The MIG weld used by Charnwood is precision applied by robot and highly skilled craftsmen. The weld is free of contaminates which can weaken the weld. The weld is external as this is the best guaranteed method for a consistently even weld. It also means that the Quality Control on the weld is easy to check.
As can be seen in this video, internal welds are popular but the big drawback is that they are not visible for inspection meaning that poor quality of fabrication can easily go un-noticed.
