There have been quite a few changes along I-77 and I-85 since this video was shot. Still, great to see my home city and its mother roads get some love. You do great work, FreewayJim. I look forward to checking out more videos.
Great job, man! The recent I-85 widening between the US 29 connector near UNCC and Speedway Blvd. (err...Bruton Smith Blvd.) was classified as "temporary" by NCDOT. When they have the funds or complete the northeastern arc of 485, I expect they'll get back out there and add more lanes. The stretch of 85 between Speedway Blvd. and NC 73 will be widened soon to compliment the recent revamp of 85 in Salisbury.
thanks for posting this video. i saw the other one you did of I-77 north last year or the year before. and yeah those left lane hogs get on my nerves, I-77 is only so wide, lol.
Hey, if you have thoughts of coming back to Louisiana, they've raised the rural speed limit to 75. I discovered it when I was on I-49 a few days ago. Not even a month old.
I've done a few videos with Rush Songs. See 2012 I-95 North in Philly and I-384 to I-91 in Hartford, CT and will have one coming up in January from Dallas.
Thanks, when I passed that woman, she gave me a drop dead look, but no birdie, lol. Like I was doing something wrong, seriously I was barely going 55 during that stretch.
@north5880, that's only because the new I-85 stretch around Greensboro has only been around a few years. Give it time, though. Believe me, Greensboro is a much safer city having rerouted I-85. No more trips through Death Valley, even if I happen to be coming from Winston-Salem, which I have to do from time to time.
@macsrule94 That interchange needs a complete makeover IMO, it may have been OK when it was first built but not with the traffic volume it sees, plus Charlotte continues to grow.
Right at 6:12, the coliseum is long gone, they need to that sign down, it was replaced with the "tajma arena" uptown to apepase the uptight bankers...Sigh...Money talks in this town moreso than anywhere I've ever seen
In regards to the woman you passed and her reaction, I cannot stand that. They (speaking of people like that in general) give you an evil glare as if passing them is a bad thing. Ugh
Home Sweet Home...You would be surprised how quick I could go from 485 to 77 to 85 and be on University Blvd...I miss the QC I appreciate the video..It felt like a video game
That "left lane hog" obviously wasn't my former sister-in-law because she would have been driving at ninety or one hundred miles per hour if she thought she could get away with it.
@cdsech I saw your comment, here's why I said HER. In my time on the road on long trips the last 5 years I've counted how many men or women are in the left lane going slow, over that time it's roughly 75% women, sorry, it is what it is. Men may be more dangerous drivers with regards to crash statistics but women hog the left lane more often. I invite you to count for yourself someday.
@Freewayjim Depends on who u ask. Im from Charlotte and we call it downtown charlotte. Downtown is the most confusing place to drive. The CHarlotte and NC Dot do a VERY poor job at labeling.
Charlotte is one of the easier big cities to get around in. I grew up here, so I know my way around really well. But I've also made numerous trips to other big cities, so I know of where I speak. Orlando is the worst big city to drive in - everyone's a tourist and no one knows how to get where they're going.
@Freewayjim I called the County Manager in Cabarrus County and complained about it. They wonder why so many people have accidents. I know where I'm going and people about kill me. IE the ramp from 85 Southbound to 77 Southbound is stupid that people get in the inside lane (knowing that it is going to end) and then evil eye you when you don't let them over. My dad was hit 2 times there in his F250, trailer hitch saved it. Semi turned over there one day and everyone was forced to 77 north.
Last year I drove south on the New Jersey Turnpike from exit 13 all of the way to the south end of the Turnpike on a Sunday afternoon and most of the other cars seemed to have a good grasp of lane discipline.
@gotthkid2 Ahh name calling and insults, typical of a defeated man, or in your case little boy. Small Backwoods town? I live in a city, a large one at that. They were staring at you? Hmm, maybe because they thought you were good looking, I doubt it though. I didn't support Bush, my state voted for Obama in 2008, what the hell are you talking about. In fact, damn near all the major cities of the South went Democrat in 2008, and 2004. I am a slave to no one. Sorry.
