Back in the office for a Chartreuse Taste Test & Comparison! This week I'm doing a side by side tasting with green vs yellow chartreuse. These french liqueurs are made by Carthusian Monks who have been handing down their secret recipe since 1605. The Green Chartreuse we sip today has been in production since the mid 1700's and Yellow Chartreuse was introduced in the mid 1800s. Both sweet and herbaceous, these two liqueurs are a special addition to any home bar. Try the yellow out in a Chartreuse Bees Knees, and the Green in a Last Word cocktail.

There's a cocktail that's been around about 100 years called "The Last Word." It's a strange combination of ingredients that works: equal parts green Chartreuse, Luxardo marachino liqueur, gin, and lime juice. I can see how some might hate it, but I love it.

Was able to try the yellow one in Spain where it sells for 11.99 while in Switzerland it sells for 60. The yellow one has an anise dominace and it is very sweet. It still is a nice liquor although i definitely prefere the green one.

We had a taste test between the green and yellow with family members. Surprisingly to me green was preferred by all but one. On a side note a few drops over vanilla ice cream or on top of strawberry shortcake with whipped cream takes dessert to another level. We in NJ pay about $52 per bottle on sale. Thanks for the fun video!

Only tried the green one and it was so complex that you can zip for hours guessing what herbs are in it. I tasted balm, mint, anise and juniper although the juniper is not dominant like a gin. Everytime you try it you discover some new tastes. Very interesting liquor witch in my opinion is more like a herbal medicine elixir but absolutely a joy to drink.

In Belgium the regular green Chartreuse is about 45 euros. That's about 50 USD. We can get it in every liquor store without any problem. My preferred choice is the green V.E.P. Its essentially green Chartreuse that aged at least 8 years in oak barrels. Its less vibrant green, has received a little brownish splash. It is definitely less sweet (sugar) then the regular. But most importantly it has an increased complex taste. Once you tasted VEP, you'll find the regular tasting less good. The VEP is now so hard to get, that they get auctioned starting with prices from 200 euros for a 1 liter bottle.
