Julie, I bought some Lutradur paper many years ago and found it in my stash but had no idea what to do with it. I LOVE what you’ve created with it. Thank you sooooo much.

Yes, Lutradur is interesting stuff. It has been used in the art quilt world for a long time. It is a 100% Polyester interfacing. Since it is synthetic it can be melted, like with a wood burning tool for interesting effects. Julie mentioned Tyvek which also can be painted and shaped with heat into lumpy interesting shapes with a heat tool similar to a hairdryer except much hotter.

Yes, interfacing used in sewing. Have used it for years in my mixed media. I use it with gel medium. I had a commercial embroidery business and had rolls of the stuff. All different weights. It’s fun!

I love Lutradur. However, I don't understand how the company can get away with describing it as new. I know I started using it at least 15 years ago! I remember it was used for projects in mixed media magazines and books. I think it may have been in Expressions magazine and Somerset Studio years ago. It's fun to work with and does remind me of Tyvek but less solid. Thanks for presenting it because I had forgotten about it because it's been a few years since I've used it or even heard about it. I seem to remember a mixed media artist was well known for using Lutradur. She had written books and wrote for various magazines with her projects typically featuring Lutradur. I want to say say her name was Leslie Riley but I may be totally wrong about that. I also think she may have used it for making some awesome transfers. Anyway, I will need to revisit Lutradur, trying products with it that I didn't have all those years ago.

OK - I have been around for a while too - used old 1940s window shades as canvas and drawing surface- very interesting effect.

Thanks for the intro to Lutradur. Dinese Beckert just used it in a mixed media piece, and I wanted to learn more about it. It gives her background a hazy sensual feel. Very effective!

S-m-o-l-d-e-rrrrr Loved this piece! It turned out totally different than when you first laid the paints and alcohol ink down. Whenever I hear "smolder" I think of the movie Jumanji with The Rock and his smolder look he does. Haha!!!

I was convinced by your video and ordered some. Both my husband and I have played with it, doing a semi-representational scene. My piece was all watercolor and his was finished off with a lot of ink drawing on top. l am still playing and it is fun. It is made by Pellon, which I have used for many years in sewing, but this is quite a bit stiffer. It is a good thing to do during this pandemic....play with a new toy. Thanks Julie.

I heard a fellow artist talking about Lutradure, and thought, “ What the hell is Lutradure.” Not 2 days later I’m planning a trip to Cheap Charlie’s in Asheville from Greenville SC, and low and behold, I found your video on the website. I love what you’ve done with it here! I have used interfacing in mixed media before, and I imagine it’s pretty similar. But, it never occurred to me to bunch it up to create texture, and use watercolor paints on it. Such a creative idea! Thank you for sharing it with us.

This is wonderful ......love your colors! So enjoy your videos! What is the braided gold at the end - is that something you can purchase? If so where could I find that?
@edyerae1000
@edyerae1000 3 года назад
Where are the answers to some of the questions. Is the gold braided a decorative sewing trim? Can this paper work with heAt? Encaustic paints?
@vidavis8060
@vidavis8060 3 года назад
Hey Christine... the gold pieces I made by hand. It is actually a good wire that I braided around a craft stick. Then, I adhered the braided pieces to the surface. But, I have used the same wire to weave directly into watercolor paper before. I love it... it’s tough on the fingers. Thanks for watching and for your question! 😁 Julie

I wonder if this can work like a canvas? Is it strong enough to be fastened to a frame and you do normal painting like on a canvas? Thanks!

Hey Julie, how did you do the sculptural element of this and is there a video on how you did it?
@vidavis8060
@vidavis8060 3 года назад
Hey Loren... the sculptural little pieces were done later after the whole piece was dry and I had some time to think about what it needed. I took wooden craft sticks that I had in my studio for stirring resin and stuff. Then I wrapped the sticks with gold floral wire. It was ferocious on the fingers but I think it turned out well! Thanks for your question and for watching! 😊 Julie

QUESTION: How well does it work when you write on it, with dip pen and ink?
@vidavis8060

Hey June... very probably not great! It is very fiberous and would likely get caught on the fibers. Thanks for your question, and for watching. 😊 Julie

Well, scissors cut it...
@juliedavis8957
@juliedavis8957 3 года назад
Ummm... scissors cut it because it is a micro thin resin sheet that is coated on both sides with a emulsion with calcium carbonate in it. I can say it’s interesting. I know Joe has found an interesting direction with it. There is a video where he and I are discussing his recent work and he talks about that and show pieces using that several times. I think the video is one of the “Conversations Adjacent a Cacti” ones. 😉
