I'm surprised NS allowed some of the excursions to run without a diesel backup. On the May 2013 Horseshoe Curve excursions, they had the Conrail and PRR heritage units as well. On the 2015 excursions no diesel at all except on part of the ferry move to Allentown, PA. I live near Allentown and I rode the excursion from near Bethlehem to Pittston and return over NS and RBMN. We met 425 at Jim Thorpe on the return trip and the two exchanged whistles. 425 was sitting at Jim Thorpe and a diesel pulled the last Gorge train of the day.
I like how NS's former Conrail HEP boxcar went around with 765 during the 2015 season but was never used on any of the excursions and was only in the consist during ferry moves.
Maybe a Steam Extravaganza event at the Steam Railroading Institute can happen like it did with Train Festival 2009 and Train Expo 2014, maybe hosting 1551, 425, 765, 611 and 1225 in the future.
Texas and Pacific It was taken off the locomotive after the 1993 season. It was then put back on in I believe the 2017 or 2018 season. As of April 2020, it still has the mars light. This video was filmed of 765 before the 2017 season. Hence no mars light.
Texas and Pacific Hey! So you were right. I was wrong! I Look a little more into it and the year they took off the mars light was after the 1987 season. Here’s a video on RU-vid of her in 1987 with the light ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RQnto7_GnvQ.html
Texas and Pacific now here she is with the headlight put on after 20 years (2017) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1n_xsULQ8fg.html Maybe that’s why they put it on? It had been 20 years since she had it on her boiler front? Who knows.
