad died. 9 years old. I will never forget those images. Even at 50. I can still see and hear it.
Granddad use to listen to his music, he died when I was young, it sucks, I remember him through this music. His favorites (and mine) are honky tonkin and lovesick blues.
What would it have been like had Hank Williams lived longer? Well, he would've remained a country hitmaker, and continued to draw crowds while on the road. Hard to believe it's been more than 60 years since we mourned "The Legend", as he's been called in music circles.
After Hank Williams Death, I feel that the 1959 plane crash with Buddy Holly, Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens deaths was right up there as a Big loss in Music.
@@toyman81 I saw an interview with DION , he was on that winter dance party tour with Buddy Holly, Dion said he could play every hank song there was . Ironic a new york kid schooling the texas native on hank williams.
the funny thing is most people know him for such as love sick blues. which in fact was minstrel song written by a russian and swede for minstrel stage. Emmett Miller did it first and was an astonishing recording. yet the song became Hank Williams. even the video ends with it. yet his actual written hits were far better
WISH COUNTRY MUSIC WOULD BE PERFORMED LIKE HANK WILLIAM WROTE AND SANG HIS HIS SONGS BACK THEN AND NOT LIKE IT IS NOW. HE HAS BEEN MY NUMBER ONE COUNTRY SINGER FOR ME WHEN I FIRST HEARD HIM AND VERY GOOD LOOKING TOO! WHAT AN AMAZING AWESOME SINGER GRAND OPRY OR NOT! HE WAS A NUMBER ONE BRIGHT STAR AND HE JUST KNEW HOW TO ENTERTAIN AND COMMUNICATE WITH HIS FANS AND PROVED IT. REST IN PEACE MR. HANK WILLIAMS.
BEYOND THE SUNSET -- a song about going home. One of the most beautiful and poignant spirituals I've ever heard. We're all going to go beyond the sunset one of these days. "....Oh, blissful morning ..."
The God Lord had an awful lot to do when he created Hank Williams. Williams was overflowing with talent and a voice one in a million. Hanks had an amazing talent that had a single focus. He was able to polish the lens of a human soul with his voice and writings.
Many wonderful artists live for decades. The 50's N early 60's where a big music revolution time in country to rock etc. His death like Marilyn Monroe in 62 not calling her a musician but a movie star to elvis, Janis Joplin etc left us all young. The media kept them in our eyes, ears n minds. More records n reruns of any early movies or tv these icons where in people remember them young at the top of their success. Yes all talented at what they did but if they lived to 85 would they of stayed to be such icons? Doubtful. Hank was enjoyed for music you could easily sing to n guitar players could play his basic classic styled music. That's why he was so loved. You want a hit record? Something others can relate too, are able to sing along to n play at home on piano or guitar. Possibly add a few friends on other instruments. Typical of most Beatles songs.
Wow man I whish i would a been around back then .there's noone can match his body of work or his understanding of human nature .he wasn't afraid to write what he was feeling and he'll it was what everybody was feeling
l Never was an Old country music fan, but That didn't prevent me from seeing Hank as a one of a kind, force in all of music. that went far beyond what had come before, and never will come again in Country music. He was loved and that was something on a personal Basic, NOT just because He was a Star, or his talent. He made the people fell what He felt, and cry with his pain.
Hank Williams could have walked on water, but if he was not going to play the Nashville money game they were bound to get rid of him like others before. It's not what you know in Nashville but how you play the game keeps you alive and healthy till old age.
I recall as a boy, my grandma doing housework, singing Hank's songs. Back in the day, the radio was what most people had, and country was very popular as " cowboy", or, " hillbilly" as it was known back then. So, i was always familiar with Hank's music from childhood. Loved it then, still lovin'it now. I can understand the alcohol for back pain as well, having a lifelong back injury myself. Unless you've lived with a terrible perpetual back injury, you'll never know the agony of daily life, compounded by women and the resultant problems too.. RIP Hank, we all understand what you've conveyed through your music.
i think the pain is where the sound of his soul comes from. i hurt my back in the marine corps and it toughs when people just dont understand chronic pain and doing work. godbless
Anyone's gifted after selling their souls for fame & money. Bioncé has often said "she" can't sing or perform like she wants to unless "she's" on stage, & "Sasha Fierce" enters "her", & takes over. In slow motion, you can see the demon take over, as the body contorts. This is just one of many examples.
Did he sell his soul n u not know it for his fame. That's what they mean. Most big artists have sadly. Then thank god for their awards. Which god? The god of Abraham or Lucifer etc. Oh its real people.
I whole heartily love Hank. My father was a fan too. Hank looked like my Dad or Dad looked like Hank making me love Hank even more. Hank is the best of the best. There will never ever, be another Hank Williams Sr. I hope to meet him in Heaven Someday.
Hank was the greatest songwriter of the 20th Century... So simple, but so complex at the same time.... "The silence of a falling star lights up a purple sky".... WOW!
Sad..A good and humble man.Always gets the best out of me when a man or woman rises above us with talent YET remains humble and kind. Thats what impresses me, THE MOST ! GOD BLESS YOU HANK PS.I LOVE YOUR SONS MUSIC TOO....TAKE CARE
@@darrellmortensen9805 I believe its important to be humble reguardless of stature in life. Its not a sign of weakness to be cool, especially when you know yourself you could always go to fist city IF being a decent person could draw preditorial behaviour from a small percentage of people.kindness doesnt always mean weakness.
I had the honor of seeing Hank III years ago at the Alfred Ag Tech in Wellsville, New York and absolutely loved him. I grew up listening to all the greats, Hank Sr., Kitty Wells, etc. I couldn't get over how much Hank III resembled his Grandfather and sounded so much like him! I got a chance to talk to him and got an autographed picture and the autographs of his band members and purchased the remix of Hank Sr., Hank Jr. and Hank III at his concert and I still listen to it today..... I asked him to autograph it, too and I just love that CD!
I also have the actual stage performance of him doing loves sick blues and is the only known recording of him doing a full show in which he tells jokes and the works. I copied it and burned it listen to it constantly the amazing thing was "we just want to let you all know us and the boys will be out there to sign our song books which are two bits a piece and we will glad to talk to you"
he also says "we just want to let you all know each show we juggle the songs around" so if you come back after the milking contest you wont hear the same ones"
Ah, the original form of documenteries, where after the commercials you didnt have to sit through the insulting recap crap of what you just heard before the commercial. Modern pruductions are so shallow and, well, rude, if you ask me.
hank Williams, what can I say about him one of the best country classic singer, I fell in love with him and he’s music I was only 13 at that when I first heard him singing I still remember the song he sang it was cold cold heart, and I still love him singing today,so Sade he died so young he was so very much loved by everyone god love him may he rip for ever I still love him,,
Hank Williams Sr. is one great Singer that went way to soon and only had a few Songs and Hymn's but that is enough to show just how good the Older Singer's were . God Bless you Hank Williams Sr. and Family too and a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year too.
I'm an old man now but when I was a kid my Daddy used to sing Cryin songs by Hank. Syd had all his eps on the yellow MGM label. Think his guitar was a Harmony Soveriegn. I have a 51 year old son somewhere who I only saw once when he was first born, he was adopted. Hence 'My son calls another man Daddy' by Hank always makes ms cry. Syd was dirt poor from Stepney, London, but he made good before he died aged 67. I went on to play guitar and the 5 string, they're in the other room here in Portugal.
I was raised listening to hank Williams through my dad playing his records through my childhood and i remember when id listen to him i always thought hank Williams had to be the saddest singer i ever heard you know you got something if you can choke a kid up and bring tears to a kids eyes and hank did that to me, he will always be the most emotional singer i ever heard.
omg are you & me twins 😮 cause my childhood was exactly the same - my Dad used to say to me “listen to the words” & I would with tears 😢streaming down dripping off my chin, every time I play/hear HW Sr I can see my dear Dad sat in his chair singing along, I’d give anything to go back just for a while xx
