Charlton Heston, was an excellent actor and he himself knew - which movie role, was suitable for him. I have seen many of this films and in my opinion - he made a good choice.
As for Scary Movie 2, I hardly think Mr. Heston would have wanted to be seen straining on the toilet! Nor was he much good in comedy anyway. He'll forever be remembered in majestic, commanding, dignified roles, and that was his forte.
The first thing that crosses my mind for a great majority of these parts is how tragically miscast Heston would have been in them. I'm glad he turned them down or didn't get them.
I also believe he turned down the role of Lucius in 1964’s The Fall of the Roman Empire. That role went to Stephen Boyd. The reason was that he did not want to work with Sophia Loren again after having worked with her in El CID (1961).
I cant see him as the Great Leslie myself but that could be because Tony Curtis was so so good in the part , same goes for Jaws after watching Roy Schneider fantastic performance its hard to imagine anybody else in the part ...
Not sure what Man For All Seasons is doing here, as Heston wanted it, but wasn't offered it. Hard to imagine Heston in some of these roles, just as it's equally hard to imagine someone else playing in Ben Hur or Planet of the Apes. Some roles just get burned into our psyches, and no other actor will do....
He also turned down a part in the movie the fall of the Roman Empire…. The part went to Stephen Boyd…. I know because I read two books about Charlton Heston
With the exception of Jaws, Stalag 17 & maybe the Wild Bunch Heston might the right decision in every movie. Jaws was a first time director ( Spielberg ) and Peckinpaw a notorious drunk. That’s a much better percentage than most actors.
I am sure Heston turned down the role of Travis in the Alamo, not Bowie. Heston would have been well cast ss the educated, somewhat aristocratic Colonel. Heston reputedly turned down the role of the former Senator in the Way West 1967.
