You have to pop the collar in order to get your ear protection.

To activate protection in flannel, roll sleeves up to the three quarter length mark and unbutton down to sternum. Chest hair takes from level 3 pistol to level 4 rifle. Shaving or waxing chest hair nullifies protection of flannel.
