Hey @South Metro Fire Rescue PIO , you could do a video about PulsePoint. You could give an overview about the different calls you have and which units normally respond to them. Added to this you could explain the abbreviations for the vehicles and neighbour fire departments. Keep up your amazing work, it's really interesting to watch your videos and to learn about your Fire Department. Best wishes, stay safe! Luca 2nd try ;)

10:09 Hell yeah, it's awesome to see old P3 Orions being repurposed as fire bombers as a former US Navy Orion crewmember. E: also, kudos to the Huey pilots with the Bambi buckets, the MD-87 tanker, the Baron tanker spotter, and to that lone Air Tractor pilot fighting the blaze as well. Your efforts aren't in vain.

You know, I follow this channel for a while now and I noticed your heavy emphasis on urban-wildland-interface firefighting both in the apparatus and in training. Until today I wasn't really sure why that is, because 84°F (29°C) and a bit of a dry spell usually isn't enough for big vegetaion fires, especially not in areas with only low vegetation and no trees or bushes. But when I saw on this video how freaking windy it apparently gets on the hills, I immediately understood. Wind is the biggst factor in the developement speed of a wildland or forrest fire. I guess I didn't have it on my radar before because I was a firefighter in the alps, so hills like that are never the top peaks and rarely see winds like that...
@nk6197
@nk6197 4 года назад
Can we take a moment to appreciate the little planes in firefighting? All the big air tankers get the attention but they aren’t even allowed to fly without the smaller lead plane. Also the fire maps they showed were only possible because a Colorado state modified pc-12 made the maps using the sensors on board.

Question...Where do the slurry bombers fly out of for this fire? Do they still fly out of Rocky Mountain Airport?
@Spitfire8520
@Spitfire8520 4 года назад
For this specific incident, they used Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport to reload the air tankers. I believe there were not any aircraft pre-positioned at the airport when the incident started as the US Forest Service and Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control (DFPC) move the air tankers around to where they think the highest risk is. Many of them flew in from locations like Durango, Northern Colorado, Pueblo, Grand Junction, and even out of state.

@@SouthMetroFireRescuePIO would love to see how the bombers refill with water and retardant
@deans6129
@deans6129 4 года назад
As a former forest fire fighter in British Columbia it was nice to see the chemical and water bombers do proper drops. Ideally you want to drop retardant and water from 100 to 150 feet above the ground as it gives good dispersal and good coverage at that height. The higher the drop is the less effective the retardant and water become. Also good job on the bird dog plane guiding the bomber in for the drop was nice to see. Grass and low brush fires are the worst to deal with as even with a slight wind of 5-15 km/h the fire can move extremely fast and be almost impossible to contain without help from man made or natural features (roads, lakes, rivers and even plain old dirt with no growth on it). I do have a question though are there dedicated forest fire crews or is it mostly city fire fighters with basic forest fire training?
@camden3957
@camden3957 4 года назад
There were both they had dogulas county hand crews, hot shot crews, and multiple mutal aid partners assist on the fire. Then South Metro that was on the fire and they do have basic wildland training for all firefighters but South Metro has a wildland team that have that extra training in wildland fire and that team can also be deployed to major wildland fires across that state and country.

To be honest I'm comfortable with a 400 acre fire. The worst fire I've been deployed to is a 40,000 acre fire. Unfortunately my department is small and we only have 3 engines and 5 brush trucks. Our county is 974 square miles so its have and we only have 2 departments in our county which is FVFD and SBVFD

As he said sign up... use nixle and see if they have alerts for your area. If you have ways to download apps find apps to help you... for me I have an iPhone and I have 5 Weather apps 4 of them send alerts out. I have 6 American Red Cross apps, a police scanner, my state police app, safari and I am looking for others. They all helped me. I am only 15 and was able to stay up to date and be ready to help when the Midland Dams failed. Yes I did have to evacuate but that night it is believed to be a false evac but it was also better to be safe then sorry. Everything he said can, well, and have saved lives!

Used to live a block over from the terminus & walk the dogs around the "dip station" & the aerial coordination was amazing to see... Especially the 2:53 footage of the lead plane's targeting puff followed exactly by the slurry bomber... And watching the KDVR feed of the large yellow copter dragging the heavy bucket on the long chain barely missing the chimney stacks on those mansions... A very interesting retrospective - thank you for the production and the service to the community!

Here we don’t do structure protection. It’s a waste of man power. Sprinklers are set up on the structure that create a bubble of humidity than the team leaves and goes to the next structure and sets up sprinklers and leaves. This repeats until all structures are protected. After the fire is put out all the sprinklers are collected back.
