To be entire fair, my first thought on the 3rd picture was "Given the previous choice of items, it's probably meant to be a tree. But it DOES look like an explosion, so maybe GPT will correctly guess this one just to be told it's a mushroom cloud and..." Nope, I've definitely been overthinking that. I've thought a bit here, and it's not so simple. Computer programs exist physically, in the same way a story exists physically in a book. In a book, the ink forms symbols that encode the story. In a computer, 1's and 0's are arranged in memory to symbolically represent the program. But a story exists with or without the book. We can say it exists in our brains when we tell a story verbally, but in reality, the story is the conceptual makeup, not physical. It exists in the qualia derived from the story. A computer program is a series of logical operations that transform incoming data to outgoing. On a finite state machine, it is no different than a prism transforming light into its separate parts. However, an implementation of a concept is not the same as the concept itself. In that sense, a glass prism is physical, but if it didn't exist physically, it can exist in the way that truly matters, conceptually.

@@guitarbrother1234 Well, not really... You could literally find the servers ChatGPT is on, and wipe it, and ChatGPT would cease to exist. The creators would have to program it from scratch(unless they keep backups somewhere, but let's say in the hypothetical, all back ups were wiped too lol) and it would probably be a bit different because they wouldn't no how to program it in the exact same way it was programmed before.. With your book example, it would be akin to burning all copies in existence of a single book. I guess you could say the book still "exists" in the authors mind, and exists as a concept. But all copies have been wiped out of existence and idk, i don't consider "existing as a concept" existing

@@guitarbrother1234I'm going to put my two cents in with an analogy. Is it impossible for you to die simply because other humans exist? While there are probably backups of ChatGPT, this specific iteration of it can be destroyed. Just like you are an iteration of humanity. In fact, this ChatGPT could be irreversibly destroyed pretty easily due to its specific settings and chat history. Even further still, let's say all traces of ChatGPT were erased, just like the math textbooks. While the concept of ChatGPT still conceptually exists, it is impossible for us to fully retrieve it. It would never be the same as it was before. A function is simply a piece of logic; it can be observed again. We'd have nothing to observe to recreate an exact replica of ChatGPT.

Whether or not a person is reproducible given the same context with the same stimuli would depend on whether or not there is free will and whether this is a deterministic universe. "While the concept of ChatGPT still conceptually exists, it is impossible for us to fully retrieve it. It would never be the same as it was before." That would be a matter of practicality, not philosophy. ChatGPT still runs on a finite state machine, and everything that would make an iteration different is all just reproducible data.
