This is what we've all waited for, the peak of the whitetail deer rut. We start off with Mike Parente as he recovers his first Iowa buck, and then Brett Joy kills a 5 1/2 year old stud just a few miles away. Finally, Jason Huntsman shoots his biggest Ohio buck, all in this episode of Chasing November.

I have been watching your programs on RU-vid since the end of our Tennessee hunting season (2016-17 season). I have followed Bill Winke from the beginning of his outdoor writing career and have always considered him one of the best deer hunting writers in the industry. Now that I have found Mid West Whitetail video productions, I consider them the best in the industry. You tell the story just like I live it. These are my new ABSOLUTE favorite hunting productions. Thanks so much for the time and effort you put into these productions. I enjoy them so much.

To Bill. You said your favorite day to hunt was Nov., 7. I checked my camera latter that week . I had back trouble and was taking it easy to help my back get better so I couldn't hunt. To my surprise, on that day, on my camera was a big buck. The days of 7,8,and 9, had 3 of the biggest buck on my camera; and I wasn't there. As 1/20/2017, I haven't seen those bucks again. I bet, next season, I'll be in my tree-stand; before and on, and after your favorite days to hunt November. Just another hard lesson learned by this bow hunter. Thanks for the tip.

Thank you! I love these videos, but I see them heading to the stand at 9am, and it makes me question my tactics. I sometimes follow the reflective thumbtacks to my tree stand because it's still that dark when I get into the woods.

I am generally on stand well before first light. However, there are times I purposely dont arrive at my stand until after shooting light. For example, when I have to cross feeding areas to get to my stand during the rut, I wait until I can see and wait until deer leave the field naturally, or sneak past them.
@JVoss-ny2xg
@JVoss-ny2xg 5 лет назад
I go in late as well. I got tired of bumping deer that were feeding in the fields. I'd rather not educate them so I go in right before sunrise when the majority of deer are bed down for early morning. But, I typically sit thru mid-day on those days too and then either sit tight for evening or make a move.

Brett almost didn't get a shot off due to his sight. You can see him fumbling with the adjustments as the buck was walking. He was lucky that he had the opportunity to make that shot.

And that right there is why I stopping use single pin sights for bow-hunting. That situation was more manageable compared to some of the situations I've found myself in when using something like an HHA Optimizer for hunting. At least you hadn't drawn the bow back before facing a sudden change where your yardage setting no longer matched the distance you were going to have to shoot. I've drawn back on a buck that was milling around at about 20 yards, and then all of a sudden he spooks temporarily and stops again at about 35. If you're at full draw with your pin set on 20 yards, you can't ethically take that shot unless you're absolutely certain how much elevation you'd have to adjust for if you had to use your 20 pin at 35. Now throw in an animal that's quartering, or could duck the string on release, there's too many variables at play there, and now you're in a mess of a situation where you need to let the bow down, change your yardage pin, draw the bow back again, all in hopes that the buck isn't going to move further away and that you'll have enough time to get off a good shot. I still use single-pin sights for 3D shooting, and indoor target stuff -- but for hunting I switched to an Axcel 5 pin sight a couple years ago, and I'll never run into a situation like that again.

Okay, let's not be silly and say "awesome shot." When you "hope" for a femoral artery you know you've made a bad choice. That was a crappy angle and a poor shot. Let's just be honest with each other. I am thrilled for you that you killed and found the buck, but it was a low percentage shot. You can delete my post if you like. I do it to folks all the time, but I'm sorry, it irritates me when folks say it's great and awesome when we all truly know you took a risk with that shot.

It’s not like he has a gun with a scope, when it comes to bow hunting you take a risk with every shot!
@1234tric
@1234tric 5 лет назад
No you don't. If you knew the right shot to take. One you don't take is the quartering to. Because you will hit liver and guts 99 percent of the time. If you try to shoot it behind the front leg. Take it from me. Take the quartering away shot, and you got instant deer meat, and a quick kill, and a short trail job.
@1234tric
@1234tric 5 лет назад
Thanks. We can't be satisfied with one lung and liver shots or as Justin say, '' he put a good shot on the deer.'' No, - liver shots aren't good shots; just to kill a deer. Quick and human kills are what I want to see more of. That only happens with a quartering away shot.

@theebigda

I've watched a few really questionable shots on your page. I've also seen deer left to sit way too long, meaning you were only after a trophy and not the meat (which SHOULD BE priority number one, not antlers.) If you don't have a clean shot stop taking really risky ones.
@ccl2384
@ccl2384 7 лет назад
I gotta say that you guys have no business bow hunting. Ya'll are about 30% successful on fatal quick killing shots from the 10-12 episodes I've watched. There's a lot more to bow hunting than just throwing a camera man on the side of the tree and flinging arrows through the woods. Might wanna do some research and practice for a few years before yall get back in the tree. Piss poor shooting.
