Wow i wish i saw this about 12 hours sooner, just ordered and picked up drop spindles, rotors bearings calipers and pads for my regal all original spec
I never knew about this swap. I appreciate the info. Originally I was looking for an inexpensive way to upgrade the back brakes and get rid of the drums...but I can upgrade all 4 with this idea. I'm looking forward to other videos. Thx for the content
The s10 is a 5 lug setup. If you look at the large blazers from the1980's,and 90's they are6 lug. What he has is the S10. It's understandable why you ask though.
Just an FYI the Oldsmobile Bravada of the same year Blazers will work as well, same exact setup. Just in case you can't find the Blazer. G-Body forever!!!
Nice vid!! I would have liked to see how the rear switches as far as after pulling the axle, dropping the drums how the rear blazer caliper bracket mounts up.
Figured id ask you since you work on Buicks ect . we have a 1985 buick estate wagon Hearse with a factory 307 small block . it is missing the timing tab . what will work on the timing cover since all my Google searches have only showed tabs for chevys and oldsmobile and pontiac engines from the 60s and 70s ? havent found any for 80s engines ? also we converted from the hei factory non vaccum adavance computer assist timing to a buick hei with vaccum advance . what does the timing need to be initial and total ? Any help would be appreciated
I wonder if this conversion would work on my 81 Monte Carlo 5.3 LS Swap. Since I have 14x7 reverse wire wheels My concern is clearance I don’t wanna have to shave off calipers since that a big thing in the Lowriders
everything on the front was a Bolton operation and only needed bleeding. 4:19. All you do is get the entire brake assembly off the donor car which is a 2 Wheel Dr. blazerincluding the brake line in the water on to the G body
Do you know if control arms are the same as well? Have a tubbed 78 elco with just 2 bare frame rails in front, previous owner took it all off, need everything. Thank u in advance
82 Monte Carlo 5.3 here, awesome channel. I have a question, what size are those hub bolts, the 3 on each side and where can I find them? Thats all thats left for me to assemble everything
Great video. Really like taking advantage of OEM engineering already done. Can you tell me if this works on a GM A Body (71 Monte Carlo) or if there is a known similar approach for them?
I actually don't know about anything for a 71 monte. I have done a little research and have not found anything that isn't expensive for an a body. If I do I will post it. Thank you for watching the video also. I really appreciate it
Hey man, just wondering if you have any thoughts on suspension wise? I have an 87 cutlass supreme that needs better "street/drag" suspension. Im wanting to do a full restore on it and keep it for as long as I can.
Just found your channel brother!!! 3 G- Body's in my fleet!!! Two 79s and a 86 SS!!! I have 2" Bell Tech drop spindles with 13" Corvette brakes on one of my 79s!!! The other 79 is going 4x4 this Christmas week!!! Be sure to check out the build on my channel!!!! Keep Rocking It Out Brother!!!!
Just go find a 2002 2wd blazer in the junk yard and take the whole set up. Ball joints are the same for those trucks and older g bodies. Geometry is all pretty much the same.
Let’s say I plan to do this but also want to 2” drop spindle my MC, could I order the drop spindle for the blazer & basically go to junkyard and grab everything else I need to do the swap. Grab all 4 besides the to front spindles & use it all the same? Thanks man, new to building.
Could and would this work on my 79 Buick Regal? Every time I watch these videos then comment I get " well maybe you will have to research your vehicle. As you did, I want disc brakes front and rear. this was the best, and most informative video on this subject. Thank you for that.
This should work on that regal. The 79 regal should be a g body which means this should work even on those. As long as it uses the same suspension as the 80s models
I just did some more research on this and truthfully I'm not sure either. Ur car is considered an a body but it's kinda a g body. So what I would do is see if the suspension is set up like other g body's and if it does then this should work on your car
Ty for this tip iv never seen this anywhere. Could use some help i have 87 s10 blazer with a bad portion vale that is no long sold any tip ona fix? Ty again hope to see more tips
I was wondering will this work on a 1995 Tahoe obs can I do this same swap off of a earlier 2000s Chevy truck on to mine?, i know that my suspension on my 95 are similar to the G-bodys,
Hello, you mentioned the rear aswell. I found a blazer(04) fronts are dual piston but the rear is single. Is that the correct setup or should the rear be dual also. I went to 2 junk yards this wkend and looked at 6 blazers(not trailzer) and they were all single piston.
I have a 1983 Cutlass and already have done the front....what all do I need to pull for the rear and what bracket will I need to install the caliper bracket?
I'm not 100% on the rear yet. I think u pull the whole backing plate and all for the rear and u have to cut the factory housing but I'll try to find out more info for you on that.
So for the front breaks what is it exactly that you do with the speed sensor? I didn’t get that, i thought you could just eliminate it. Can you elaborate more about that please..
they are different. 2wd 4 banger S10's do not have a bolt on bearing. Taper roller bearing in the front and rears a drum brakes. 4wd s10s of that year however i believe have disc brakes and front and back. Know for a fact that the front brakes pads are different shapes between the two of them
you can have a 10 piston caliper, vehicle is going to stop the same as single caliper brakes, tire don't care how many pistons caliper's have, traction (tire) is and will be the limiting factor on how quick a car stops, the only thing is going to be noticeable is pedal feel, perception, so it would be akin to kidding yourself, I went to dual piston, but upgraded to larger rotor diameter, car still stops the same, but now brakes take longer to overheat plus it takes less pedal effort, if you don't change tire width or compound you ain't changing much. Think of it this way, same car, same brakes, same tires, one test on dry road, next test on same road but wet....will a 12 piston caliper stop faster on wet road?
What’s good! I’m planning on doing this set up to my 87 Grand National. My question to you is, would i still be able to run my 15inch wheels in the rear, better yet will the calipers give me the proper clearance? Thank you!
@@BOURBONANDBOOST oki, because we have 1 s10 Xtreme and few Sonoma 2wd in the yard where i work (~'95 to '05) and i just dont know if the Spindle/brake kit gonna Works too... or if it's only the Jimmy/blazer 2wd.... I think i can get the dual caliper and the bracket from an 4wd but not the Spindle :/
I don't think the brakes or calipers are the same on the 4wd either. I think they r different. I could be wrong but the 2wd s10 still have the bearings like a factory g body would if I'm correct. If u work in a yard u could check tho. If it has a dual piston caliper with a bolt in hub it might work
@@BOURBONANDBOOST so basically since I’m going to use the power stop brake caliper and drilled and slotted rotors, and new hub. All I need from the blazer is spindle and backing plate.
Yes you can use 15" inch wheels, this has been verified I own two Cutlasses, one 442 and one Supreme with this same setup. I will however note that it will ONLY work with 15" wheels or larger. As some of you may know the Cutlass Hurst and 442 for example came stock 15" wheels whereas the the more base packages (Supreme, Brougham, Calais) came with the 14" wheels. As the gentleman in the video stated the front calipers are literally plug and play but the rear calipers will have to be slightly modified, nothing major or difficult if your running the stock 7.5 or 8.5 rear differential. Their are videos on how this is done. G BODY NATION!!!!!✌🏾
@@HolyCatsGarage I’m running the larger .94” master cylinder with drum brakes on the rear on mine, it’s not great, it would be better with a 1.125” bore master, but I can’t find one that fits
Moog used too and probably still makes offset upper control arm shafts and you can use the old shafts with the ends cut off, so you can get back the correct angles.
