@@stevesgarage1976 I’m using a homemade electrolysis bath for rust removal on the chassis components and it’s working a treat. The media blasting can be messy but your solution of half in half out tickled my interest.
@@NialPowerCork Wow a Electrolysis Bath, i bet that's really good to watch, and it's really good when you make something yourself with result's , yeah the glass blasting works really well as long as you remove any coating's like wax oils grease etc, as with those it tends just to bounce off, but rust and paint it strips really well and fast, the Gazbo just seemed the right way to go, i just brush up and sieve the glass bead and re'use, it leave's a great slightly etched surface to paint
@@kenclements1954 yeah putting my feet up today, as i'v got the rest of the chassis to strip tomorrow , so i'l be hard at it from early hours so i can get it painted in the afternoon see you Wednesday mate
Hi there Steve, I've just found your channel and have to say thanks for recording and posting this series. I am currently saving up to by a 1970's spitfire for a restoration project (I will be after a driving example that would benefit from a full restoration) so this is excellent material for me! I will probably follow your example and record and upload to my RU-vid channel when I start and include mistakes and all! I have a quick question as I see this is video 1 in the series, how did you separate the body and chassis, did you have to use a lift or is it easy with a couple of people to just lift it off once the interior and engine are removed? 🙂 Kind regards Aspie_Geek_UK (Paul)
Real pleased your enjoying my video's, I think the video just before this one shows me lifting the Tub off the chassis, I had a engine winch at its rear and just lifted from the front of the Tub by hand, it's not difficult to do, and if you have a friend that could help you it would be real easy
Great video! I think you have convinced me to go for media blasting at home. The tent is a great idea to keep it all contained. What size compressor are you using?
Really pleased you like my video mate, i'm using 100ltr Compressor, i'v also bought a car roll over jig, just waiting it to arrive, i'm like a kid waiting for xmas lol
@@stevesgarage1976 That is a good sized compressor for sure! I need to upgrade mine. Can't wait to see the jig! That is going to be awesome. I had thought about building one from engine stands.
@@StevesProjectCarGarage Yeah thought about building one myself, but cost verse time i could be spending on my project just didn't add up, it's comming with Caters fitted so it can also be pushed around, so if it's nice and hot outside in the summer, i'l be pushing her out onto the driveway to work on lol
Hi there Philip Thanks for your comment's, i use 100 ltr Compressor which has a 14.6 cfm, if you were to work in something like i use like a gazbo then it's just a matter of brushing up the floor and then seiving the media you'v brushed up to re use, don't do it anywhere near engine parts if your using glass, when i'm blasting small area's in the garage i use a ground sheet and try and block the area off around me, because it goes everywhere, it's like sand when your on hoilday lol
Thankyou Spellacy, My intentions are that the car will end up looking like it's just rolled off the prodction line, but slightly better i'm hoping, so everything will be how it was, apart from getting a overdrive gear box, which i have in the donor car, and looking better underneath with a Blacksmith black, which i'm told is more very dark gray Chassis, with a lighter grey underbody so i get a contrast in colour underneath.
