Charlotte Dujardin and Valegro are no longer prancing down centerline for us but thanks to the joy of the internet we still get to carry their magic in our hearts. As part of our Warm Up Wednesday series here at Dressage Hub we love to feature the best dressage riders in the world in their warm ups. Charlotte Dujardin is the most decorated female Olympian in the Uk and that give us every reason to watch and learn from her every move in the grand prix dressage warm-up at Hickstead in 2013.

I know she's worked hard to get where she's at, but I can't help thinking she's such a lucky girl to have the experience of riding such amazing horses! What a blast! Looks like so much fun!

The reality is that the horses are at the level they are because of Charlotte. You can have fabulous horses but they are all only potentials, and need training by experienced skilled riders

@@vibeskouenborg6842 His mouth is not open, Valegro is a well cared for and loved horse. He is salivating but that is completely normal for most horses, he's relaxed and happy the entire time.

I didn't know they still allowed recording of the warm-up area. Given how horribly the riders ride. For all the horses it looks like two different animals, lots of front leg action and no drive from the back legs. The back legs also don't have any spring to them. The riders are hard handed as usual. Nothing has changed for the better in competitive riding for decades. It's only gotten worse for horses.

Where do you live/visit competitions? Here in (west) Europe almost every warm up can be recorded. Some competitions have a secluded area for the beginning of the warm-up, but they will (almost) always complete their warm-up in an area where the spectators can watch as well. I’ve often recorded myself, or have seen others record. Btw, this was a training, not a warm-up. Those are harder to record, since they’re often ‘behind closed doors’ for the public.

Be great if they did it bareback, bridleless and spurless then it might be worth watching, the horses always look so uncomfortable to me and I absolutely hate rolkur, is it natural that a horse foams at the mouth so much? Nothing I see here is in anway kind to the horse

@@mishamandrake1677 I mean, you cant go on such a high level of competition without these requirements. (you have to wear a double bridle in the olympics) And spurs are only there for clearer instructions, not to hurt/ kick the horse

@@mishamandrake1677 And I think the horse isn't trained in rollkur, he's on the vertical, you should look at edward gal, his rollkur-ed horses are clearly different from this one. (when the horses halt, the poll goes down, and their noses cave in). (btw you can see she keeps giving him the reins in her half halts)

Und in der Ecke noch schön geriegelt Grottig, das hat rein gar nichts mit Classical Dressage zu tun. An dem Pferd ist nicht ein Millimeter entspannt.

I don't know where you "learned" dressage but you should know that there are many different styles, I ride German style dressage, there is also French style dressage. This horse and rider still have the highest score in dressage, this video was from when she was still beginning to show at this high of a level. This horse is completely relaxed and happy, yes you can see a horse with his head far too behind the bit but Valegro and Charlotte are perfectly happy.

@@saarlooswolfhund6237 Classical dressage is where the real abuse is. These horses are happy and healthy in modern dressage. In classical dressage there was much more rollkur and tense horses. Yoy let your dog walk you, learn about dressage before you call it abuse.

Im tge only one who doesn't like her riding and the body language of her horses. This horse for example looks crampy and absolutely not relaxed, its BEHIND THE VERTICAL constantly. Typical Modern Dressage Riding. If I see all the other Rollkur Riders I puke

Charlotte doesn’t use hyperflexion or Rolkur. She’s well know for the sympathetic way in which her horses are trained. This horse (Valegro) in his career scored 49 tens in competition from the FEI judging panel.. He still retains all 3 world records for dressage even though he retired 5 1/2 years ago. Most horses that are trained with Rolkur are prone to being injured more frequently and have very short careers. Totilas was retired early due to the knee joints in his front legs fusing together.

@@angelaphilpott6690 of course she and C. Hesters use LDR. If you don't wanna see the crampy body language, the open mouth, the hard hands:learn basics. This is NOT Classical Dressage. All horses around them are Rollkur abused, no exceptions

@@saarlooswolfhund6237 Not all riders HAVE to ride in classic dressage, some do French style or German style. This is probably the most relaxed horse I have seen at an FEI level, you attack all the great riders just because you're not at that level.
