Just a few years ago, a fiber laser engraver was something that cost tens of thousands of dollars and only just big companies could afford these wonderful machines. But today, thanks to the advancement of laser technology, even a small home business or a hobbyist can own one of these laser marking tools.

A fiber laser engraving machine excels at engraving metal and plastics. It is precise and 100 times faster than conventional laser engravers. I have thoroughly tested the new and very affordable ComMarker B4 20W fiber laser engraver which delivers a lot of performance for its money with its motorized focusing Z-axis, live engraving preview, two different lenses, a rotary system, a foot pedal and handheld capability. It can also engrave in color!

@10:44 It works on almost any colored acrylic because the opaque dye allows the plastic to absorb the energy from the 1064nm laser and it foams the surface, making it white effect. If you overdo it and "cook" the engraving with too much power, it turns brown. Clear acrylic is transparent to 1064nm so no energy can get absorbed into the plastic. You need some dye in it to work. White HIPS sheets also works, but in this case the laser is cooking the styrene in the plastic and causing it to discolor and turn dark grey. Basic rule of thumb for 1064nm is, if you can see through the material then the laser won't be able to scratch it. This is why 1064nm fiber laser can't touch glass, but CO2 laser at 10600nm engraves it easily because glass is almost totally opaque to 10600nm.

Can't really mark clear acrylic (or anything clear except for clear polycarbonate) because it is almost 100% transmissive to that 1060nm to 1064nm wavelength. With titanium the oxide layer is not colored at all. What produces the color is light refraction / reflecting through the titanium dioxide layer that causes a light wave interference which is seen as a color. When you look at straight on the oxide layer is whitish however when viewed at an a certain angle you see iridescent colors. The different colors produced are from the thickness of the titanium dioxide coating. 😀
@JTMakesIt

2000 is really cheap for a laser machine
@LaserRanger15
@LaserRanger15 Год назад
Little bit of a lie on their site. It is not the smallest marker out there, but size doesn't mean anything when there are several not much bigger than a shoe box. This does have a lot of capabilities. if I was going to do a side business, I'd give this a hard look.

the smaller ones (Atomstack M4) are not a true fiber laser. i am testing this right now and it is way less powerful.

Thanks, but not for $2000. Interesting video.

Compared to other fiber lasers its pretty cheap :) If you do some projects for other people you can pay it off pretty quickly. People are crazy for custom dog tags and such.

Pretty cool, but it is an indegogo project? I think I will pass, Indegogo is just a con. This also looks very much like the Atomstack.
@alexs.5675
@alexs.5675 Год назад
Con? I've bought many things from there and never had an issue.
@cplcabs
@cplcabs Год назад
@@alexs.5675 yeah, I have bought a few things from there and kickstarter and they never materialised. This is why they state that its not a shop. However, when they creators just do a runner with all the money such as the Rook project saying they will give a refund, but actually don't. Fyre, same thing as Rook, Jiffy, same thing. Ping which is supposed to be a GPS tracker but actually isn't and it took a lot to actually get the product when many have not. Just to mention a few. Basically, a lot of people use these things to scam people and as such are not trustworthy.
@guyb7995
@guyb7995 Год назад
Agreed in part. I am not saying this is a con, but there is basically no consumer protection from sites like indegogo so I would wait until it is available for purchase in a more standard way, where you can perform a chargeback if your order never arrives etc
@cplcabs
@cplcabs Год назад
@@guyb7995 this is a lesson I have learnt if I see something on indegogo or kickstarter. The cost maybe a little cheaper, but the likelyhood is that the creator will just take the money and run so best not risk it.

A lot of companies do a first run as a crowdfunding campaign as a form of marketing. Usually, the goal is set very low because they already have a functioning product. Commaprker is a company which already has some models of fiber lasers selling right now, when the campaign ends, they will add it to their standard offer list. But you will need to wait a bit and then, the price will most probably be higher.

Looks like a good way to qualify for a guide dog, very unsafe and you can hold it in your hand! Unbelievable how dangerous is this, wow.
@JTMakesIt
@JTMakesIt Год назад
I think no one will ever use this handheld. It is very unpractical. Handheld use is more of a marketing gimmick. But desktop operation is reasonably safe with good safety goggles. It is no different to any other fiber laser.

The cheapest one I can find of this exact laser with rotary Chuck and so on. It's about $6,000... Not really very cheap! Definitely not something for hobbyist! If you're looking to make money and you want to go and take out a loan for this. You might be able to pull that off. But you start off by saying it's cheap and it's definitely not that..
@JTMakesIt

It is around 2.5k$ on the indiegogo campaign in my video description.

Cool product but I don't trust that I'll actually get something from an indie gogo campaign lmao

Then you need to wait a bit for it to start selling elsewhere. When it does I will update the link

No. Cheap for a fiber laser. 20 to 30 years ago this would cost 10 to 50 times more.

It is cheap for a fiber laser. These things did cost tens of thousands of dollars just a good decade ago. :)

@@JTMakesIt i understand that and agree but there are others around the same price and cheaper than this one. but anything in this price range is still not "cheap" might be cheaper than some but still not what most hobbyist would call cheap was my point. that was all.
