Everybody has their preferences to the kit they need but I always tell people, make sure you can sit, sleep, eat and drink comfortably and the rest will come. We all tend to carry so much unnecessary kit that usually costs a fortune and it's really not needed although it is nice to have. I always use the example of my grandparents who managed to travel Southern Africa 70+ years ago in a Morris minor with no dual battery, no fridge, no gas cookers, no fancy things to boil water or fancy pots and no solar or fancy bumpers or "upgraded" suspension and they had far less tarred roads compared to what we have now. Keep it simple and then you won't end up with a bunch of unused camping stuff in the future.
