In this video, we build a cheap hearing protection comms setup using Walker Razors, Tactical Ear Gadgets PTT, and a Beofeng UV-5R radio.
NOTE: MAKE SURE YOUR 3.5mm CONNECTOR IS SECURED!! We have had issues with these connectors coming out of the radio and causing issues. Glue or rubber band the plug into the radio if you need to.

Dude! I had no idea you could do this to the walkers! Definitely gonna snag a beofeng radio.I have 3 sets of the walker walkie talkies and they are great for short range, but you add in walls or multiple levels and its pretty spotty. This will be a great upgrade and means Itll work with the Ops arm knock offs im running 10/10 haha Subbed!!

You can also use the Baofeng shoulder mics which have a direct 3,5mm output. They're cheap, but quality is a bit of a hit and miss.

@@peterhaller2797 Common problem on those. Take off the cover from the mic, and check the solder connections where the cable attaches to the mic head. On mine, I had one where the connection was loose and one where two wires were reversed. It's easy to follow which wire goes where with a multimeter, there is no circuitry inside the mic.

Do I understand it correct, that you use the mic on t he Baofeng itself for the communication? If so a simple single push to talk cable should also just work instead of this split one - right!?
@OrdoAirsoft
@OrdoAirsoft Год назад
No, the push to talk button has a mic built in that you can use when you mount it on the front of your plate carrier so you can keep the radio on a pouch/backpack

I had another manufacturers Head set.... When I connected a radio or aux cord it disabled the noise cancelation and made it just muffs with a radio. Does this truly allow both to work?

Yes, with my experience using this setup it amplifies outside noises and you can hear radio transmissions also 👍

I have a baofeng lapel mic with an audio out jack that appears to be a 3.5 mm. But neither of my auxiliary cords work. Any idea of the type of auxiliary cord? If I insert my aux cords half way I get audio on the headset and mic. But if I insert it all the way I get no audio at all. Thanks

We have had good luck using "Kenwood" style connectors. We have found that the beofeng design does not play well with standard 3.5mm headphone cords (it fits but the connections do not connect properly)

@@OrdoAirsoft I figured out that the baofeng lapel mic 3.5 mm output is mono. And found an adapter. Going through reviews on the adapter I found a guy who used it for the exact same reason. I'll know for sure when I receive it and I'll let you know.

@OrdoAirsoft
@OrdoAirsoft 2 года назад
For Beofengs, it's well worth the effort to program them right rather than plugging in numbers by hand. Here's a video on the programming process: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MEpBo5lixsw.html As for the legality of the radios, we can't give legal advice so we would recommend doing research for your area
@Matheison
@Matheison Год назад
@@OrdoAirsoft Depending on the model of Baofeng you're using, you can use them legally provided you have an amateur radio operators license, or a GMRS license. GMRS does not require a knowledge test, is only $35/for 10 years, and it covers all the members of your family.

look into getting a HAM radio license. U might need one to legally use radios in your area
@tgreening

@@AshesWorkshop If you’re in the US and operate on designated ham frequencies, you are required to have a license, no question. Unfortunately many people these days couldn’t care less, will operate unlicensed, and eventually will give the FCC the excuse to commercialize all the frequencies and sell them for business/government use.
@beavisroadhog9629
@beavisroadhog9629 Год назад
@T. Greening the gubmint and businesses already have their own bands. If the FCC cared, I suppose they would do something. Guys using their Baofengs unlicensed is apparently not something this agency is overly concerned with. Unlicensed guys transmitting on amateur bands is not going to "make" the government "do" anything. You seem to view govt/citizens relationship as a cause and effect situation. Newbie, pleez...
