A few questions from a clueless Perth based kiwi, 1. What would you consider flathead season? 2. Is it worth targeting flathead on surf beaches (i.e. fishing gutters etc) or am I better off chasing them in the estuaries? 3. Is there anything dodgy underfoot in the estuaries? I know you need to worry about stonefish etc up north but would there be anything dangerous in the swan River system and other WA estuaries?
Hey mate the season is generally from nov to march, however you can catch them all year and i like late September the best. You can get them off the beach but more as bycatch, unless fishing some spots in cockburn sound, the swan is better and there are only a few in Mandurah. There are no stone fish but i would wear water boots /shoes due to cobler, crabs and rocks when wading
Hahaha i wish i let him win! Bigger lures than you would use for bream will be fine for flatties and will stop some of the smaller blowies. Eg 70-110mm. Also if using soft plastics avoid the s factor or scents as will bring in blowies
