Cheap DIY Portable Spoon

Using simple tools and inexpensive materials, I craft a spoon that not only fits on my key ring, but can also have a stick handle easily added to it. The cheap, DIY portable spoon is a project that I developed so that I could have a spoon with me wherever I go. Watch to the end of the video for details about using JB Weld around food items.

Having a spoon with you in any situation is always a good idea even if you are just stopping for a small tub of ice cream or eating out of a can of tuna etc. It's especially useful when you are bushcrafting or practicing your survival skills. This is a project that is easily made and very durable. You can also re-purpose items for this project but you need to make sure that the materials are stainless steel, not galvanized. Also for further information about the use of JB Weld on food items, make sure and watch past the 10 minute mark as I detail what I learned about this type of epoxy. Thanks for watching and please leave your comments in the comment section below!

I know several people, my Dad included who have used jb weld to help hold teeth in. My dad jb welded a cap back on in his 20s. He's 75 now and very healthy. Nice vid! Thanks!

Pro tip: JB Weld is sold in 5 gallon buckets and can be used to make a cast for a broken arm or leg. When the bone is healed you can use this spoon to cut off the cast.

I really like this one! It's actually quite practical and probably the most compact that a utensil set can possibly be made. I will probably make both a spoon and fork version. If you really wanted to you could also make a small spatula and put all 3 on a single ring to carry them and have a super compact cooking and eating utensil set.

When I saw the beginning of this video, I actually thought it looked a bit naff (a bit useless, unnecessary item), a gimmick. After viewing all the way through, I have done a full 180. What a really useful piece of kit, I didn’t realise, at first, the handle can be a piece of twig you find, I thought it was a permanent piece you made and carried separately, something you’d probably forget to take with you, or lose. Brilliant, I shall be making one of these!😁🤣😂. What a brilliant bit of kit!!!😁😁

Nice trick, although I like my thermos fold out spoon with two rivets down it, because I can store a Bearing for fire bows in between the spooned part and the shaft, but I like this for a fork as I hate carrying a full fork for some reason. Tip for you, MREs and such you said tend to have deep spaces where you need that long spoon, so, stop opening them like that, cut them along the side. Makes it easier to get into the edges too.

This is probably one of, if not the best DIY mods I have seen yet. I get aggravated when a long spoon or fork won't fit in a mess kit and this is perfect. The other benefit is it's less weight without the long steel handle. I got some JB Weld in the tool box and a TS a couple miles away and some old spoons and forks laying around, I know what I'm going to do this week. Will make for great (cheap) gifts too while having fun making them. Thanks for sharing.

Nice and easy project. It's nice that the link can be saved after removing the threaded nut or lug. The nut is still a bit short to use as a handle. I was wondering if there isn't some tubing, readily available, that can be threaded to use as a screw on handle. Threaded rod or a long bolt might be an option. Maybe a plastic rod might be preferred. Possibly the handle of an old used up toothbrush could serve.
@WayPointSurvival
@WayPointSurvival 4 года назад
Yes, you could do that. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@pietrayday9915

I bet you could use a stainless-steel bolt of a matching size to build a handle from, or use a tap-and-die set to add threads onto, say, an aluminium or stainless nail of the right size (say, one of those huge aluminium nails used for hanging gutters....) It's probably not difficult to find a plastic rod that would work for a handle, and I don't see why an old toothbrush handle as you suggest wouldn't fit that bill just fine as well! Why bother with a dedicated handle? The handle could be used for other screw-on projects: a fork, spatula, or butter-knife are some obvious possibilities, but I'm sure you could use the same screw-on shank technique to build all sorts of screw-on survival tools with, and hang them all from the same key-chain to keep them neat and organized. I bet a screw-on alligator clip might come in handy, for example... you could probably also make a compact pair of screw-on scissors by fitting one of those screw-on-shanks to a sawed-down pair of scissors.... you could make a handle from a stick found in the field to use with any of these tools, but keeping a dedicated reusable handle with the set is a nice convenience!

Actually, when it's cured it doesn't have a taste. And I checked with the company, when cured it is food grade safe.

I love your survival projects and gadgets... I live in a major metropolitan area and there are woods, suburbs and rural areas not too far away so if the shit hits the fan and I have to leave the house, I can have my kit with improvised cookware and other survival items ready to go... however, there is one subject I think you should cover as part of survival out in the boonies- sanitation and going to the bathroom in the wild... especially in cases where you may have to do a "number two"... essential items such as toilet tissue, hand sanitizer, a small shovel for digging holes, etc. Show us how to put a basic "shit kit" together, as an old Army vet like me might say... :)

Hey I really enjoy your channel but I just want to make a recommendation that when you point to a link that you're trying to invite on the screen, not every viewerr is able to see those, so perhaps you can put them in the show notes, down below box. For example anyone using that amazon fire tablet doesn't see those things Just want to let you know
