We needed to get a power generator and couldn't find any reviews on one of the cheapest models we could find - the XTM 2000 watt Inverter Generator , so decided to do an honest review of our first time using it for other people to refer to!
Feel free to check out my other videos for recipes, budgeting tips, DIY projects, restorations and work we do on our lifestyle block in New Zealand such as beekeeping and chickens etc.

THANK YOU VERY NICELY PRESENTED, JUST WENT OUT AND PURCHASED ONE, THE ONLY THING THAT I WOULD RECOMMEND. WHEN YOU START YOUR GENERATOR UP LET IT RUN FOR A FEW MINUTES BEFORE HITTING THE RUN SWITCH. IT WILL GIVE THE GENERATOR TIME TO WORK OUT WHAT IT WILL BE RUNNING

I have owned a Westinghouse E2000 generator for 8 years with no problems. Here in Florida power goes out often. This little unit is quiet and easy to pickup.

Good to know! This one certainly was noisy - but not so bad as long as it's outside and we're inside, which would be it's only function for us - fingers crossed it works for what we need it for!

Yeah one of those things we're hoping never to need, but would have been glad of it when we were three days without power recently lol!

You would only need to use it 3 or 4 hours per day to keep the freezer frozen anyway, and could charge laptops and phones at the same time. No good for the freezer, but in my last power cut, we charged our devices from our car's jumpstarter, as it has usb and 12 volt ports. Good for charging LED rechargeable torches too. Thanks for the review - it was really helpful, even just in general, since ive never used a generator before. 🙂

Yeah we've got two freezers so would just give them a few hours each per day or similar ... one of those things we're hoping we'll never need lol!

if u drop the plug .....could you not use a magnet?... a useful piece of kit for those hard to reach items that fall into those hard to reach spots..cheers for yr comments

Definitely good thinking lol ... we do have magnets for just that kind of purpose and it would have worked but in this instance it was kind of stuck in between things hence we had to disassemble it 👍

Got one on Tuesday, for the Tropical Cylcone off the Queensland Coast. After preparing as per the guide and following instructions on connecting equipment one of the AC Outlets are dead on arrival. Hooked it up to the Multi-Meter and it's producing 80VAC instead of the 220-240VAC requires. At least one outlet works - So, hopefully it doesn't die during this Cyclone. Read the Warranty information on the box, not able to return directly to Supercheap Auto but has to be to a repair agent for repair or replacement with a refurbished unit - So, not even an option to get a refund.

Oh that's interesting - wonder if the law is different in NZ compared to Australia, I'm pretty sure here they have to give you a refund especially if you've only just bought it, but good to have the heads-up here for people!

My friend died five years ago today, my sons dad. He wasn’t mechanical so it was me. Still me, not just when hubby is not available to do the man stuff.

Hey thanks so much, and yeah we've both had some "close calls" so don't take each other for granted, always good to have the both of us knowing skills so totally agree with you on that - thanks for the comment 😊

Thanks for your tutorial but have a question. Do I need to put oil in the spark plug socket prior to use or is it only for storage? Looking forward to your response thanks.
@CheaperWaysNZ
@CheaperWaysNZ 7 месяцев назад
No it's only for storage, so the piston doesn't seize up 👍
@Blakerobby18

Just give it a run every 6 months then no mucking around with long term storage stuff

You get what you pay for and what comes along with that especially in New Zealand. You got your wife to pull it after it had already been running, which to me does not seem like a true test at all. It sounded noisy for such a small unit.?? Does the unit have any USB Ports.??
@CheaperWaysNZ
@CheaperWaysNZ 9 месяцев назад
Yeah should have let it cool down for a few hours before I tried pulling it just to see, but it was very easy to pull on - suspect you'd just have to pull the lever a few more times from cold than just once which is fine for me (as I say I'm well used to starting the line trimmer which is much harder). This model doesn't have any USB Ports, but that's fine with us and should work well enough for the odd time we might need it (which will possibly be once every couple of years) ... definitely noisy so wouldn't be suited to taking camping etc! Be fine though from outisde for us - as I say to just use to keep the fridge & freezer going from the outside as an interim measure so we don't lose food. Thanks for the feedback!
