Sod's Law that the water / coolant pump failed a few days before you went away, but on the other hand, fortuitous that it didn't fail while you were away. I'd say you've earned your break 😆

From experience, it is far better to discover your water pump is dead on the parking lot than having it seizing, with belts snapping and wreaking havoc under the bonnet when on the autoroute.

From my point of view, you have to find the silver lining on the C6 cloud. That is that you know how to work on it and it failed where you can get it to your garage to fix it. You are right about the age of the vehicle and such. When vehicles get on in years, they tend to have parts fail. As long as you keep up with it, they are lovely. A Hip, Hip, Hooray to you for persevering. You can do it!

I took on a friend's 2008 Golf 1.4 tsi twincharger, with a slipped timing chain and a set of bent inlet valves, so I feel your pain. Two of the sump bolts required the notches in the flywheel lining up and a foot long ball end driver to remove. There is no guidance on how you could possibly get them back in. I eventually managed to make them semi-captive in the sump and eventually get the sump back on without getting completely covered in sealant (there is no gasket). The combustion engine is wheezing its last.

Add L322 Rangies (TDV8) to that list, body off to do turbos! Does make you wonder if at least part of the complexity issue, in times past an engine was designed for one model / floorpan / body / transmission. In more recent times, an engine is developed independently and used accross many brands never mind models, car makers have to add solutions as needed to make them work with their application. I have bad mouthed Eurocarprats so much I have to wear a diguise or ask someone to go in for me. Pity they don't do your brand of doged perseverrence, that I would buy.

I've never owend a deisel. I'm soooo glad. Modern cars are designed to break and cost more moeny than anyone can afford. I'm sure this is done on purpose. Plastic that is subject to many heat cycles will break. Not if, just when. Usually just before or during a long journey. I don't see what the problem is with driving a Picasso to France. The car is practical, economical and quite obviously durable. The Picasso is not fast, but not very slow either. It is "quadratisch, praktisch, gut" (square, practical, good) as the Germans say in a figurative sense. However, I hope you get the C6 sorted which is of course a much more inspiring car to drive (when it works). Otherwise a nice video. Keep up the good work :)

I mean the french striked as much as the british i the 70s but peugeot still managed to build some of their best cars while almost exclusicel employing the french at the time.
