Welcome!
I’m finishing up a few chores on the property. Today I’ll be putting up deer fencing around several fruit trees that we purchased this year as well as a few we planted last year. The deer have taken great liberties with the trees from last year, nibbling away at the growing shoots which can easily interfere with the future harvest, so now is the time to protect those trees as well as the new ones. Nothing fancy, just 6’ metal stakes and fishing line. The supplies were relatively inexpensive and will be simple to install.
This method will be our first experience with deer fencing, and hopefully it will hold and prove effective. We’ll keep you updated. If you have any personal experience with deer fencing or fruit trees, let us know in the comments.
Thanks for watching!
As always, take care & God bless.

Thanks for sharing. I'm giving it a try with 8' wooden posts. How did it work for you?

I just read the comments below and see it was somewhat successful, but you were going to try "deer fencing". What product did you try and how did it work? How tall? I was hoping 6' wire fence would work since the trees are on a hill and I'm hoping that would be high enough to discourage them. 8' is recommended but that's really high, requires longer posts and more work and money. I have an 8' deer fence around my property but trees keep falling and knocking it down so trying to just protect the fruit trees.

It did not work for me as I am not at the property frequently enough to replace the fishing sting if broken. Will do full fencing next time.

We have been trying to protect 20 arborvitaes that the deer feast on every winter. We started out with an electric fence, in the winter the snow and ice pulled down on the tape and we were wondering the integrity of the fence with all the snow and ice build up on it. We then moved on to fishing line. As the previous reviewer stated the deer barged through the fishing line and feasted all winter long. This year we put up a 4 foot green wire fence (which is invisible in front of the bushes) with fishing line covering an 18" opening at the bottom. The reason for the opening in the bottom is because of the snow drifts that turn to ice that tend to destroy the bottom section of anything we install. I will monitor that after a snowstorm This is our last attempt. If this doesn't work , have had it.

I would agree, the fishing line was a waste of time. Had to try it for my self to see it. I am looking for "deer fencing" to wrap around the stacks I have surrounding the trees.

@@thehandyoutdoorsman9014 so the fishing line did NOT work?

@@kathycoates4171 For me no. The reason is I am not at the property frequently enough to monitor when the line breaks to replace it.

Hi - I tried this last year after spending a fortune on new plants. It worked really well initially and then the deer got wise and just walked thru the fishing line. My neighbor took a picture of 8 deer munching away on my new plants. I am now going to electrify them and use solar to produce the electricity. I hear they love peanut butter so I'm going to put some on the wire. I hate to be harsh but.....

LOL would love to see you post a video of that, I chuckle every time I read your post. So far they were only able to get to one tree as I did not put the fishing line tight enough. All the others are doing just fine. But maybe it will just be a matter of time? Thanks for watching and commenting.

Cheryl-I love the peanut butter on an electric fence! It reminds me of a strategy to get rid of squirrels eating fruit from the trees: put alka selzter in peanut butter in a tin foil cup on the tree, and when the squirrels eat them, the blow up and don't come back! I II was thinking of putting up an electric wire. What product did you use and how did it work?

Stumble across this video in search of deer invasion; any updates after 2 years? How many pounds of fishing line used?

it didn't. If I was there more to check on it, it may have worked, but because there are several months in between visiting they walked through it. To do over again, I would put of regular fencing.

Did this fence work for you. Jon
@thehandyoutdoorsman9014
@thehandyoutdoorsman9014 3 года назад
yes and no. It worked on the trees where I put the fence out 5 feet or more, on the ones that were less the deer were able to reach through and nip the ends off.

Simple.... buy yourself a 22 long rifle ( 200 dollars) ..... buy subsonic bullets : not easy to hear from a distance : ... ( shorts work too ). Work with the rifle ( with a scope )to make sure its accurate. Subsonics are the most accurate in almost all 22 rifles. Shoot " not to kill " They wont come back ! Good out to 150 yards and if accurate good out to at least 200 yards ! Deer do have cell phones !!!!!!! 100% effective !

Can a hundred pound woman use that post driver efficiently?

Yep, once you have the driver on top of the post, gravity does the work. Might take a bit longer but it will work for you.
