Good video. I own one of these and I love it. I have used many high quality soldering stations, soldering in the areospace industry. (and am IPC certified in all modules) and even though this isn't one of those high price machines, it is certainly the best bang for your buck. I would like to add some helpful hints that I noticed when you were soldering, first on a new tip heat it to max heat and then tin your tip and clean it and retin it a few times, next drop your temp between 350-380c for most all soldering applications. Also, on that note switch to the brillo style (meant for soldering) tip cleaner. The reason I say this is when you get that sponge wet and "shock" the tip you will reduce the life of the tip, I promise you. Next, instead of cranking the temp up change your tip to something with more surface area, round tips are terrible for soldering most wires, that station comes with a nice flat tip that works great. Last, more of a preference don't get me wrong, considering most solder comes with a flux core, I still use solder flux, try and get the paste and put it in a syringe, then use isopropyl alcohol to clean any excess flux away. You will have the best looking solder joints ever if you follow these few steps. Once again, great video

Clean visually, not long winded (you get right to it, unlike so many videos) and some entertainment thrown in as well: "DOA! ... I'm dumb as a brick...three power switches" LOL. Thank you for this video. I am going to buy this model on eBay. The seller has a 60 day return policy. I hope that if it is going to fail, it does so in that time period, unless they offer some sort of additional warranty. Hopefully mine will not arrive DOA. Thanks again.

I've had this unit for 2 years now. It's still going strong. Within two repairs it's paid itself off. One downside I've experienced is that it's not good for micro smd work but for charger ports, removing IC from boards it's excellent. My usage is very light so perhaps that's why it's lasted longer.

I bought one of these off eBay a few years back and it’s held up quite well. I actually ended up with 2 as 2 different warehouses filled me order at the same time and I got the second one the day after the first. They said they didn’t make an error so I kept the second one. One of my units will put the hot air gun in cool off mode or not turn on at all in the cradle, the other one works in the cradle or not.

Also was wondering since this video was made for years ago do you have an updated recommendation like say a newer version or better deal?

I had one of these for years. I used it daily for charger port repairs. At first it worked great but the continued use wore it down. The soldering iron could not maintain steady temperature, and the hor air wand slowly but surely melted to the point that the metal outlet was at an angle over time. I'm not complaining because I paid pennies compared to other solutions, but of youre planning on using this in a shop on a regular basis you'll be better off spending a few hundred on a real hot-air station and a few hundred on a real soldering station

44mod Honestly it's kind of one of those "if you don't know what it is you probably don't need to know" type things, and basically no one knows what it is lol. Really it's kind of strange they put them in with every inexpensive soldering station instead of a $0.50 pair of tweezers people would actually use, but I digress. The proper name for the plastic handled wire thingy is an FP Pickup tool or Pickup Wire. On paper it's basically a dedicated tool for lifting ICs after desoldering them and nothing more. To use it, ideally you find an S or L wire that's thin enough to slide right in under the leads on both sides of the IC, right in that tiny gap between the soldered foot of the leads and the body of the IC, then hit it with the hot air and lift the IC perfectly uniform without disturbing any components around it like you might by trying to get tweezers into a tight spot or trying to pry it up with a razor blade or something. www.hakkousa.com/products/replacement-parts/b5056-fp-pickup-tool.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Wd8MY9_bDTY.html

For anyone considering grabbing one of these that's just getting into electronics consider the 853D. The new blue one comes in the same body as the 862D+, has the same heat gun and soldering iron, the same functions(except uses more precise buttons for temp adjustments rather than dials) and displays, but also adds a USB port and little 2A 0-15v bench power supply built in, which of course isn't going to work for any HV/high current stuff, but if you're tinkering with Arduinos or other logic level circuits then that's more than sufficient for a lot of things and considering the price difference would be justifiable for the digital controls alone it's definitely worth it. Personally I just got the 862D+ after using cheap $8 pencil irons for the last 15 years and so far I'm digging it so you definitely can't go wrong that way either, just figured I'd mention the 853D.

Don't get me wrong it's a great station to start with and it's good for simple repairs and projects but when it's constantly used for bigger and more demanding things especially with more constant projects you'll start noticing it's limits and after some time normal things to soder will take much longer than it was before, I'm surprised mines even lasted this long to be honest.

You can replace the heating implement like for less than $15 USD.

I got the Saike 952D+ branded one, they're all the same, pure garbage. It lasted me about a year with several repairs throughout that time. First the iron stopped working, easy fix I think it was a blown cap or something. Next the hot air gun burst into flames and died. I replaced the entire air gun handle twice. Then a third time only the heating coil burned out so I tried fixing it with some NiCh that's typically used for vape coils, maybe that was the wrong thing to do because it made an angry electric sound, shot sparks out of the back, and released the magic blue smoke, hasn't worked since. I'm not fixing it again, not worth it. Lesson learned, next time I'll shell out the money for a quality station.

I just purchased a suspiciously cheap 3 in 1 unit for $12 on ebay. So long as they actually send me an iron itll be worth it, given that my current radioshack iron is broken in half.

Metric Person: 246 Celsius? Haha I have 852D+ and it tends to overheat the handles of air gun and iron. I hope 862D+ solved it.

I'm looking to buy the 853D, you say the handles of the heat gun and the iron overheat? Is it very hot, making it unusable or uncomfortable or is it just warm? Any feedback would be appreciated as not that many have the 853D :)

Ok love the funnies but by god, are you using a tiny conical tip with barely any thermal mass to solder that wire? oooookay then. That being said open it up and check it for safety, they don't always do a good job. Like making sure it is the live wire that goes to the on/off switch and not the neutral one. Check the protective ground. Check for wires going past sharp abrasive edges... that sort of thing. Usually all easy to fix but best to check now rather then later.

I wonder why they put the heat gun switch on the solder side, and the solder switch on the heat gun side?

Whatthe4355 Your comment makes no sense. Logically, the switch should be nearest to the item it controls. That way, intuitively, you can reach for it without reading the label.

Please explain to me why people do unboxing videos?? I'm not talking about this video but the ones he speaks of. I don't care about the product coming out of the box, just get to the demonstration and your opinion. Also use Google translate app for any translation using the camera feature, it helps... I said it helps, so don't attack me with your "gotcha" replies. Oh great video btw. 👍🏽

As soon as you flipped the front power switch I knew you hadn't flipped the back (haha). Not that cheap Chinese dual-function stations can't arrive DOA but I assumed you missed the back. What's funny is when you thought it was DOA and started doing that sarcastic, joki-ish tone we all do when *severely* disappointed. Like, if we get sarcastic enough we can somehow make the thing work while not getting angry 😅 Yet, it doesn't work and we get angry. It's funny because we've all done it. I have some Chinese products coming sometimes in the next...month (?)...and even though I know both are likely scams I'll do the very same thing if they actually are. Bought a TV from Amazon once and it came with the screen busted. I paced around making those half-angry sarcastic jokes for an hour before calling. Haha Anyway, does this station still work? I'm in the market and have seen this and others like it everywhere for about $30.

Mine doesn't come up to correct temperature either. Have to turn it up over 400c to melt solder . Tried replacement iron with two different irons and only got an error message? These were for this model .I still like this model even though this has this defeat. Anyone have any suggestions ???

@@brucelancaster3616I realize it's been a year since you ask for suggestions, however I have just seen your post, I'm sure you have found the problem but I was wondering if you may have been using an extension cord with the unit, I had that problem with a small upright air compressor, it would not run with a 50 foot 14 gauge extension cord.
