Yesterday, October 22, 2023, Heard Kang sing Rudolfo in the Toronto Opera Company production of La Boheme. Incredibly beautiful voice, wonderful voice production, totally thrilling performance, and now my most favourite lyric tenor. Star quality with a wonderful career ahead of him.
Just heard your voice for the first time and absolutely love it!!!! I would love to hear you sing Uma Furtiva Lagrima..... pretty please.... thank you for your wonderful voice!!!
Bravo! You make singing this difficult music seem easy. I hope to be at your Metropolitan Opera recital tonight: Monday, July 11, 2016, 7 pm; Socrates Sculpture Park, Queens, New York City Kang Wang, tenor; Michelle Bradley, soprano; Yunpeng Wang, baritone; Dan Saunders, pianist
ciociosan Thank you! I studied with Joseph Ward when I was in Australia and Frank Lopardo when I was in New York. :) Still taking lessons with Frank whenever I can.
He has an incredible beautiful lyric voice yet his technique is completely hiding it! So nasal, tongue blocking pharynx, poor chest voice. So sad because his voice is so beautiful
Lee Cander you don’t hear how the vowels are muffled and the tongue is also blocking the sound...? You don’t hear that Kermit the frog like undertone in his singing? It’s very obvious. Anyway he has an exceptionally beautiful voice, but the real sound can’t come through
I guess I can hear that kermit esque sound...not all the way through but certainly in certain parts. Similar with the over use of the tongue I guess. His voice is still wonderful.
@Lee Cander it is wonderful, he has a great instrument but the real beautiful sound nor size can come out. The tongue is actually one of the most major elements that opens and frees the sound and shows the crystal clear timbre and full size of the voice. The back of the tongue is actually literally the front of the throat, so when people talk of opening the throat, the major meaning behind this is getting the tongue forward so the sound can come out properly, but in what he’s doin with the tongue, the back of the tongue goes down into the throat and blocks the sound and you get a muffled Kermit sound. It’s most noticeable at 1:06 but it’s throughout his entire singing. When it’s blocking the sound like this it doesn’t show near the true beauty of it, same with the soft palate. When the soft palate is too low, too much of the resonance goes to the nose and the vowel becomes less beautiful and clear and more muffled. He goes more nasal on higher pitches which is like a shortcut but it muffled the voice, and he is nasal throughout. Here’s an example of better technique, you hear the sound is much stronger clearer and resonant and free. I’m not detracting from his talent at all. He’s doing many things really well, but unfortunately when you have things muffling and blocking the sound it doesn’t allow the true voice to come through ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AjX0d_LNJfg.html Here he is in his prime. Notice the voice is MUCH MUCH clearer, stronger, has more size richness and darkness and efficiency. Much stronger chiaroscuro. The tongue blocking and nasal sound doesn’t allow true chiaroscuro like this to happen; it is impossible to sing with correct darkness and nasal at the same time because it kills the low harmonics ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wW3fw0WiFfw.html
I stumbled, joyfully, on this performance tonight. It is fabulous, convincing, compelling, moving. And it belongs in the company of the great tenors of the past who have sung this iconic aria. A secret weapon that helps to empower this interpretation: Wang's great smile which reinforces the tenderness of the scene.
Vuole? Chi son? Chi son? Sono un poeta Che cosa faccio? Scrivo E come vivo?
Not even close. Even Corelli was more a lyric spinto and this mans voice is nowhere close to that intensity. He is an underdeveloped lyric voice, possibly a lyric leggiero as someone already pointed out. He is nasal and his tongue is blocking the sound and the voice is not yet developed. Behind that is a very beautiful voice. He is lucky. His interpretation could be better in my opinion. Corelli: at 31:00 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GAEukU93gbE.html
