My best friend unfortunately died of cancer recently. I was skimming through RU-vid looking for cooking RU-vidrs to follow. One of your videos popped up. I clicked on it and as soon as you began speaking I saw my friend. You have the same heart and personality and humor that she had. You remind me so much of her. So I obviously clicked the like button and subscribed!! Now when I watch your videos I feel like I have a piece of her with me. Thank you so much!!!
On one of my pick up orders at Walmart I ordered 1 pound of Black Forest ham. When I got home and unloaded my groceries, they had given me the ENTIRE deli ham! It was hilarious! When I called the store to find out what I should do because I had only paid for 1 pound of ham not an entire ham, they said to keep it and enjoy. They’d have to toss it out if it were returned.
I do Walmart delivery every week and my substitutions have always be better than what I ordered! The delivery is a God send because I'm older and my car isn't running. I paid $100. for a year and its worth it. I can order a gallon of milk and nothing else and they deliver it. Plus I send food to my brother in another state once a month.
I appreciate you making the effort to put yourself out there online trying to help people who can't even afford to eat now due to inflation. Going to the grocery store is overwhelming and stressful with trying to eat and feed everyone in your family on a budget. there's some good karma coming your way girl. You deserve it.🙏👏🙏💕
More of this type of videos please. More realistic. Also using what's in the actual pantry. You have the best content of this type. Not too flashy, just normal. 😅🎉🤘
I've gotten some weird substitutions before but my favorite was I ordered a 28oz can of crushed tomatoes and they gave me 6 regular tomatoes. I was like dang... I gotta crush these bad boys myself? 🤣🤣
I like to buy the cheese toast (which also has garlic) instead, as my Walmart charges the same price. Then I save on my cheese usage, too. They make great mini-pizzas.
I’m brand new to your channel and find myself LOVING you and your sweet family. You have the BEST personality and I have so much fun learning your recipes. Thank you for being you and sharing with all of us ❤🙏🥰
So enjoy watching you cook & ad-lib "It'll be fine" - also LOVE watching your kids reactions to the taste testing - especially the little one - so precious!
WM pickup is always a gamble! I've had some weird substitutions... ordered frozen french fries but I got a bag of green beans instead. Guess they thought I needed to eat healthier 🤣
The weirdest substitution I ever got: I ordered tampons and they substituted mushrooms. 🤣🤣🤣 SN: I moonlight as a driver for Spark- Walmart's delivery service. Sometimes, we have to shop the express delivery orders if the OGP associates are behind. These substitutions are usually NOT chosen by the person picking them, but it's what the app algorithm suggests. They could still always NOT pick the suggested item, though. LOL
I'm the same. I have to check each item and make sure the date is good, package not damaged, etc. Plus, I don't want grubby hands all over my produce. My OCD is fierce when it comes to grocery shopping... 😂
I know this isn't funny but when you showed us what they subbed versus what you ordered I spit my iced tea everywhere when I laughed. I don't do Walmart pick-up as often anymore. (No car and don't want to have to depend on my friends to help with the pick-up.) I'm Canadian and I order grocery delivery from one of the major chains in Western Canada. I know my prices and while this particular store doesn't have the lowest overall prices, their delivery charges are definitely the lowest if you pick the biggest delivery window. So I watch for sales and when the prices are close I order things that way. It's not perfect but its definitely cheaper than trying to get to the lowest price grocery store and take a taxi home. AND they bring my groceries directly to my apartment door. The best sub I ever got was when I ordered a box on generic onion soup mix. They subbed 4 individual packages of Knorr onion soup. One envelope of Knorr was almost equivalent in cost the entire box of generic but because there were 4 envelopes in the generic box the gave me 4 of the Knorr.
About the skewer substitution: My guess is that the shopper was looking for "Napkins", not Feminine Napkins. Skewers commonly hang on little racks with the napkins and paper plates. The shopper had to substitute SOMETHING, so they just grabbed the skewers. OMG, hilarious!
Did math on this one. Family of 5 times 3 meals a day (sorta, I know you skip breakfast) that equals 15 meals a day, time 7 days, that's 105 meals. So on a budget of $92 a week divided by 105 meals, that equals 0.87 cents a meal! Amazing job! So, even if you skipped breakfast all week, the same math make each meal $1.30, still incredibly good when you can't buy a regular Egg McMuffin for that, they're $2.79! And, what is that about canned biscuits? Opening them always, POP!, scares the bejabbers outa me, too! Great video, Brooke!
My daughters friend did Walmart pickup and ordered 10 bananas. She got 10 bunches! She gave us half of them. I made so much banana bread. We gave it away and froze it. They said to keep them so she did.
@Brooke You get the trophy for the oddest substitution! I’ve never used the service where a WalMart employee pulls the order but I see them going through the store with their cart full of gray tubs and it seems like they work pretty dang hard… sometimes you can barely get through the grocery section because there are so many of ‘em out in the aisles…
You do realize my dear that you don't have to answer to us as to what you're feeding your children. And how much everything costs or how much you're feeding them. You are their mother and you are not mistreating your children. You make good judgment. You know what they like and what they don't like how much it takes to feel them up. You're doing a great job mom. They all look healthy and happy. So don't worry about what these people out here in this big old giant world. Say you're doing a fantastic job. And I love your programs that you did. You're so entertaining even if you don't mean to be. I just love watching you and I love watching the boys enjoying what mom makes for them to eat. You have some beautiful boys. Don't tell them that though you're supposed to be handsome
A little trick I learned for the Walmart substitutions is I go through ny order and mark no substitution on everything. Amazingly enough, since I started doing that I don’t get substitutions and only ever didn’t get the pasta I ordered a couple of weeks ago. I do that every time now. I was always getting stuck with items that cost more than the ones I ordered, so now I don’t.
Brooke, I also feel like I was born at the wrong time! I LOVE Little House on the Prarie!!!! I've probably watched every episode 1,000 times!! I would love to hang out with Caroline Ingalls and cook for the day!!
Idk if I told you this but I think this is a good BUDGET substitute for a more expensive meal… chicken parmigiana: Get Tyson chicken sandwich paddies (or offbrands even better), spaghetti sauce, spaghetti, provolone slices. So the way I do it (the fastest way)… microwave your chicken patties to cooked, get a shallow casserole dish or something and put a light amt of sp sauce in the dish first, add the patties, cook just for a minute to crisp up the patties if you want or skip this part, after that part take out and top with prov cheese, sauce, then more cheese and put back in oven long enough to melt cheese and warm sauce! And obviously cook your noodle’s during this process. Walah! Chicken parmigiana!!!! 😂
I listen to your videos while I work from home! Your voice totally relaxes me and helps tremendously to feel less stressed. Love love love your content!! ❤❤❤
I love that your store is still doing no extra charge on substitutions. My order on Saturday was the first time I was given a pop up notice that my store will now be charging the price of the substitution.
Enjoy those upgrades while you can. Our Walmart used to do that too, but NOW they upgrade with a more expensive product and charge you the more expensive price. They also tell me right before the pickup time and give me three minutes to refuse the higher priced item. Then of course, you’re either left with nothing or the $5:00 a dozen eggs that they chose for you :(
Mine 2. When u place your order you can specify if you want substituons or not ahead of the order. I just click the box that says no substitions. Thats what I do now because I cant afford the more expensive stuff.
This JUST happened to me! Notification came at 8:03 and I had until 8:07 to approve or decline substitutions! But, they subbed Pillsbury crescent rolls for the GV brand at no extra charge. I'm shocked 😲
As usual my brain is quick ly translating your recipes so that my gf, df, and soy free system can enjoy many of your recipes. I really enjoy watching your kiddos doing taste testing. Love the new color. If ya know ya know. Best line of the video, " soggy hunk of grass in your wrap". It just made me laugh. Be blessed. Keep being kind!
We once found a piece of rubber like a very big piece of rubber in a pizza lunchable. I happened to eat it as a snack and my son ate it for lunch(this was 3 years ago) I called and talked to them. They had us send them the peice of rubber, which they never sent the envelope for like they said they would. But they sent us like $30 in $2 off coupons. They said it would have been a peice of rubber that had fallen off one of the machines during the assembly. We almost gave that specific lunchable to my son. I'm so glad we didn't. 😮💨😬
I find it funny how different people are when they cook. I go through a package of hard salami a week and I go through at least 6-7 bottles of red wine vinegar a year. I add it to roasts and all simmered meat dishes. I also put it on most every sandwich. Loved the haul and the meals!
You are so good at what you do. These videos are amazing, the budgeting, the quick, easy and delicious looking recipes. I love this. Your family is very fortunate to have you.
When I was little, my mother would make a quick treat or dessert by taking the biscuits & dip them 1st into melted butter and then into a bowl with sugar and cinnamon. She would then put them on a greased sheet pan and put them in the oven. Very much like what you have done. They were so-o-o-o good!😋
Just recently subscribed after stumbling onto your channel and I have got to say, I'm loving it!!!! Your family is so sweet and can't wait to see your new videos. God Bless!❤
Even though we are a plant based family I love your videos. I love how creative you get in the kitchen and because you use beans I am able to make many of your recipes minus the meat or cheese. Keep up the great work!
We only have 2 grocery stores in our town in Washington state Walmart & Safeway so Walmart is the cheapest to buy potatoes. &4.26 for 10 pound bag & $2.56 for 5 pound bag. At my Walmart they recently started charging actual price of substitutions now. You are amazing, I enjoy your videos.
You are amazing! I enjoy watching all of your videos and am definitely going to try the monkey bread as a Christmas treat. As a mom who home schooled my three children 30 years ago I remember those busy days squeezing in the library, the grocery shopping and any other "town" chores before returning home to get dinner going. Hope you are having fun with your kids. I sure did
I love your videos! You have such a fun nurturing spirit! When you make shorts to tease the negative remarks it cracks me up. Your facial expressions are hilarious. Remember we love you all and PFFFFFTTT on the haters! I envy your life!!!
I eat my lemon’s 🍋 with salt 🧂 too! 😅 We try to budget our weekly groceries too $100 a week for 4 adult’s and 1 teenager “basically an adult 🙄” lol but I usually make it work since my family and I rather eat home cooked Mexican meal’s but we will buy take out once a week or get ice cream 🍦 or shakes just to treat ourselves 😊
Last week at Aldi with my pick up order they substituted a cucumber for my ordered green onions. The only thing they have in common is that they are green. It's crazy the way these pickers think.
My sister does Wal-Mart pickup. She purchased two large regular sized Busch Baked Beans cans. They substituted both cans for a "Huge" Can of different brand baked beans. When I say "Huge" can, this is the size can that you would purchase for a Wedding Reception meal.
I live in Idaho & shop at winco...which is comparable in price. Every April a local fruit/veg stand opens about a mile from where I live & stays open thru October. Every morning they go thru the produce & create mixed bags that sell for a dollar! Sometimes you get a yam, 2 oranges, celery, 3 peppers and nectarines...it's widely varied, & amazing! We are a heavy fruit & veg fam & my last haul was 6 dollars...the weight was 10 pounds of delicious 😋. I love to save on groceries & you have great ideas! Plus, I agree w the tortilla theory.
I just found your channel last week and I'm enjoying watching you. I love how you make things up as you go...but at least it works out and your family enjoys it. I forget about sheet pan dinners. I'm doing that tomorrow with my chicken thighs.
When you are on the check out page you can pick your substitution for each item or click dont substitute. Last week I ended up with 5 cans of biscuits, 3 party size bags of chips and I didn’t order any of. I also ordered 1 yard of fabric at $5 but they gave me the entire bolt which is 15 yards for $1🤦🏽♀️
Brooke I love when you catch yourself say something wrong. I really enjoy your channel and the meal ideas are fabulous. Thank you for working so hard and sharing with us.😊
I do Walmart delivery all the time and I've never gotten really weird substitutions. I always get an email where I can accept or decline my substitutions so I'm not sure what's going on in your neck of the woods. I am in Nebraska and it goes really well. I've always had good luck too with the produce they've chosen so sorry you got some weird stuff in the past but being disabled I don't know what I would do without grocery delivery! I happen to have been in a grocery store because I went in to get a flu shot otherwise I wouldn't have been in there but they were having to have a few things on special that I wanted so it worked out and I got a 5 lb bag of russet potatoes for 88 cents and 3 lbs of 85/15 ground beef for $2.49 a pound. I would have gotten more but the limit was three. I grilled up some of it this past weekend on man did it make the best burgers on the grill; oh boy was it good! I am lucky that the state of Nebraska does not charge sales tax on food! I think you did a great job getting a wonderful variety of food for your family for $92. I was particularly impressed with the amount of fresh fruits and vegetables that you purchased and I did not see a lot of junk food in the haul. It just goes to show that you can eat healthy on a reasonable budget. I think $100 a week is a pretty reasonable budget for a family of five especially given that you've got three growing boys that will soon all be eating you out of house and home!
Brooke, you are in my top three RU-vid people to watch, but every time I see one of your sweet food reviewers eating with a wooden spoon my eye twitches. 😂
One time with our Walmart delivery gave me my order plus a bag containing 3 pregnancy tests and a bunch of baby food. My husband saw it and asked me if I had something to tell him. I told him NO but maybe Walmart knows something I don't. I knew I was NOT pregnant (fyi)
I am 54 years old and have never even eaten Monkey bread (what is wrong with me??!!) It looks so yummy I'm afraid I would eat it all🤣And those garlic bread pizzas are soooo good! I eat those for dinner with a little side salad sometimes when my husband is working out of town. Quick, easy, and delicious! This video was great!
Love your content, Im from the UK and think you and your family are wonderful A heads up to all of your lovely subscribers and others that like watching budget videos, there seems to be an awful lot of phishing/scam comments popping up about investing, all from 'people' that have subscribed the same time, protect yourselves and be vigilant guys, please report if you see these in the threads Much love to you all
I loved your monkey bread method! I learned my recipe from Taste of Home Magazine when they used to do their home shows. Mine is similar (we use Rhodes frozen rolls), but I also cut up a block of cream cheese into 16 pieces, roll in the cinnamon sugar mix, and then seal inside the roll before rolling in the cinnamon sugar mix again. I haven't made it in a long time, but now I want to!
Listening in while I go to work. I've not done a walmart pick up yet. I'm afraid of what they'll substitute on my list, lol! When I need an item, I don't want some random crap, lol.
I have never tried online ordering, but that is hilarious what they substitute. Skewers? Really? I wonder how the mindset worked on that one. You are the queen of budget shopping. I spent just $83 yesterday, but a large part of our budget goes to things like toilet paper, dish soap, dog food, comet, and Nexium. Oh, and a $6 beanie/hat because it is supposed to be snowing tomorrow and my husband works outside. Once I take all that off my ticket, my actual food bill was only $18. I really want to try online ordering, but I have control issues and it's hard to trust someone else to shop for me. Though, it seems to be a benefit when they sub from what I've seen. Unless it's skewers, lol. I still really wish I could be inside the brain that worked that one out. Maybe they just closed their eyes and grabbed randomly, and that was the winner. Anyway, that is still so funny.
Good job this is $18.5/ person ! Awesome ! And yes, I recognize that not all of it is for one week :) I am a #'s geek so I always figure out the $ amounts spent. Your sandwich reminds me of Subway 😋 yummm
years ago I bought hamburger and it was packed on a pink strophome tray well mine wouldnt brown up all the way cause they were tray chunks in it.... I took it back and found out some one had bought lots for an out side pot of chilie I always wonder how things get in there! glad you told them
Looking after our family’s well being and health is a supremely important duty, seeing that they eat in a healthy and balanced way, while trying to save money takes a bit of effort, but if our kids learn to eat healthy and learn to be wise with money, then we are doing a good job as mothers. Recently one of our kids has resumed her college education, after taking a few years off, and I was so proud of her that she had saved up about three months worth of rent and bill money so that she can just concentrate on resuming her education for a few weeks between jobs and she doesn’t need to be worried about how she’s going to pay for everything. I always tell my kids that an education is a wise investment in yourself for your future, but it’s only a wise investment if you get a degree in a career field that is useful, so no bachelor’s degree in basket weaving or watching paint dry! 😂
I wanted let people know that if they have a Lidl store near them they may want to check it out. They have turkeys at $0.49 a lb if you are a member ( membership is free btw) and spend $25 on items before you get a turkey. They are a little like Aldi. Also their ground beef is on sale for $2.99 a lb right now and a 10lb bag of russet potatoes is only $3.49. They have a pretty good sale this week.
The monkey bread looks amazing! Can’t wait to make it the same exact way you did. It looks so easy! Love your channel and your family is awesome! Thank you for sharing all the recipes!❤️❤️
🤣🤣 I don't do Walmart, but as a former instacart shopper, the apps could recommend the craziest items as substitutions, and the quality of the shopper determines whether they think for themselves or do what the app tells them. I thought you were going to say you got napkins for the kitchen though!
We have two Walmarts in our town. I only get pickup at one of them. At one, they either won't do subsitutions or get them wrong or just want to substitute and upcharge for the name brand. At the other one, I've had them substitute three packages of the name brand for the generic cookies, two pounds for one pound on the lunch meat, etc. So if you're disappointed by a pickup and you have another Walmart in your area, try there. Locations seem to make their own rules.
The big sandwich you made with the salad is what we call in NY an Italian sub. Any kind of pot luck type occasion here has one, or it’s not official lol We don’t toast them though. For the shredded lettuce and onion we use either just oil and vinegar or Italian dressing. It looks like you made a creamy Italian dressing. We also use roasted red bell peppers instead of banana.
Loved the video as always and that blue plastic in the hamburger would have scared me too I am blessed to live in a place that has a lot of Amish and Mennonite farmers so I can get my meat directly from them at a good price
I swear I could watch you all day!!!! You ARE very inspiring!!! I would never of thought up some oh the recipes on my own...my cabinets look like yours 😂 I just don't know how to get out of my comfort zone when it comes to putting stuff together....thank you so much and keep cooking Brooke.. love your inspiration
About 7 yrs ago I had a lot of chicken Roman noodles given to me. Just wanted to do something different with then. But wasn't really sure, so did a Google search and came across recipes that prisoners came up with. So l tried one of the recipes it was a corn soup using the Roman. It was yummy. It was quick to make and didn't require a lot of ingredients. As you know they don't have a lot of money.
I never get tired of the variety of meals you create! The opened cans of sauces were opened prior to your putting them together. That must have taken planning or maybe someone was there to be your helper. Good job as always! The Grinder sandwich resembles the Big hero sandwich which can be 12 feet long for a birthday party.
