George Kennan foresaw that, if his policy of containment were pursued , the USSR would eventually collapse internally . At the time of this interview the world and US foreign policy were at a critical juncture . To use the peace dividend that would come from the end of the Cold War to get our own house in order and first rebuild our own domestic economy and infrastructure , thereby reaffirming our American system as a shining example for the rest of the world as that shining city on the hill or to let the Neocons and military industrial complex abscond with that dividend to engage in their military adventures . Sadly, and to Kennan's disappointment , we took the low road ,as the neocons were successful in creating the new boogeyman of Islamic terrorism to replace the Soviet threat . Not to say that Kennan's more nuanced approach to foreign policy would've been easy and indeed, it is the road less traveled , but America , as the sole superpower at the time , squandered one of the greatest opportunities in history .
Islamic terrorism ? I agree with what you say buy not this. Don't attach these word with a pure religion that america terrorized because of its stupidness and israel.
