I take being called a redneck a compliment! I grew up in a trailer and we were very poor. I'll always remember the food my Mom made. She grew up during the depression and knew how to stretch the food dollar!

My mom too. My grandma made.some scratch receipes that were out of this world, my mom learned from her. The processed food was few and far between in my house growing up. Mom could take anything and turn it into something awesome. We rarely had soda too. It was always milk. Juice was even a rarer treat. Grateful for it all😊

Honestly that sounds much better than this. I have nothing against this. It's like a lot of things I've eaten. It just doesn't appeal to me. I wonder if a plant based chili would be any good. I'd prefer normal meat chili but I was given a plant based chili pack. Well except I left it with my friend so he'd have 2. Bills are currently tighter for him than me. So I tend to leave extra food from my food bank haul. We go together because first we enjoy it & second he's visually impaired. But without him I'd never get the energy to get there much.

I would fry up the franks, then toss the beans in the pot until it’s hot. Then add… BARBAHQUE sauce😀put in the pot. Take the tots and chopped them up. Mix with cheese then add to the top of the franks n’ beans. Some more cheese on top before popping into the oven.

☝ SUGGESTION: Before adding the beans, fry up the hot dog bits to render out some of the fat. It will add more flavor to the beans. It's what I do when making my simple chili and rice meal (2 ballpark all beef franks diced and fried, 1 can of Hormel chili with beans, and 1 bag of Success boil-in-bag rice) that makes about 3 meals for me.
@Joe_Goofball
@Joe_Goofball 10 месяцев назад
Try substituting Wolf Chili--spiced differently...
@PGIFilms
@PGIFilms 9 месяцев назад
@@Joe_Goofball Yeah, Wolf's pretty good too, and often cheaper than Hormel. I typically make double-batches (4 Ballpark beef franks, 2 bags of Success rice, and 2 cans of chili) and rotate 4 versions. One uses 2 cans Hormel, one uses 2 cans Wolf, the third uses 1 Can Hormel with 1 Can Wolf, and for the 4th version instead of chili I use Bush's BBQ flavored Baked Beans. That's 24 filling meals during the month for about $30 ($1.25/meal) on average. It's less if I hunt for the "bulk" (multi-can/multi-package) deals that cost less than buying individual ones. I used to just separate and freeze the franks into ziplocks (4 in each sandwich bag and folded in half to keep from freezing all 4 together) and just pull out 2 or 4 the day before to thaw out so I can cut and cook them the next night. I was mainly doing it so I had the option to just throw them on some bread to make basic hotdogs with ketchup, relish, and a side of chips instead of cooking them as part of the chili & rice meal. Then finally I kinda got the bright idea to dice up half the beef franks first before portioning, bagging, and freezing. That way I can just toss them straight in to the pot to fry them up for the chili & rice without wasting a day to thaw first.

I grew up poor, but US poor food is super processed and unhealthy man. You guys need more access to cheap wholesome meats, fish and veg, but I get that the US doesn't have a market system for the poor where it basically has it's own economy scale. Something ain't right when the poor is forced on processed salt/fat bombs in cans, where I live people in a rough patch just eat less meats/fish, and load up on carbs n veg. Not saying this stuff is bad or anything, I would chow down on that easy, but you need a balance.

@@audreycasassa1683 Sorry to hear that. In my area we have schools that run monthly food pantries. Many people don't know about food stamps, WIC, and other programs. These programs can be applied for in my state by a phone call. The amount of money a single person can make and still qualify is around $1200/month and increases based on family size. I find many people in need don't know where the resources are or how to navigate the systems. For example our county food pantries are separate from private so people can use school pantry, county pantry, and private church pantries.

If we had buns for our burgers my mother would use half a bun, put a burger on it and bake/broil it and call it an open faced burger. She would also buy cheese ends the market would sell from the deli, could be swiss, american, gouda or anything else to make mac and cheese w/ hot dogs or hamburger meat. I don't think I ever had a chicken breast until I moved out at 19 it was always leg quarters. So many recipes I remember that I haven't had since I moved out. Family of 6 w/ 2 working parents. Lots of PJs, powdered milk and generic white/black boxes of cereal/food. I'm 60 and she fed us every night on about $5.00. McDonalds or Burger King once a month and a bill of less than $12.00.

Dang, American baked beans look very different from British ones! Our dirt cheap standard (some might say CLASSIC) baked beans come in a tomatoey sauce, and are a very distinctive orange! We have Green Giant here, but I don't think they've ever done baked beans. I'm sorry they weren't very good. This looks amazing, and I would definitely love to attempt a version of this!

Baked beans in the US are typically a lot different to what we have in the UK, theirs are often a lot sweeter (more sugar in the sauces) and of course have more flavour varieties, versus the typical beans in tomato sauce as sold here under pretty much every brand name there is... :) (not that it matters, personally I can't stand beans!!!)

Hello Wolf Pit - - I have not seen all your videos but may I add a recipe for you to try? - - Take cooked noodles (Like elbows, shell or spirals, something 3D - - Just not flat) grease your casserole dish and pour in the noodles ... Cut your hot dogs like you did in this video and add to the noodles, sprinkle chopped up Velveta cheese over everything, and finally pour a tomato/pizza/your choice of sauce all over and then heat up in the oven at 350F ... quick and fast and tastes pretty good too ... This is fascinating to me because of how different US struggle meals are to the ones I grew up on in Germany. Meat in general is probably the most expensive food over here so we had lots of salads, roasted veggies or stews and occasionally "fancy" stuff like oven pizzas or spaghetti with tomato sauce. If there was meat it was mostly trout or pork chops. And it all depended on what was in season. I think the amount of sodium in a redneck casserole could have straight up killed me as a kid but I probably would have taken that risk after weeks of having nothing but vegetables.

My Dad was from Germany and came from a poor family. He did something similar to what you just did. He used four cans of Camps Pork and Beans and chicken thighs. He would get a casserole dish and pour the beans into the dish and lay the chicken thighs on top cook in the oven at 350 for an hour. the chicken came out crispy and the meat fell off the bone. The thighs had the flat bone still on them unlike today. It was a hardy meal and very cheap. And as you said you can add anything you want to the pot. My father was all about using up whatever was left in the pantry. Chicken soup was another dish he would do and anything that had to be used was thrown into the pot to make the soup. Every vegetable you could think of was in the soup pot, so it wouldn't go to waste.

I might also mix in a can of corn. No matter how you fix it, that combination of beans, tater tots and cheese is going to make this a seriously filling dish!

Hell yeah! I still remember finding you because of your first redneck casserole recipe. I make that dish every couple months or so, and it is one of my go-to cheap eats. Delicious, and real stick to your ribs food! Personally, being from western New York, home of the Garbage Plate, we have what we call white hots. Hot dogs that are unsalted and uncured and appear sort of white in color. I typically Iike adding a little diced onion and/or bacon in mine, and maybe toss the bean and hot dog mixture in BBQ sauce, if I'm feel fancy. No microwave for me though, all done on the stove top giving the hot dogs a nice sear.

Doing a pantry, fridge and freezer challenge myself. Trying to do as little shopping as possible. Problem is you can't help but restock certain foods like milk so that's where the temptation of "let's see if they got anything new here" always hits and you wind up going home with a full trunk instead of a half bag.

Don't know if you own a George Foreman Grill, but there's a ton of stuff you can make on them. Literally completely cooks a grilled cheese or any sliced meat and cheese in under a minute, 90 seconds at most. Quesadillas are my daughter's favorite, also around a minute. Saves money, time on dishes, and no added grease or butter unless you want to. Been doing it for 10+ years. BONUS: Its the same amount of food, but because its flatter, you can trick picky kids into eating more😂😂😂

@clevelandcbi
@clevelandcbi 10 месяцев назад
@@octoscorpion2506 I've got 2 thrift store spares under the sink lol. May I also just as highly (if not higher) recommend the Pizzazz Pizza Oven. You can literally make almost anything on it. Fries, nuggets, etc. BEST feature is that since it's not in an actual oven, you can simply remove your food as it gets to your liking. For instance, my daughter likes soft garlic bread while my son likes crunchy. No oven door or worries about letting heat out. Just Google a picture and you'll get the idea. And while the pan does get hot, it's nothing close to a burner. Used them for almost 20 years. My 14 & 19 year old kids have never been hurt.

I have been doing this recipe for ages but I take the "red neck" out of it which I guess means I take the hotdogs and canned chilli out. I make my own home made chilli with beans and bround beef. The rest of the recipe is the same thing except i top it off with sour cream green onions and a little bit of hot sauce. Either way you go its delicious!
