I agree 💪🏽 the Freedom Flex is slightly better but I also can't wait to get the Freedom Unlimited next year. The Paypal quarterly bonus is so clutch on the Flex. I just used it to book an Airbnb in Paris for next year and it's so nice to earn 5% back on it 😳
Nice! Yeah the Paypal category is always something that gets a lot of use for me. Definitely agree that the Flex is a little better than the Unlimited but both are must have cards!
The Lyft discounts and credits, particularly if you're traveling during the holiday season is another big advantage of the Flex over the Unlimited. The 5% back on Lyft, plus automatic discounts Lyft offers is good through 3/31/22 (for now). I've already used it several times on my trips to Texas and Kansas over the past few months.
Thanks for sharing Marvin! I think that's definitely a good thing that you had the checking account before applying so that you were already a Chase customer!
Thats awesome. Maybe lock in and invest around $750 dollars on a card at BoA for a year on a secured credit card. You can use this card for gas only every month and earn a sweet 3% on that category. After that year you get your deposit back and then they switch you over to an unsecured cc + they will raise your limit with on time payments or low credit utilization. Its what I did when I was crawling out of the 560 score, now just hovering around 740s 3 years after I started my cc journey. Just a thought, maybe this can also help you 👍
Looks like the 💪 flex card is going to be a no brainer and my first chase card: as soon I am under 5/24 next month or early January 2022 can’t wait. I am focused on Chase cards in 2022 trifecta only.
Love to hear that! Yeah I think it definitely is a no-brainer type of card to get once you're under 5/24. Hopefully they increase the Sapphire Preferred or Reserve welcome bonuses again next year in case you're thinking about getting one of those cards too! Thanks so much for watching and for the continued support here on the channel!
During your video, an Ad for the Discover IT card popped up so ironic lol. Since you brought up Costco, fun fact: In Canada, Costco is Mastercard only.
As someone who has the CSP and Discover it. I'm choosing to get the unlimited over the flex. Essentially the flex is the same as the rotating 5% cash back categories with 1% on all other purchases as the discover. While you have the unlimited is 1.5% cash back on all purchases. So I feel like getting the flex card first isn't justified right now as it's almost the same as my discover (except the SUB) and rather get a card that's different then what I have now in terms to cash back earnings. So in my instance getting the unlimited is more beneficial for me as I want to get the most for my points to transfer to my CSP for travel purposes. Might choose flex down the road for the chase trifecta. Just not right now.
This is the best breakdown of these cards I’ve seen. Even a dummy like myself gets it. Just got my CFU yesterday and now I wish I had got CFF lol. Next I need to work on getting the chase trifecta setup! Thanx!
Get both of them 😃. I went with the unlimited 1st because I have the discover it cash back card, and most importantly, I didn’t know about the Chase Trifecta 🤣. Good video as always 👍🏾.
Hey as long as you have both then you're good to go! Also good to have both the Freedom Flex and Discover It cash back card with all of those 5% rotating categories! Thanks man!
That's a good idea! I may even make a video showing myself using the Chase Trifecta for a full week or 2 so that I can show what type of points it can earn
I’m running an AMEX set up right now but need a Visa for a catch all for the places that don’t accept AMEX. Going to be doing more research but I think one of these two cards will be a great option.
i had to make this very exact decision i went with the unlimited because i didn't know if i would use the categories. but i do plan on getting the flex next
I just got the offer for the Freedom Flex, and I know I can most likely get it as I'm sitting around 740 score. I'm also looking into the citi custom cash. One of these cards will be replacing my costco as that does not give me any buying power or cash back outside of cotsco itself, I only got it because of the high credit limit and to maximize my overall total available credit. What is your limit on the card if you don't mind me asking? I would like something with around 2 to 4k credit limit.
Agreed, Flex is the better card but if you have no worry of 5/24 then get both. I feel like the freedom -> freedom flex change killed the trifecta because I cannot justify using a wallet card slot on the Freedom Unlimited
Yeah exactly both can be good depending on where you are with 5/24 and what you want with other cards out there. The Trifecta is still good in my opinion for people that just want a straight forward setup. Plus the welcome bonus on the Freedom Unlimited makes it a good option compared to other cards as well. But yeah there can be other cards that are better deserving of a spot in your wallet compared to the Freedom Unlimited so I get it
I'm still not crazy about chase cards. I already have the WF active cash and discover it so I don't know it want another rotating 5% card. It will just piss me off when they over lap lol.
Lol I get that! The discover it and chase freedom flex are actually finally overlapping with groceries as a 5% category in Q1 but that’s been pretty uncommon for them to overlap. I’ll have a video out this week about top cash back cards and most of them are not chase cards because for chase to be worth it, there is such a heavy focus on using the points for travel
New subscriber looking for advice ? I currently have and use my Chase Amazon Prime card as my "go to" for most things. I don't carry debt from month to month on ANY card. I'm ready to open a new card and I think the Chase Freedom Mastercard is the best fit for my needs. Does that seem like a good natural progression ?
Hey thanks for subscribing! I think that the Chase Freedom Flex would be a great fit for you to look at next with it's 5% rotating quarterly categories. Hope that helps!
@@Daniel_Braun Thanks ! One more question. Do you have any advice about the different apps that help you decide which of your credit cards to use for purchases ?
I just got approved with 5 months of credit history and low income. Although they gave me a low credit limit so there’s that :( I shouldve applied after a few months
I always seem to get denied. Credit is close to 790. I do have a mortgage debt, but my credit is only at 8% use. Oh well I’ll know more about credit cards so I’m ready for the future. Been building credit since I was 18. I’m turning 30 next month
There is no way you should get denied. My credit score is about 750 right now. Have a mortgage, about 40k debt on top of that for my wife’s nursing school and I still got approved.
@@thehound1359 I don’t know. I tried 2 that time and both got denied even when I had the pre approved advantage from my chase. I forgot the other one that offer lots of cash back(5%) on gas and also got denied. I have 410k left on my mortgage. 11k on my truck and close to nothing on store credit cards (bestbuy, Amazon etc). I use them often and pay them off in two payments so they keep going . Not sure why.
I think I should have chose the chase sapphire. They gave me five choices. The chase Freedom unlimited gave me a high credit limit, but that sapphire is awesome. I didn't want to pay the 95$ annuall fee, as I have multiple cards with annual fees. The unlimited is a great card to have though.
When it was the freedom I would say the unlimited was better cause in addition to 1.5 percent it had 5% back on travel purchased through Chase Ultimate Rewards And 3% back on dining and drugstore purchases Now the freedom powered up to the flex it also has those listed benefits in addition to it's rotating 5 percent categories plus cell phone protection and also very workable and useable if you got a smaller credit line. If you like the ecosystem eventually you will want to get an unlimited to cover the gaps the freedom flex does not do but if picking just one the freedom flex by far. There's so many 1.5 and 2 percent cards out there now that also don't charge for foreign transactions.
New to credit cards here, I like to travel a lot so I got the sapphire preferred but I spend a lot on groceries and gas and those little things so I’m going to get the flex too. It’s only been 2 months though, should I wait to get it? Is it smart to open another account? It’ll be 3 chase accounts due to making car payments through chase as well!
I applied for the unlimited thinking I was applying for the flex! I watched Graham Stephen's video on the best beginner cards and saw him mention the flex, went on chase's site and in an excited hurry only saw the word freedom and the same sign up bonus and started applying. I got approved thankfully and am excited for the card but I wish I was a bit more patient and realized I applied for the wrong card. Great lesson for the future to myself though and great video. I plan to go for the trifecta you mentioned over time
Hi Daniel! Thanks for your awesome videos-- they are super informative and easy to follow. If I already have a CSP and the Discover It, would you recommend the flex or the unlimited?
Thanks Crystal! So I personally like the Flex slightly more than the Unlimited just because it has more earning potential with it's 5% rotating categories if you activate and use them each quarter. But both are great cards to have alongside the CSP!
Correct, that’s what I said. I said both of these cards offer 5% on travel through the portal, 3% back on dining and 3% back at drugstores which were the similarities between these cards
Dude I want the flex but I shop at Costco for groceries and gas… that is what is holding me off for that one and might just the the freedom unlimited to match it with my sapphire
The Freedom Unlimited is a great card too for miscellaneous purchases! Yeah its too bad that the Freedom Flex will not work at Costco because its a Mastercard. The original Freedom Card that I have is actually a Visa and get 5X on rotating categories as well so it works at Costco, but the newer Freedom Flex is different
Hello I currently have a Chase freedom student and I’m thinking on doing a product change for the Chase freedom unlimited since I heard that it does not cause any hard inquiries and damage the credit. As well as applying for the Chase freedom flex. What do you think about that?
Nice! It's up to you but personally I wouldn't be in a rush to get the CSP right now since the welcome bonus is so low compared to what it was a few months ago. If I was in your situation I would go for the Freedom Unlimited next and then CSP. And I usually think its a good idea to wait maybe 90 days before applying for another Chase card, especially if you're new to Chase. But there's no rule that you have to wait that long, I got approved for the CSP and then the Freedom Unlimited within about 45 days apart a few years ago.
i applied for the amazon prime cc back in July and i just applied for the freedom flex card today and got approved. i think a lot of factors play into it but i would recommend the rule of thumb which is at least 3 months between credit cards
Just take into consideration de 5/24 rule. "The Chase 5/24 rule is an unofficial policy that applies to Chase credit card applications. Simply put, if you've opened five or more new credit card accounts with any bank in the past 24 months, you will not likely be approved for a new Chase card."
Great video!! I currently have the chase freedom original cc so I am unsure if I should get the freedom flex since they are similar or if I should just get the chase preferred sapphire. Would you recommend? Or I can get both of them so I can do the trifecta.
Thanks so much for watching and commenting Emma! I was in the same situation as you, I had the original Freedom card (which I still have). I got the sapphire preferred and freedom unlimited next to complete the Chase Trifecta. But then when Chase came out with the Freedom Flex, I recently got that one too. It’s not necessary really to have both the freedom and freedom flex because they both get 5% in rotating categories. But the freedom doesn’t get the 3% back on dining and drugstores like the freedom flex does. But if you have the unlimited as well, then those categories are already covered, so it’s not really needed. But you could get the flex for the sign up bonus and for the fact that it also has that cell phone protection benefit too if you want since the card has no annual fee. I hope that helps!
Great video! I was debating which one to get between Discover it and Chase freedom flex. Im in my early 20s and currently have one credit card (wells fargo active cash that has 2%cash back on everything). Which one would you recommend?
Thank you! Personally, I like the Chase Freedom Flex better because it just offers more than the Discover it so I would go for that if you qualify to be approved. But if you want to have multiple cards then I'd say to get both eventually and go for the Discover It first. I wish that I got the Discover It card early in my credit card journey when I was just getting started! But yeah, both are great cards and you can't go wrong with either
What your thoughts on in the freedom unlimited or the BlockFi card as my “catch all” card. I already have the flex and the CSP. Didn’t know if it would be better to mix it up with the Bitcoin rewards
Good question! I'm going to make a video about the best catch-all cards soon because both of these cards are good options. I think if you want to dollar cost average small amounts into BTC over time with the BlockFi card then that is a great option. Its not going to be a ton of money, but if BTC continues to appreciate then effectively the 1.5% rate of return on your spending grows with it. Plus its all automated which is a nice feature. The Freedom Unlimited is good if you are going to redeem the points it earns for travel within a year or so because just like holding cash, holding points for too long is going to likely lose value thanks to inflation
Hey so I I have the freedom unlimited Been having it for over a year today so I decided to apply for the flex and was approved today when I signed up for the unlimited I received the 200 dollar welcome bonus am I eligible for the flex 200 dollar welcome bonus as well? If so I don’t see it on my chase app like I seen it on my first account
Do Canadian cards 😤 haha when I was living in America, I struggled getting approved for cards. Not sure if it was cause they didn't have much information on me or what, but the only I was actually able to get approved for what the Discover It card 😅
Haha, I wish I knew more about Canadian cards but of course I gotta stick to these popular American cards! If only all cards were available everywhere. Yeah it all depends if you are here from out of the country and trying to get US cards, but that Discover It card is great so that's good you got that one!
I'm new to credit cards with no credit score sorry if this is a dumb question. I've been banking with chase for awhile and got pre aprovided for both. Flex's quarterly calendar has great benefits and the categories seems to be what I normal spend on things, but does the cash back benefits only last a year or does it rotate and you can use it every year? I really just want to raise my credit score as soon but realistically as possible.
Yeah a 2% base rate would be great! But yeah like Rob said above, the CSP and CSR will boost that 1.5% rate up depending on how you redeem the points. But that's why I think its so important to get these cards mainly if you plan to get a Sapphire Card as well
@@Daniel_Braun do any other credit card families have a card similar to the sapphires that boost the points when going to the portal. I don’t think Amex has anything similar to that? I think it’s excellent because it really enhances the value.
Most other reward systems either cap it at 1 cent per point for travel through a portal (or less with Amex). But then they allow you to transfer points to partners to get more value. I like that chase gives you the option to transfer to partners for more value or to redeem with a sapphire card for more value through their portal. One of the main reasons why I think Chase is the best for most people!
Yes you can if you sign up for a new Freedom Unlimited card with that offer as well! They are different cards so you are eligible for any welcome bonuses / 5% back on groceries that both offer
Heads up - It is not a $250 bonus...It is $200 bonus. an honest mistake I'm sure) Also you do not need to use ANY LINK(This is automatic) although using his link may benefit Danial as an affiliate marketer) in order to get the additional sign on bonus (5% First year category bonus (which was 5% on groceries @ the time of this video - but hat has now been changed to 5% fuel - for first year - for anyone interested in up to date info. Good video but few corrections to be noted
Thanks so much for noting the corrections! Its tough to manage and keep everything up to date with my previous videos since so much changes over time with credit card benefits, bonuses, etc. But yes I totally agree - for anyone reading this, use whatever link gets you the best bonus or the bonus that you want! My affiliate links may benefit me if you use them but I always want people to get the best deals so sometimes it might be best to just apply through Chase's website. I appreciate the comment 👍
I just got Freedom unlimited because it is a visa which means i can use it at Costco :D :D :D I already have a mastercard and an amex. that's enough i think.
Hey, I just got Chase freedom unlimited, How long should i wait to apply for chase freedom flex so i can benefit the 200 cash back on flex as well. (ps i am international student, freedom unlimited was my first credit card, i started with 0 score.) also the welcome bonus is now 200 not 250
Hey Nikhil, thanks for the question! I would wait at least 30 days before applying for another Chase card, but probably closer to 90 days just because your credit history is still so new. That way, you can get a few on-time payments in with Chase to show you are a responsible borrower. Its up to you though if and when you want to apply, sometimes its tough to time the welcome bonuses to get the best one available
And the available welcome bonuses that appear via Chase's website, referral links, in branch offers, etc. also can vary. But definitely check out any in-branch offers because those tend to be a little better than what's advertised online.
Right now I'm on chase 5/24 jail until at least march of 2024. Right now I have the chase freedom unlimited and when I'm out the jail I'm gonna get Chase freedom flex.
So it actually is automatically earned as 5x points, not 5% cash back. Chase advertises cash back on their website, but both of these cards earn points. You can convert those points to cash back at 1 cent per point though, but I recommend keeping the points and combined with a Chase Sapphire card to be used for more value towards travel!
I’m not getting the 5% bonus for Q1 2022 at grocery stores at my Walmart neighborhood market. I though Walmart neighborhood market was considered a grocery store and not the Walmart supercenters. Anyone experience the same issue?
hello, i am interested in getting a credit card primarily for money off of flight prices (travel card / whatever else thatll come with) and looking for a no annual fee. I have come across so many options but dont know what will really be best/easiest? What are youre opinions (not a huge credit card spender as of now but prefer over 1x)? so far I found this one (WF Autograph, Capital One VentureOne, Discover It Miles, Chase Freedom cards????) Let me know anyone lol!!!
The Flex has the most value, and it's the card for everyone. Not just because of the 5% categories but because World Elite gives more benefits than Visa Platinum/Signature. Only get the Unlimited if you don't care about the rotating categories or if you got the Flex first
Hi there I enjoy watching your videos a lot . I’m interested in getting one of these but don’t know which one. I’m trying to build my credit card latter. I’m 21 now, but my first CC was the discover student cash back and I had it for a year and 6 mons. My credit score is at 772 and I’m just looking for the best CC from chase or do you think the American gold card is a good one ? Thank you again
Hey Ashley, that's awesome! I'm really glad to hear that you like watching my videos 👍 I would say that now you've had that Discover card for a year and a half, I'd look to go to Chase next. Your income that you put on your application will be another important thing to consider in addition to your credit score, which is already looking good. Chase has a 5/24 rule that is important to consider where you can only get approved if you've opened less than 5 cards over the past 24 months. So its best to get Chase cards first before going to Amex later. I would say I like the Freedom Flex the most because it'll earn more points in 5x rotating categories. But the Freedom Unlimited is very good as well so you can't go wrong with either. If you're still a student and concerned about income to put on Freedom Flex or Unlimited application, then you could also look at the Freedom Student card which should be easier to get. I hope that all helps!
I said that at the beginning at around 1:20 what the similarities are because both cards earn 5% back on travel through the portal, 3% back on dining and 3% back at drugstores
I have discovet it for 1 yr & 9 months now, as my first credit card with 740score. I’m thinking on going for my 2nd credit card. which one would you recommend chase unlimited or flex? or if you thinking otherthan chase that would be helpful too. thanks!
I still have the old freedom visa that I can use at Costco during the quarter that Wholesale Clubs are up. If you have the flex, you can buy Costco Shop Cards online.
The Chase site says about the Freedom Unlimited: "Earn an additional 1.5% on all purchases up to $20,000 spent in the first year." Question: Is this available for someone who is downgrading from CSP or only for new CFU applications? Thanks!
Great question! So if you're downgrading then you will not be eligible for a welcome bonus like that in most cases. Usually its for new card openings only
You can redeem for cash back into your bank account and then transfer that into a brokerage but I don't think that you can automatically deposit into an investment
I think you have to manually do it but it’s very simple to setup! And the points accumulate in your account automatically so you can easily transfer them whenever you’d like
