Yeah... you do ramble a bit but you are an accomplished craftsman and have created a couple of really awesome vehicles there so if you ramble a little I'm guessing everyone will forgive you.
Wait, you don't like those old worn out rollers I got on there now? 😉 I want 33's on the front and 35's on the rear. Right now they're all 33's. It has 16" wheels now, but I've discovered there aren't a lot of options for 16" wheels. So I think I'll get some 17" wheels with beadlocks. Then I'll have multiple options for 33 and 35" tires.
Hey Doug. I enjoyed watching your videos and learned a few things along the way. I like your level of detail and how much you do yourself. A couple of questions... what material did you use for the structure of the firewall behind the seat (sorry if I missed that in a video)? What did you use to attach the carpet to that firewall and to the inside of the fiberglass? Thanks!
That firewall is made out of .050" aluminum sheet. Then I rolled the top around for some strength. I wrapped the carpet on both sides and used spray adhesive to attach it. To attach the carpet to the fiberglass I used spray adhesive on the carpet side and brush adhesive on the fiberglass. I used brush adhesive on the fiberglass just so I could get a thicker coat. With the adhesive you need to cover both surfaces. Then I put the carpet in place, and used a roller to keep pushing it on. Eventually it sticks and holds really well.
Nice work. To protect the front edges of the rear fenders, from rock and sand damage, you could apply some clear helicopter tape to the outer edge of the rear fenders.
Nothing “cheesy”, about what you’re saying. Durability, reliability, ease of maintenance, and sh*t not going wrong in general, is all in the nuances and details. I personally think the Rustolium is a good choice, for, cost, durability and ease of touch up. I think the biggest advantage to powder coating is in the preparation for the media blasting before coating, but, from a practical point, I think it’s too much about being able to say, I threw big money at it, it’s powder coated. Great build and videos!
The future looks dark as we all know you don't want this build to finish! Sure trackdays are awesome, but the build itself is 90% of the fun! Love your work dude.
If you decide to go that way use a small sponge roller. And then just brush the areas that you can't get the roller in. You can get some decent results with that.
I almost went the steel-it quart way, and then would spray gun it. I though there would be more overspray that way. But in hindsight that might have been a better way. I'll see how this holds up. But I banged into it a couple times when re-assembling and nothing has scratched yet.
Very nice Mike, did you send your wife on a four day vacation while you were spraying, lol, i have never seen the torque check, that is a great idea, excellent video, and your attention to detail is second to none, have a great weekend my friend talk to you soon
G'day from Australia. Great to see what's been happening. And there's nothing wrong with having a bit of princess in you if you want things to look good. ✌️ Peace
Muchas felicidades por todo el trabajo que hiciste con tu proyecto!! Gracias por comartir todo, guardo todos los videos por si algún día puedo poner en practica todo tu conocimiento, saludos desde san luis río colorado sonora méxico ✌
