As stunning as it is, it's a shame that a car like this hasn't been driven and probably will not still...

That's the problem with us collectors. We see potential value in things. Especially if it's old. Terry don't make them anymore. But there will be a buyer that will drive it. I don't collect cars. I collect other things.

The original owner of Ferrari of Atlanta kept his best personal cars in the basement of the dealership. He had a 288 GTO with *delivery miles* under plastic wrap that I witnessed in about 2010. No idea where it is now.

I remember the 288GTO from the Patrick Collection. Reg was 426 GT0..to this day nearly 40 years later,the most beautiful car ive ever seen. The detail is exquisite. Only a series 1 E Type can compare. I stood and looked at it for 3 hrs,just magnificent.

Glorifying low mileage is a disgrace. Bragging about bolts never being turned is a true testimony of incompetence. These cars were made to be driven. Garage queens end up with tones of mechanical issues. No use is the real abuse. All this to justify a high price tag. Enzo wouldn’t be impressed.

While I basically agree, I also get the time capsule idea. If I was a collector, there were certainly specific specimen of cars where I would have one unit for driving and one as a time capsule, and the 288 would be one of those cases.

Yes and no. I agree they should be used and enjoyed. However an odd example in factory condition is nice to see. Not that I’ll ever afford one but personally I’d prefer to buy one that had a story behind it. It’s been to Monte Carlo. I had it on the autobahn. It’s been round the Nurburgring etc. An odd little blemish here and there from its travels wouldn’t bother me. But to see one that’s just mint is nice to

“A lot of these cars are radio delete”, this guy is an expert Jesus, the car didn’t come with a radio from the factory, I remember reading an article in Car magazine when the car came out the writer went wit a guy who was talking delivery of his 288 and the writer the new owner commented that the car didn’t come with a radio from the factory.

I've been hunting Ferraris for a solid 25 years, and I've only ever seen 1 single solitary 288 GTO. These fuckers are R A R E. The one I saw was in the garage of a dealership in Pittsburgh PA around 2004 or so. I would love to find out which one that was.

Why the first car have US-side lights, these were never officially homologated or to be precise federalised as US models. Is after market stuff or grey import from the 1980-ies?

Rumor has it the "Best" GTO is the one Enzo ordered made post production as a gift to Patrick Berger.
@DanielHillCoaching
@DanielHillCoaching 4 месяца назад
I think you mean Gerhard Berger, Patrik was the ex-Liverpool and Aston Villa footballer; but then I think you mean Niki Lauda. There's no record of Berger being given a 288 GTO, but perhaps I'm wrong? Lauda had the last official 272nd car, although some other unofficial GTOs were made post-production for VVIPs according to Ferrari historian Keith Blumell. Lauda's was made apparently a whole 6 months after production stopped - well into Spring 1987. But Berger had just then started driving for them in 1987 so maybe you know more than me and Enzo gifted him one too? Michele Alboreto had his in 1985, he was driving for Ferrari at the time and the entirety of production. Edit : I have just googled "Gerhard Berger Ferrari 288 GTO" and it comes up with nothing, where as with Michele and Niki and it comes up with their former cars. If you know anymore I'd love to know.

I agree. The collector car world is just weird to me. Why would you not want to drive n experience these remarkable machines?! That's also the reason why I love the Arab car collections. Almost all the cars r not only driven, but r tracked too. *_The Collection One_* out of Bahrain has impeccable legendary cars in his collection such as the McLaren F1, Mercedes CLK GTR, Porsche GT1s, the Ferrari Hyper 5 etc along with 2 dozen ultra special cars n they r taken out on to the Bahrain F1 track often. When the production numbers r as low as the 288's puttin miles on it will not really depreciate the values too much either just like the 250 GTOs n 275 GTB/Cs.

@@rahulsudhir666 I agree 100% especially for those that have this many cars, losing 200 to 500 k if that is not worth more then the experience of driving them. I was at the race in Abu Dhabi last year with our Ferrari Owners club and I was happy to see how many use their cars!!

Absolutely the best era for Ferrari. Beautiful cars, and no bullshit about having to buy a certain amount of cars in order to buy the one you want. And before they started sending legal bullshit to people who own their cars about modifying them. I'm with Jay Leno, I'd never buy a Ferrari! No other company in the world sells their products and then acts as if they still own them. F@#k off Ferrari!

Love the 288 GTO!! First hypercar in the world!! But it's not even close to the performance of an F40, especially a European F40 and even more so if it's one of the first F40s manufactured in 87, which has more power and is lighter!
