Watched a sparrow hawk, the other day, from about 10 feet away, while it held a struggling pigeon to the pavement in Bath. I made sure no one disturbed it until it had finished the pigeon off and was then able to fly off with its catch. Rather brutal but an incredible, close encounter. Those amazing, sharp yellow eyes!

An incredible bird for sure at home in Gardens,Towns and open land awesome but gruesome, great encounter Ludwig thanks for sharing 👍

One of my most exciting encounters at my local lake in Andover was a Sparrowhawk swooping down to take pigeon from the air. Then it perched in tree to rest long enough for me to photograph before flying off with its prize.

Awesome bird Jonathan. I had one briefly in the Woodford valley yesterday. Too far off for the A9III but I did get an unexpected bird of prey there very close in the early morning featuring on next weeks video 👌

Again, thank you for sharing Mark. Always something interesting and beautiful from you. I like your car. I myself have an ID. Buzz that I use on tour. Have furnished it with a bed, and what is needed. Wish you a pleasant new week. Kind regards, Knut.

Thanks for sharing! I haven't used my vehicle enough yet this year but hope to go further afield in the coming months it is certainly useful having a mobile base . All the best Knut wishing you a pleasant week also, kind regards Mark

I just missed one this evening, but must be easy to achieve in one of those paid hides in Scotland, I guess . Thanks for commenting Roger

Hi Mark, enjoyable video as ever but can I ask why the 300 with TC and not the 600 ? Just a weight thing ? Surly parking so close and a monopod it would be better with the 600 than the 300 or am I missing something? Andy
@CamillaI
@CamillaI 26 дней назад
It is a weight thing and also the ability to adjust quickly for in flight shots. Having said all that I have just been using the 300mm today and my back seems to have given out again ! I must do more upper body work it still weighs nearly 7lbs with camera and TC
@Jonathantuba

I am finding the 300 + 2x is better for birds in flight than the 600. Much more movable and I perceive even quicker AF
@CamillaI
@CamillaI 26 дней назад
@@Jonathantuba Yes we must test wether the A/F is quicker than the 600mm . My guess it is, but that is also using the A9III not the A1
@RichardBedford-p3q
@RichardBedford-p3q 25 дней назад
@@Jonathantuba is there any need for the 600mm f4 anymore in your opinion then? You and Mark have stated that autofocus is probably not as good as the 300mm + a 2x and I believe you think the sharpness and image quality is as good as the 600mm. It does beg the question, doesn't it? The differences now between shooting at f4 and f5.6, given proprietary software like DXO available seem to be minor. You can, of course, put a 1.4x or a 2x on the 600mm f4, and with appropriate skill and knowledge, gain great results at 840mm and 1200mm respectively.
