It is argued that Romeo and Juliet was a parody. That Shakespeare was making fun of love and the romantic customs of the time. Yet people ate it up and still hold this story as a staple of an ideal pair bonding. This may put things into perspective.
Hah! Love it. That's the first I've heard of this argument. I know that many cultures considered romantic, "young" love to be a sort of insanity. Marriage was more like a business partnership with a lot of fun perks. I think the idea was that falling deeply head-over-heels, day dreaming of soul mate bonds and losing your head in the clouds kind of love was a sort of initiation into matters of the heart, it wasn't meant to be celebrated and valued so highly, but viewed as a very personal and powerful example of how your emotional attachments can lead you astray from reality. That is my take on it at least, but I know for certain the Inuits viewed this kind of love as a form of insanity.
That's actually very true, and supported by a careful reading and comparison to his other comedies. It wasn't meant to be romantic, it was meant as a sort of morality tale to tell parents not to let their kids be that stupid. The "villain" of the story is the friar for thinking that indulging their love affair could solve the tension between the families. The overblown speeches from Romeo are comedic, and don't actually make sense in many cases, and were meant to be comedic. They were meant to sound foolish, and ridiculous, not romantic, and it made it obvious to the first viewers that their stupidity if not culled by their parents would lead to their deaths. The tragedy is not that they died for love, but that because of the neglect from their parents and push from the friar, they didn't get the chance to grow up realize how stupid and young they were. And this was wrapped up in farce and dark comedy.

I was lucky in many ways. My father, a psychiatrist, and my mother, a Montana girl, were careful during dinner discussions to ensure each of us six kids understood that romance is a game played by those offering at best 'superficial manipulation'. They spoke of the game and our ability to choose to play or not play those games. They spoke of how the desires were natural and how the energies could be used and enjoyed in healthy, useful ways. My ex and I helped our sons carry the same understanding. In my first 'you are becoming a man' talk my father shared some of his ways of dealing with the romance games when he was in college and suggested I pay careful attention to my deeper feelings and inner alarms included when a girl activated my little head. The energies of pair bonding can be manipulated or honored. In my view too few men realize the scope of the playgrounds.

Who the hell came up with that one? We have a kid and it does not cost me near that at all. When I turn on the light, it shines on all of us, not just him. No, I'm not married and I refuse to marry anyone, but we live as a family without the law getting involved.

The other day I was making a comment of how people use their brains. Saying how in some ways I have the brain of a child, but meaning in a good way. This was following a comment by a woman on how I look so much younger then my years. I told them well I keep a youthful brain. They had to make some comment of how all men have the brains of a 12 year old. I held my tongue but that was enough data to devalue her thinking in my mind. However, I will argue that if you are mindlessly and senselessly chasing the dragon of 'love' you are thinking like an emotional child. This will never satisfy you, ever. And like this teacher says (listen to him), you cannot recreate the first experience. Women will play on this endlessly. And men will chase it endlessly. Heres something to think about, and I mentioned it to a few friends the other day. Certainly, the chase is like following around a beautiful butterfly. But keep in mind, you can sit there, and probably see many butterflies. Don't chase one. Just enjoy them from afar, and then another will come around. Don't run around like an idiot with a net. Lesson, visually enjoy women that are getting all made up to stimulate you, but just for a moment then let that feeling go. And realize butterflies are short-lived and while beautiful to look at for a while, aren't very long lasting. Another thing is you have to fight a conscious battle against this stimuli. Don't give into it. It is designed and marketed to trap you and for the most part this has worked. Turn your head, divert your attention. Don't play a fool. Read and become educated. You will open your mouth to speak and people will take notice. Don't mindlessly give praise from the basis of some biological urge. She has a currency that everyone wants and she knows it. But we give the currency the value on the open market. And my brothers we have overvalued it to the extreme. Keep this in mind all the time. When we put this thing back to where it should be in terms of value, things will begin to change. Character, honesty, principle, and commitment are gems in the market filled with zirconium and fools gold of appearance and fake emotion. They exist across the sexes. But everything indeed is fully out of whack these days. Marriage has become a trap. 'Love' has become a trap. Romance is a trap, it is nonsense. Movies, marketing, the whole media world is perpetuating this nonsense, and modern young adults and youth are feeding it. Never apologize for being a man, for being a real man. And remember a real man is his own man, living his life. Going his way. You have this one life and you can create your happiness, it is yours for the taking. Don't be a slave to anything or anyone. And to all the women out there who are real women, cheers. You are a dying breed. Remember your fathers and grandfathers and theirs lived and died many battles so that we all can have this easy existence today. As the 4th is coming up, I gotta mention this. I firmly believe that there are people of good faith 'out there' who value character and integrity, and who act according to those principles. Romantic love can take people away from their passion and goals, moving them in the opposite direction. We are taught through social constructs that romantic love is necessary, when it really isn't. To be "in love" with someone simply means that we are in the throes of an intense dopamine cycle. Once we see through this illusion of romantic love, we ultimately slay the dragon.

The term Chasing the Dragon did come from the opium dens but not from chasing the high in a manner of speaking. Now I understand the source of my insatiable wife's disrespect that made no sense... she is just too precious to show compassion and true love... her heart is devoted to herself. Our poor boys have no chance to secure a joyful life when suffocating in the misandry of modern naricissitic females should our young men strive to find love from a female partner and a home with her.
