I'm curious why everyone say 8-Bit "Do" instead of 8-Bit "Dough" I know how it's written, but I thought it was a play on the word Nintendo. I've never not heard someone say Nintendo without pronouncing it as "dough" at the end. Great video, just been hearing it pronounced that way and found it interesting.

It was even on RU-vid but the guy who uploaded it deleted the video when he realized they were saying the exact opposite of what he was trying to prove. Did this mod with a bunch of "junk" grade SNES controllers I picked up dirt cheap a few years ago in Japan. Also did this with those licensed reproduction 6 button USB megadrive/genesis controllers from Retrobit (I think during that weird sweet spot before retrobit released their own wireless 6 button pads). Original 6 button pads were usually pretty expensive here. What's cool is that the process is usually pretty reversible (though the megadrive controller needed some cutting on the case around the port for the charger). Also pay attention to the 8bitdo PCB's micro USB ports - these PCB's can have their firmwares updated via these ports to be used on more modern adapters and hardware.
@drewirons2646
@drewirons2646 3 года назад
I love these. I have all of them. Edit: I also modded one to fit a Famicom [I] controller. You need an f/f extender and small flat cable to reach the controller port, and I had to sand down the right edge of the pcb just a hair to get it to fit. Works perfectly. 8bitdo will also send you spare parts if you break something (I once tore the flat cable to the charting port when I was installing). They have pretty good customer service, and they even sent me some extra charting cables. The Saturn ones are just awesome, I use it with my Switch and I didn't even grow up with a Saturn.

I bought the NES Dog Bone, Genesis, and SNES DIY kits. The Genesis and NES kits worked fairly well, although I did notice the slightest bit of lag with the Genesis mod. The SNES kit however, goes haywire randomly after playing for a while. I bought two, and both exhibit the same behavior. I eventually replaced them with 8bitdo's 2.4g controllers, which are great, and have given me no problems.

I ordered a bunch of SNES ones back when they had a $5 promo at the launch of the PS Classic kits. IIRC, I ordered one of each of the Playstation ones though I never got around to installing them. The SNES ones went into some new old stock SNES controller shell and button sets that I’ve had around for years (as seen in my 8BitDo SN30 D-Pad video).

@emmettturner9452
@emmettturner9452 3 года назад
@@lucas8913 Yes. I have a video out there demonstrating high-level Tetris Attack gameplay before and after a D-pad swap on an SN30. There is a definitely improvement though it is still not perfect and some will still want to do the tape trick that I was not aware of at the time. The issue is that the contacts on the PCB have redundant contact patches and are shaped such that adjacent directions trigger too easily. You can partially cover them with tape so that you have to use a much more deliberate angle to trigger them. The reason the D-pad swap also helps is because it raises the D-pad slightly and the steeper angle somewhat keeps the adjacent contacts from touching prematurely.

Hey Tito, question about that uncommon USB cable for charging the controller, does it fit a GBP/GBC DC port? I was thinking it could be used to charge a modded GBP/GBC with a lithium battery mod without having to cut the outside of the shell for a USB-C or USB micro port by somehow re-wiring the original DC port to energize the TP4056 board. What do you think?

I have famicom clone FC30 from 8bitdo and so on. But Mega Drive controllers that are original like, wireless, and high quality (that last part is where RetroBit controllers are really lacking) are not really common. The Sega mods also counter the lack of Nintendo controller mods by having full microUSB accessible from where the cord used to exist so you can charge and update and connect with USB connection if you so feel to your heart's content.

I would've loved to have these sooner, but better late then never. Need these for more consoles, like the OGXbox. I need a few of these for PSX, but I do not see retro receivers for the PSX. so if I convert a PSX controller, I can't use it on that PSX. Between this, the HDMI mod for the NES, and the fact that you can even replace the entire motherboard with a modern one as long as you have a donner for main chips, I think I will be adding the modernized NES project to my list. I swear there is a mod out there to use the NTSJ top loader peripherals with the NTSC front loader.

If I can drop in a wireless charger to hook up to the internal USB port that would be a huge win. I'm assuming this isn't the case?

I think you can do it but you will need to trim the shell a little bit.

I got a few questions. So I ordered this and the super nintendo one, the super nintendo one feels like I have to press the buttons harder and it didnt even fit properly. I had to cut one of the supports on the back interior of the controller for it to fit because when I tried to close it it would hit the battery and not close all the way. Maybe I got a weird one idk. Am I just unlucky?

I love console modding but this is too easy. Kinda wish it was harder. I still love it!

For your retro console: When you consider that you need the apropriate receiver for your console it's way cheaper to just buy the controller-bundles. Yes it doesn't look like the original one but it's only half the price.

Hey macho the best NES wireless controller is any 2.4g NES controller because they have less lag than Bluetooth controllers,8bitdo makes one n30 2.4g for OG NES
@MachoNachoProductions
@MachoNachoProductions 3 года назад
That’s true, 2.4G is great for latency, but Bluetooth is a bit more flexible. Can use it on more platforms

@@MachoNachoProductions the problem I have is with Bluetooth range. I use the 2.4g in the living room with an AVS and the Bluetooth one on an oringinal NES hooked to a BVM. Bluetooth loses sync over 3m…

If you get one, be sure to bundle it with something else. You can only buy these kits from their site. Shipping is free if you spend enough. Otherwise you will get fucked hard on shipping. And these don't come with the nes adapter unlike their prebuilt controllers, so be prepared to spend $20 more than you bargained for.

These are great. You can get the new wireless capability without sacrificing the OEM feel of the original controllers. I’ll definitely be picking one up to use with my Retro AV Cart, also an idea I fell in love with from this channel. I’m hoping we see more options. It would definitely be more complex, but the other consoles I can see myself using these for would be N64, GameCube, and PS2. It’d be awesome if they made these for those controllers at some point as well. But considering the level of complexity those controllers have with things like joysticks. I imagine production would take longer and be a bit pricier. I also know we have options for wireless already available that were officially made for those systems. But technology has come so far, and the consistency and reliability of the older types of wireless connection aren’t as good. The few that are very good (Wave bird GC, Logitech PS2, is there an official Nintendo 64 wireless option that’s good?) are a bit rare and expensive. We’ve got new options, I personally bought an admiral for the N64 as it’s a very good and reliable wireless option. But it doesn’t have the original form factor, which many people don’t like about the original N64 anyway, I actually find it to be comfortable and easy to use. Having options like this NES controller for other systems would be incredible as we wouldn’t have to sacrifice the original allure of our old controllers, while still getting a very nice updated functionality

The wireless options for the n64 have gotten pretty good. I would also love to see more options for newer controllers like the ps2. That would be great!

Any idea/how why i'm not able to pair my NES Wireless kit to my retro receiver? Both recently purchased. Do they each need to have firmware updates (controller and receiver)? Also using these on my Retro USB AVS. Thanks!
@z3razerviper

Be sure to update the firmware on the board before you install it into the controller. You cant update firmware via the custom cable.
