Stories, Arise, and SMT V are my big 3 games I began the Spring dying to play. So far Stories was a slam dunk, I couldn't have possibly loved it more and I plan to play it all again when the roadmap is done.

While I couldn't grab this day one (had to save money for the double hit of Great Ace Attorney and NEO TWEWY coming out on the same day) it's definitely one I want to pick up. I actually have the original Stories for 3DS, I should probably play that... xD

Been Playing the Demo of this game, and I'm loving it so much right now! I decided to give it a go-since mainland Monster Hunter series doesn't appeal to me. Can't wait to pick up a copy of this game for my Switch soon! Very, very excited to get it!

Seeing JayRPG play this game with English audio is the most shocking thing about this video P.S. you should do more reviews for any game, feels well put together and doesn't try to drag it out to be over 10 minutes

Good review! Finished it myself a week or so ago and I gotta disagree with your monster field skill bit. Traversal skills never played a factor in determining a monsters worth to me. Field traversal skills are never truly necessary as I found most if not all treasures found that way are not worth bringing a monster along you don't like. I had enough bottle caps to fully upgrade my stable and get the cosmetics I wanted without using field skills. I'd say use whatever monster you like and if you really want, build an everden team if you're not keen on revisiting.

I've been in deep and loving it currently at around 140 hours into the game now. So many things to grind and collect that I have so much still to do.

To be fair, I also thought the first MHS game drip-fed monsters. And that game had less emphasis on multiplayer

You’re talking about your experience with the monster combining system, I didn’t feel overwhelmed at all. It actually made me motivated to hunt for more eggs to collect genes. I enjoyed the game up until I discovered every monster once I completed it, and the DLC ones look like re-skins to me so I’m done playing. Maybe if it had more designs like Pokémon, I probably would’ve kept playing the post game.

i'm only on the second island, but this game is amazing! after getting fatigued with the main monster hunter games. a change of gameplay like this was much needed for me. and they completely nailed it so far! i'm not a fan of the gene thing...will ignore it as much as the game lets me. monster hunter combined with pokemon. if that sentence sounds good to a person. definitely check this out! of course unlike pokemon they don't forget moves :D

im in the endgame of endgame (9th floor of the S.EDZ) and i still havent done any gene channeling other than the first one but maybe that is because i just used favorites and never used monsties with field abilities that where needed and outside the first everden i never went into any of them i was getting all the bottle caps i ever needed form coop dens lol and long? i wish it was longer i got through the story in about 30 hours which for me was really short for a rpg all in all though this is the best trainer since world of final fantasy in my opinion

90 ish hours in, and I love this game even more so than Rise, and the first Stories game. I made sure to grab the stronger royal monsters before leaving the second area, and I swapped them out regularly.

At 3:21 i thought the judges from ff12 made an appearance

mind that 5 million other reviewers say that the framerate is all over the place and it's really distracting. idk maybe jay needs new glasses. either way i got it on steam on launch day. it's not the most stable experience there either. and i really have a way too overpowered pc for what this game is. i still love it though. ena is bae ♥

I'll admit, I had judged this for the cartoony style and dismissed it for deviating from traditional MH but you have convinced to give it a try. Odds are it's going to be better experience than anything game freak has put out for many years

Just passed the 100 hours mark on the game and enjoyed every minute of it, and still enjoying it. Better than the original in every aspect. Perfect? Unfortunately, no (ofc). The aspect I enjoyed the least is the story: it's not particularly bad, is just that I don't understand the thought process behind it. They said is not a direct sequel of the first game (but kinda is, as the NPC reference a nameless "legendary rider" that was a pal of Navirou multiple times), and I understand that: they didn't want the players that didn't play the first game to feel like they're missing a part of the story. But then the game is all about learning the past and finishing the job of the legendary rider Red, the protagonist grandpa, so both the new players than the ones that played the first game will feel like they missed part of the story. What's the point in having two nearly identical past legends? It's very confusing. Just make Red the canon protagonist of the first game and call it a direct sequel. Other than that, I don't have any other major complaint, just some minor issues like some monsters you can't "catch" , poor NPC AI, some FPS drops (Switch version here), repeating maps and a Rite of Channeling / monstie's Gene system that needed some extra work imho. Overall an 8,5/10 (almost a 9) for me.

Sounds really flawed. The overworld abilities sound like nice flavor but issues 10x worse than the Pokemon HM problem.

Honestly the story is at times so bad, that it was pissing me off. Like when these humans take away your certain monstie, while your character seems helpless like a little child. So often this the story completely ignore that you are a heavily armed person with a horde of monsters under your control.
